✿︎ - Summary
You give your childhood friend (and current crush) some help with his soup, and he just so happens to have been planning his confession.

"KINGDOM OF BLACKROCK - JUNE OF 2010"

Blackrock was noisy and bustling, as it always was around this time of year. With the heavy ice and snow, the kingdom was perfect for when you wanted snow in summer. Children ran around making snow angels, and pushing small snowballs into bigger boulders, which would inevitably be used to build a snowman, or something of the sort; Adults talked, sipping their various warmed beverages, tea, hot cocoa, or coffee. The kingdom was truly a lovely place for the winter season, though despite that, you weren't the biggest fan of it.

Yes, you, one of Blackrock's highly regarded knights, were displeased. Why? Well, it was just too cold! Even with the ridiculous amount of layers you had to wear under your heavy armor, the frost still bit at your skin like an animal. Your nose was constantly stuffy or runny, and your king was a bit busy, going on about some "voices." Maybe he had finally lost it, though questioning his authority on such a level could mean banishment. He had already made an example out of the knight that you used to occasionally guard the armory with. Though there may seem to be plenty of bad, there was plenty of good as well.. Being a knight meant that you got to spend more time with them. Kitchen Wizard had been your friend for a while, multiple years, actually. You two were practically inseparable. Trust me, people had tried. Since Kitchen Wizard was the kingdom's only chef, they had a lot on their plate (literally), but you always supported them through it, as did they. Sometimes you felt this warm fuzzy feeling in your chest- but that's normal for good friends! At least you think!

Today, it was another cold, snowy day, as usual. It was June, snow in summer. You stood guard at your post, which today was set in the courtyard to help protect the citizens, as well as the King from any intruders. The large clock on one of the towers struck 2:00, and another servant ran the large bell hung above it. Finally, a break. You did your ceremonial trade-off and decided to head inside to warm yourself (not that the palace was much better, with the King being in possession of the Icedagger).

You felt a hunger in your stomach, an unsatisfied pit that needed sustenance. So, what better spot to go than the kingdom's food court, to visit a special friend of yours? You slid up the visor on your helmet and pulled it off, holding it under your arm, like a sports ball, as you made your way into the large hallway. You still felt the numbness in your nose and fingertips. The food court had long tables lined with hangry guards and lower class knights waiting for their food to be done. You didn't really care. You're not here to socialize with your fellow knights. You're here for your friend!

You gently pushed open the door to the kitchen with a soft knock. The sight you saw was... truthfully, exactly what you'd expected. Chaos. Kitchen Wizard was frantically rushing from stove to fridge to pantry, collecting and pouring things into a cauldron, as well as occasionally handing something off to the assistant they had hired off RENTANASSISTANT (TM).. which you were shocked actually worked for once.

"Hurry up, would you? We need to finish this in the next ten minutes, else I'm docking your review by ANOTHER star!!" They spoke sternly as they stirred something with a soup-like consistency in their cauldron. They turned to grab some bottle off a shelf when they noticed you, nearly yelling to get out before realizing who it was. You hung your helmet up on the coat rack (which Kitchen Wizard had brought in himself, just to prevent guests from getting their dirty coats in the food. Who could blame him? Nobody likes finding a hair in their food!)

"Oh, Y/N, I truly require your assistance!! Could you retrieve the paprika from the pantry? Ah- better question; Are the guards in the other room rioting yet?" He rushed over, pushing you to the pantry while he waited for a response. They.. didn't seem to be rioting quite yet.

"Rioting? Uh.. no, not yet. They looked more impatient than "rioty." You spoke as you slowly grabbed the spice with your cold, armored hands, handing it off to the chef. They quickly took it, dusting some into the cauldron.

"Oh, well, that's relieving to hear.. The imbeciles are always impatient for food.. Do they have ANY appreciation for the time and effort that I put into making sure that their meal is delightful?! Cause its rather obvious they don't!" Before you could fully process the wizard's words-- there was a ladel to your lips, tilted to give you a sip of Kitchen Wizard's food. It was good. You could taste every single spice used, and the way they came together made you momentarily forget about the chills in your hands. That, and the warmth of the food. It was nice. But...

"Tell me, how is it? Amazing? Delicious? Exquisi--"

"..could use a tiny bit of salt.. not much, but a bit.." Your statement made the chef pause, looking rather surprised.

"Salt? I added salt - the exact amount the recipe calls for..?"

"...salt.." You mumbled, still savoring the taste in your mouth. The adjectives he had mentioned weren't wrong. The soup was incredible. It just needed the slightest bit of salt to even everything else out.

"SALT? Are you sure?" They scooped some soup out of the cauldron with the ladel, sipping out of it carefully.. exactly where your lips had been. It made your cheeks heat up in the slightest. Did that.. count as an indirect kiss?? Wait-- why are you thinking about this!? Kitchen Wizard is a friend, nothing more, nothing less. "..mh.." They licked their lips, processing the taste for a few moments. "..Perhaps a dash of salt is necessary.. thank you." They spoke softly, going over to the counter and grabbing a small saltshaker and tapping it lightly, a few of the salt grains falling into the soup. When they had turned away from you, you SWORE that you had seen a deep blue coating his cheeks, like a blush.

Meanwhile, you sat down next to the fire under the cauldron, letting it heat your cold hands and frosty nose. Your armor clanked against the ground, the metal just another reminder of the duties you would need to return to soon. Your gaze occasionally befell the Kitchen Wizard. The fire and the large skylight above projected rays of orange and a few soft whites, considering the skylight was drowning in snow at the moment. The soft glow against his face made your heart race more than it should've. 'Just a friend,' you internally told yourself. 'Just a friend, nothing more.' The words left a bitter taste on your tongue, despite not even having said them. They made your chest ache for some odd reason. You didn't like the way it felt.

"Y/N? Taste it now, I believe it's much better! Perhaps my best dish-- nono, i've definitely made better than a simple soup.." Kitchen Wizard mumbled to themself, as the ladel was pressed against your mouth again. This.. isn't very sanitary... it's fine! You took some of the soup in your mouth, and it was definitely better. It didn't taste like the mandatory lunch. It tasted like something that would come out of a 5 star restaurant.

"It's amazing.." You nodded as you tried to hold the taste in your mouth. If a slice of heaven was real, it was this.... or was it him..?

"Amazing? Is that all?" They raised an eyebrow, their large wizard hat casting a slight shadow over their face.

"... And I want more.." Your response made him roll his eyes, but he didn't refuse your request, pouring some soup into a bowl. Along with that, some crackers.

"Special treatment? I get dinner before everyone else?" You teased him, earning a groan and him muttering something about a "friend benefit."

After he served you, he ordered that dumb assistant to go and serve the rest of the knights the soup, leaving you and him alone in the kitchen.

He was writing in his cookbook, likely editing the recipe to add more salt. He looked.. cute when he was so focused. You blushed, quickly booting the thought from your mind by indulging in another spoonful of the soup.

DING!

What was that? Kitchen Wizard jumped, looking over to the oven. "Oh! Uhm- Y/n, may I have a moment? Just.. uh.. erm.. Sit in the food court for a bit! It will only take a few minutes!"

You tilted your head. What could he have been cooking?? Eh.. best to listen before he yells at you and burns whatever he's making. So, you slipped out of the kitchen and sat down in a seat nearby. The gluttony of your fellow knights and guards disgusted you.. but you couldn't do anything about it. And it's not like you were any better than they were. You were practically almost done, and it had only been around 5 minutes since you got your hands on the dish. It was just too good!

After about 20 whole minutes of waiting in the now nearly empty food court, you saw Kitchen Wizard peek their head out the door and make a beckoning motion. His face was a soft blue again, and he had some icing smeared on his cheek, which made you stifle a small laugh as you followed him back into the kitchen.

"You've got something on your face." You spoke with a soft laugh while they only tilted their head.

"On my face?" He wiped at his face, seeing the icing now on his hand. "Ah." He wiped the rest off.

It was darker in the kitchen now, likely due to the fire now being out, the cauldron. His spell book was open, though the writing was hard to decipher, like an ancient code. Definitely their handwriting. Kitchen Wizard nervously fumbled with something before handing it over to you. An envelope. Huh.. That's odd. You opened it.. and came face to face with chickenscratch. You look over to him with a raised eyebrow whilst he washed the icing from his hands at the sink.

"..uh.. I can't read it -" He gasped, almost offended. Actually, he was a bit offended.

"Can't read it?! It's in English, is it not?" They dried their hands and crossed their arms, looking at you with annoyance. Despite that, that soft blue flush remained on his face. "..Oh-- just give it here!" Before you could even protest, Kitchen Wizard had snatched the paper from your hands, leaving you with the empty envelope.

"AHEM.. Y/n.. You've always been here with and for me, even through hardship and issues. I.. I truly can't thank you enough for that. Even though you CAN be.. annoying sometimes.. you're special to me. I truly don't think I'd be where I am today if you weren't here to help me.. And I think that goes for the both of us. I love being here-- being able to help you through any struggles you might have.."

.. you get the feeling you know where this is going. Your heart felt like it was about to break one of your ribs with the speed it was beating. You were frozen in place (pun intended. haha. get it cause.. cause the Icedagger and stuff.. LAUGH.)

"..I guess what I'm trying to say is that.. I love you. A lot. A-And I completely get it if you want to just stay friends -"

Your feet moved before you could stop them, the envelope left on the counter as your hands grabbed ahold of the front of his cloak, dragging the poor chef into your embrace.

"...I love you too.. a lot, actually.." You chuckled, and Kitchen Wizard grinned, the blue blush on his cheeks growing as he tightened the enbrace a bit. He was smitten with you..

"WELL! That's..! That's good to hear! Cause now I know that I won't have to eat this myself!" Wait, what? Oh!! It was a(n) [your favorite dessert], as well as some cupcakes. (If your favorite was already cupcakes, then I guess you get a bunch of cupcakes.)

The cupcakes were neatly decorated with your favorite color(s), of course. One of them even had a heart on it. Hell-- they were your favorite flavor(s)!! He knew you too well.

"The cupcakes came out while you were eating, and I didn't want you to see them before they were decorated, and.. I just wanted them to be my most perfect dessert yet!! You... you deserve perfection.. And UNDECORATED CUPCAKES of all things will NOT be my best dish, no no no! No way in my right mind!"

The way he rambled on and on made you smile. He was so sweet. You took a bite of the [your favorite dessert], and the taste was.. well.. everything you expected, and yet somehow more. It was perfection on a plate. And he had been watching you eat like an excited puppy, eyes glittering, a soft smile on his face.

"How is it? I don't make such desserts as often as I'd like, but I do hope this is more than satisfactor--" You couldn't help yourself anymore. You pulled Kitchen Wizard close again, but this time, you kissed him, pressing your lips against his. It felt amazing. His lips were soft - well cared for. No cracks or dyrness. Just smooth and soft perfection.

"It's perfect." You muttered into their lips, opening your eyes slightly to see the poor wizard turn bluer than you'd ever seen them. They practically looked about ready to faint. They pulled away and cupped your cheek, struggling to look your way with those eyes of adoration. Oh, Telamon, they were head over heels.

"I-I.. you..! W-why-- O-Of course it's perfect!! W-Why wouldn't it be!?"
He was a mess.

but he was your mess.

You sat with him, and ate the remainder of the dessert, leaving the cupcakes for later, then you both went to his room (since the knights are forced to share bedrooms to save space, and you wouldn't have any privacy in there!).

"So.. we are going to... cuddle?" He looked at you curiously, a soft blush on his face.

"uhhh.. yeah!" You nodded before flopping over onto his bed.

"Woah-- darling dearest, you can't sleep in that.." He prodded a finger at the armor still slung onto your body.

"..I'm tired.. I just wanna lay with you." You lazily grabbed his hand, which had been pressed against the metal, and pressed it to your cheek, nuzzling into it. His hand was soft, yet had a few small callouses from the way he constantly held his cooking utilary, but you didn't mind. It made him more unique. More perfect in your eyes.

Whilest you nuzzled one of his hands, he used his magic to levitate your helmet, setting it on the small desk. You had forgotten to grab it when you left the kitchen, so he carried it for you. "You'll get me, or yourself hurt if you sleep in that, Y/n. Trust me, I've seen it happen to other lazy soldiers." They pinched your cheek lightly, rolling their eyes.

"..Fine.." You grumbled, standing up and unbuckling parts of your armor, setting them into a pile in the corner. "Ugh.. can't.. reach.."

"Need some help there?" He walked over, unbuckling the single buckle on the center of your back, releasing the final piece of armor. "There. Much better."

You were in one of your layers, black thermal shirt, and some black, skin-tight, yet breathable pants. You kicked off the metal boots shackled to your feet, each letting out a metalic "thump" and "clank." And with that, you dropped into a very startled Kitchen Wizard's arms. "ah?-- warn me next time you're going to do that! I could have not caught you, and then where would you be, hm?.. The floor.. possibly hurt!"

You sighed. He was such a worry wart. Kitchen Wizard led you to the bed and laid you down. "Cmere.." You mumbled, doing grabby hands towards the other. He simply laughed. "Patience, my clove.." He's already got a petname for you? How long has he been preparing for this?!

He untied the yellow ribbon bow that had been keeping his cape on and hung it up on a rack with some other capes. Does he... have a special cape for every event..? Thats besides the point. He was left in his under shirt and a pair of pants: a dark blue shirt with some math problem on it, and some matching dark blue ruffled pants. That math problem was always changing for some reason whenever you looked away.. how does it happen?!

They situated themself next to you, cupping your cheek with one hand, while the other loosely draped across your waist. "... You're so beautiful/handsome/stunning, you know that? You're like a feast - they'res just so much of you for me to take in and appreciate.." A soft blush pressed across his face as he spoke.

"..Youre too much.. truly." You prodded at his chest with your finger.

"Nothing is ever too much if it makes you smile, my clove.." He yawned. "...I do suppose it's nearing evening.. we'd best get to bed.. we both have busy schedules tomorrow, yes..?"

You grumbled at the reminder. It was always busy being a knight. Defending the king as his army, in the middle of a blazing snowstorm, was never nice. And Kitchen Wizard had to cook for the rest of the king's court and subjects all day. How tiring. You nodded.

"..Heh..alright then." He paused. "...I love you, y/n.. i'm so glad I finally get to say it to your face." His smile grew before he lightly pressed a kiss to the corner of your mouth, holding you close to his chest afterward as you began to shut your eyes.

"... Good night, my clove.."

Chapter 3: [BT] Player Headcannons

Chapter Text

💭 - Headcannon Page

- Player has vertigo, which is the main reason they woke up in 2010-- They fainted when they entered the portal due to all the spinny swirly stuff

- ^ Despite this, they do still love carnival rides, even if they get very sick 9/10 times

- Player is too poor to afford a real house, so they sleep in any hotel that offers a room for free.

- ^ They get back pains due to sleeping on the cheap, stiff matresses.

- ^^ They would sleep like a baby on a DECENT bed

- ^ They usually toss and turn at night, usually getting a rare maximum of 5 hours.

- After Demo 3, they lost their ability to draw. They have the talent and ability, but no longer have the creativity. Anything they draw is souless.

- ^ They can barely hold a pencil anyways, due to their hands being messed up from contantly weilding a sword, as well as the effects from the SFOTH swords (mainly the Icedagger)

- ^ They had planned to work in the art industry, but they don't have the motivation to even attempt at getting their hands back into their old shape just to draw again.

- After Demo 4, they wound up needing to wear more layers while in Bizville and blackrock, due to need to adjust to the temperature again.

- After Demo 4, they also wound up with MANY burns from the lava and fire, as well as a few small sunburns in spots they couldn't reach with the sunscreen.

- They've never broken any bones! (shockingly)

- They view Terry as a "mean older brother" figure

- They view Cruel King as a parental figure
(I am fine with doing ship stuff with them, id just change their relationship!)

- They view Shedletsky as a boss/parent figure, though their relationship is NOT as good as Player thinks it is.

- ^ Shedletsky cares about them, but he still forces them to go get those swords, not giving them any say in it. Player never got any choice in the matter.

- They're a SEVERE people pleaser. They would hop into lava if it made a majority happy.

- After Demo 3, they have no sense of self preservation

- They've lost sight of any other dreams thry may have had, only focused on retrieving the SFOTH swords.

- After Demo 3, they never frown or look upset. It's either a blank expression, or positivity.

- They can NOT cook to save their life.

- They have bad eyes. The bottles in the kitchen WERE labeled, they straight up just couldn't see it.

- ^ They need glasses really badly, but they think it would be difficult to fight with glasses on, and they don't like the idea of contacts.

- They will occasionally give Kyoko trinkets they make/find as a "thank you" for her being there for them. Kyoko says they don't need to, but they insist.

- ^ These trinkets used to be little crafts Player would make, but as they lose their ability to make art, it's shifted to just cool stuff they find in shops.

- They do infact think Griefer's plant elements are very cool.

- Their hands are really calloused from how they hold their sword

- During Demo 4, they were having an anxiety attack during Fear's battle, which made it really difficult for them to fight. They relied heavily on call cards.

- During the battle with Hatred, they struggled a lot, not because of Hatred's strength, but because their heart was racing so fast during it, Player thought it would kill them before Hatred did.

- Any call cards that Player used in the Dream World were fake, as they weren't able to get anyone into their head, and Hatred took.. "pity." They didn't know this, and attempted to talk about it with someone they used the call card for.

- Player is a puppet made by Telamon, to hold the SFOTH swords. Anyone who holds a SFOTH sword starts hearing voices almost INSTANTLY, but Player doesn't seem to hear it. They only time I could think of that could be them hearing it is during Greed's area in the Dream World.

- They have little wings on their head, similar to how Telamon is usually depicted. They're under their hat!

- ^ They HAD small wings on their back, but they got removed by Telamon, leaving two scars on their back.

- More to be added later (maybe)

Chapter 4: [FSK] Chance x/+ Taph

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

🐇 - Fluff

🔮 - Rarepair

❓ - What Are We?

🫧 - Short

✿︎ - Note
This is based off of an interaction i had with a Taph as a Chance player, just the roles are swapped to make it.. make sense. I mainly wrote this as a quick writing exercise! I also got to learn a bit about how flintlock pistols work, so that's cool!

In this, Taph uses any pronouns (mostly they/them. Chance uses He/They. Chance usually refers to Taph with masculine terms, but they do use gender neutral and feminine terms as well!! AVIAN TAPH MENTION!

"BUILDER BROTHERS' PIZZA - [DATE UNKNOWN]"

The moon was casting a soft glow on the map, allowing the survivors to make their way around and locate generators. The quiet crackle of flames scattered about broke the otherwise silent atmosphere - save for the occasional scream for help as someone got mauled by a killer.

[KILLER : SLASHER]

Taph was leaned over, roughly pressing one end of a tripwire into the dirt before scooting to the other side of the road and planting the other. And hell, they even threw down a tripmine, just in case. She looked from side to side, making sure the killer wasn't around before leaning over the generator, hastily begining to connect wires. They were in a deep focus.. not even noticing their tripmine going off and their tripwire being cut in half.

SLASH

OUCH. Taph jumped, booking it down the road as Slasher chased. This was bad. Taph's wings flapped frantically as they ran. Maybe they could fly? Probably not, but they were quite literally in a fight or flight mode.

They were losing stamina, and fast. They needed to find a way to get this guy off his back-- SENTRY!

The turret was sat in the distance, with Noob working on a generator right next to it. He grimaced. It would have to do. Taph led Slasher to the sentry, making the large gun start blasting.. whatever Builderman had loaded into it. While the killer was momentarily distracted, they threw another tripmine at him and ran. They would have to apologise to Noob later for leading Slasher over to her.

They limped to a wall, sliding down it and sitting down, looking at one of their wounds - a large gash in their shoulder. It.. definitely wasn't pleasant.

BLING!

[INCORRECT BUZZER SOUND]

Huh? Taph's head raised as they heard the sound. It was.. all too familiar.

Chance. The gambler. They rounded the corne and were met with the sorry sight of the demolitionist on the ground, at roughly 20 hp. That's not good.

"Woah, aye there, buddy. Run in with the killer, huh?" Chance asked, though it was less like a question, more a statement. While they spoke, they halfcocked their flintlock pistol's hammer, poured.. way too much gunpowder into the barrel.

Taph simply nodded, signing "👆🙏🩹" ("I need some bandages"). This made Chance beam.

"Well, pretty boy, you're in luck!" He spoke confidently, taking out a medkit and tossing it to them. The words made Taph tilt their head. Pretty? Them? How would Chance know? The gambler had never seen her face!

"🫵💭👆🎀❓" ("You think i'm pretty?") Taph signed after opening up the medkit. It didn't have the best supplies, but it would work. They grabbed some disinfectant and poured it on the wound, focusing on Chance's response to distract himself.

"Well, obviously. Who doesn't find mystery beautiful? Well-- I have seen your face occasionally, so it's not a really a mystery."

Taph flinched. They've.. seen their face? Chance picked up on how they froze up, realized how what they said had sounded, and quickly backtracked.

"I MEAN-- I haven't been STALKING you or something-- just!.. I see you sometimes take the mask down to eat in that corner of yours, or the hood down when Shed is helping you comb that unruly hair you've got under there.. And truly, I have reason to believe you were blessed by Lady Luck herself!~" He inforced his point by crouching in front of them and booping where her nose was under her mask. "Just accept the compliment!"

Taph's face felt warm under their mask, and they simply pulled their hood further over their head, hiding himself a bit from Chance's gaze. Oh, Telamon, was this embarrassing to the demolitionist.

After a moment, they finally mustered up the words, their hands moving quickly, "🙏🫵🎰❤️" ("Thank you, Chance."). Taph signed out quickly, taking out the gauze from the medkit and hastily wrapping their wounded shoulder. Chance grinned at their hand signs.

"No problem, buddy! Happy to help a friend in need, long as you repay the favor someday, yea?" Taph quickly nodded, watching the gambler wrap a bullet in a small bit of cloth and stuff it into the gun barrel along with the absurd amount of gunpowder. Huh.. interesting. Taph watched with curiousity, which wasn't missed by the other.

"You interested in my trusty flintlock?" He spoke with a teasing grin on his face.

"🔫💥❓" ("Why are you putting so much gunpowder in?") Taph squinted at the gun, while Chance dug some more gunpower from a small bag in his pocket.

"It makes the bullet come out faster, cause more stuff is forcin' it out! That way, it really stuns the killer when it hits." Taph stared at the gun, still clearly curious.

"...Lemme show you! At least the loading steps." Chance pulled the demolitionist to their feet, leaving the mostly used medkit on the ground. Taph was holding a box of hello kitty bandaids. They were low on medical equipment at the main cabin, so they figured they would bring these back.

"You gotta half-cock the hammer, which is right here." He prodded at a large piece of the pistol, which was awkwardly sticking up a bit.

"I already did that, though. So we can skip that. Then, you pour the gunpowder in the barrel, right here." He lightly tapped the barrel of the gun, as if Taph had never seen a gun before in their life.

"Once you do that, you put the bullet in with the gunpowder. I typically wrap mine in a bit of cloth so that it's a tighter fit, and more of the explosion is pushing the bullet out instead of just going around." Taph slowly nodded.

"Then," They took out some more gunpowder. How much do they have?! "You put gunpowder in the pan, which is this part here." They demonstrated, pouring a generous amount of gunpowder in the pan.

"When I shoot it, the flint hits the steel, makes sparks, lights the gunpowder in here up, and it goes through the little hole right here and makes it really go boom. You like when stuff does that, right?"

Taph slowly nodded their head. They like building their traps and bombs because they like the safety that they bring, not necessarily the explosion they caused. But he knew it would be a bit difficult to say that to the other, and not explain his reasonings, so they didn't make any signs, besides a quick "👍" ("Yes.").

"Aight. Then, I snap this bit of iron into place, so the flint will actually hit it. And then cock the hammer the rest of the way.. and it's ready to made me look hot, and stun the killer." They grinned smugly.

Speaking of, where was the killer? It had been a while... Chance turned around, starting to walk off.

"Use that information as you will, buddy! Ill see you at the cabin!" And just like that, the gambler was gone. Taph blinked a few times before just going on their way. This.. wasn't too bad of a round. They learned something new. Maybe they could web this new information into a new trap!
