Chapter 1
Summary:
Everyone starts preparing for the big wedding.
Chapter Text
"Hey, how was the future?" Iris asked the away team when they got back.
"They are free and currently rebuilding their society. Nova and Erikson just came back for the wedding." Barry said.
"And Thawne?" Gabby asked.
"Locked up in a prison at the end of time. Not even he will be able to escape that. At least not easily." Barry said.
"So it's over for now." Iris said.
"Yep, and just in time, since I think it's time I make an honest woman out of you." Barry said and Iris smiled.
"Well, the only issue is that a few people still haven't RSVP'd yet." Iris said.
"Who?" Barry asked.
"Kara, we need to talk." Lena said over the comms at the Island while her fiance was in the field.
"Kind of busy at the moment." Supergirl said as she and Dreamer tag teamed a rogue Hellgrammite in National City.
"Is my sister hogging the training room again?" Dreamer asked.
"Yep, but seriously Kara, we still need to decide if we're going to Barry and Iris's wedding, since we haven't RSVP'd yet." Lena said.
"Hang on a second." Supergirl said as she knocked the Hellgrammite flat on its ass as the DEO arrived to take him into custody.
"Well?" Lena asked.
"Of course we're going, I'm a bridesmaid after all." Kara asked and Lena grinned.
"Great, I'll send in our RSVP so they'll know to book enough food to feed a speedster and two Kryptonians, assuming Clark's attending too." Lena said as she checked the yes box on the RSVP card.
Speaking of Clark, he and Steel, aka John Henry Irons, were fighting the bounty hunter Lobo (played by Jason Momoa, like he will be in the upcoming Supergirl movie) in Metropolis when Lois came on over the comms.
"Clark, we need to talk." Lois said.
"Little busy here Lois." Superman said as he dodged a punch from Lobo and returned it.
"Come on, you've beaten Lobo before and this time he's not even chasing a bounty." Lois said as Steel fired a missile at the bounty hunter.
"You're gonna pay for that poozer." Lobo said, only to receive an uppercut punch from Superman, sending him flying into the air before Superman flew up and slammed him back into the ground.
"Okay, you were saying?" Superman asked.
"I need to know how to RSVP for Barry and Iris's wedding, since we'll need to call in my sister to watch the kids while we're gone." Lois said, since Lucy had recently revealed her identity as Major Marvel to them, which meant that her powers would help her keep up with the kids, since all three of them now had different powers.
"Of course we're going, since you're forgetting who's officiating the ceremony." Superman said.
"Well you never said anything to officially confirm, so I needed to check before I RSVP'd and we're running late as it is." Lois said.
"And tell your sister to be prepared to cover for me while we're in Central City." Superman said.
"Will do." Lois said as she checked the yes box on the card while Superman and Steel moved to finish off Lobo, who was complaining that they weren't paying any attention to him.
"Not now Selina." Batman said as he, Robin, Spoiler and Orphan fought Bane and his soldiers at the docks of Gotham City, trying to stop them from unloading the latest shipment of Venom.
"Real quick Bruce. I just need to know if you're planning on coming with me to Barry and Iris's wedding." Selina said.
"Of course. I'm just wrapping this up before we leave. Alfred's already set to watch Damien while we're gone." Batman said as he knocked Bane out.
"Good. Just wanted to make sure you knew you didn't have a choice about it." Selina said to her husband as she replied yes.
"Are you sure you can't stay here longer?" Jason asked Diana as she and her protege Cassie Sandsmark (played by Freya Skye), the new Wonder Girl, met him on Hephaestia.
"Cassie can stay longer if she wants, but I need to get going, since Steve and I have a wedding to attend, and I need to make sure he remembered to send in our RSVP." Diana said.
"This place is amazing." Cassie said as she looked around in awe at this ancient history.
"You can stay here if you want, as long as your mother approves. I need to get going." Diana said to her younger paternal half-sister, since like Donna, Cassie a daughter of Zeus and a mortal woman.
"Hey, did you and Laurel remember to RSVP to Barry's wedding?" Spartan asked Green Arrow as they fought some ninjas in Star City alongside Katana, Red Arrow, Huntress, and their latest recruit, Wild Dog, aka, officer Rene Ramirez.
"Of course. You're forgetting I'm a groomsman and my daughter is the flower girl." Green Arrow said as he fired an arrow at one of the ninjas.
"And Huntress and I are both looking forward to watching the city while you guys are gone." Red Arrow said, since Spartan and his wife had been invited too.
"Why are they in charge when I'm older?" Wild Dog asked.
"They've been doing this longer and you're the new guy." Green Arrow said as he landed a perfect bullseye behind him while facing Wild Dog.
"Not to mention Artemis is going to be there as Wally's plus one." Laurel said over the comms.
"I was trying to avoid thinking about that." Green Arrow said and Spartan chuckled as they resumed fighting.
"Hey, we remembered to RSVP to Barry and Iris's wedding right?" Green Lantern asked Blue Beetle as they took out some asteroids headed towards the city.
"Khaji?" Blue Beetle asked the scarab, which had access to her personal calendar.
"We did not." Blue Beetle said after a moment.
"Fix that now, since that's a serious breach of courtesy." Green Lantern said as she used her ring to reduce the last space rock to dust.
"Come on, we need to go make sure we're all packed." Blue Beetle said and Green Lantern nodded.
In Smallville, Martian Manhunter was taking down a thug with super strength who'd been causing problems for the cops, though he had an assist from Ultrawoman and his girlfriend J'inn H'rac, or as she was called now in the rare cases she showed her green martian form, since after J'inn had revealed that the White Martians had developed a way to use their blood to turn green martians into white ones, J'onn had used the League's nerds to reverse the process to turn whites into greens, which both J'inn and M'gann preferred, since while M'gann was already half green, they both preferred to help restore the Green Martian population, but anyways, the name J'inn was using was Sentinel, after J'onn's old partner on Mars.
"You guys looking forward to the wedding?" Ultrawoman asked as they watched the guy get locked up.
"I'm excited, but also nervous, since this the first time I'll be meeting all of J'onn's Justice League friends." Sentinel said, since she'd never met most of them before.
"You'll be fine and I think that Supergirl and Green Lantern will be happy I'm no longer checking the single box anymore." Martian Manhunter said.
"Guess it's up to me to protect this town, since Superboy is off at football camp and Sarah's still training." Ultrawoman said, since she'd been teaching her daughter how to control her Kryptonian side and also, prevent her from exposing her Luthor side, since the last thing Lana wanted was Lex finding out about her.
"You'll be fine Lana." Martian Manhunter said.
Chapter 2
Notes:
Okay, so I've decided to rewrite this story starting with chapter two, since chapter one was perfect, but I've been doing some thinking and I think that what was originally here could be improved on significantly. I hope you like it.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
"Wow, this place is so nice." Iris said as she and Barry walked into the Shiloh Ridge Hotel near the Sycamore Creek Family Ranch in the Lake of the Ozarks Missouri, a few hours away from Central City to allow all of Team Flash to get away from their responsibilities for the next three days for the wedding and in their absence, Central City was being minded by new heroes Metamorpho (Ralph Dibny) and Flamebird (Samantha Arias).
"Yes it is. And thankfully Carla is paying for this." Barry said, since while it was normally tradition for the bride's family to pay for the wedding, since Barry's stepmom was almost as rich as Bruce Wayne due to her running Tannhauser Labs, which while not as significant as it once was, is still a prominent figure in the science gain, so she was covering all the expenses to give her stepson and future daughter-in-law the wedding they deserved.
"I think my dad is covering some of the expenses for the sake of his pride." Iris said as they moved to the front desk to check in.
"Hellow, welcome to the Shiloh Ridge Hotel, how can I help you?" the receptionist asked.
"Reservation for Allen." Barry said as the receptionist typed in.
"For Barry or for Henry?" the receptionist asked, since two people were booked under that name.
"Barry Allen." Barry said.
"Oh, in that case, congratulations to you and your lovely fiance on your upcoming nuptials. We're truly flattered that you chose to stay here to prepare for your big day. Your room is still being prepared, but in the meantime, we'll take your bags while you two take a look around the facilities and enjoy yourselves. We'll let you know when your room is ready." the receptionist said.
"Thank you." Barry said as he and Iris handed their bags to the staff and moved away as the rest of the Central City crew arrived, meaning Caitlin and Gabby, Cisco and Lisa, Joe, Cecille and Wally, Henry and Carla and Allegra, Nova and Erikson.
"Wow this place is nice." Cisco said as he looked around the lobby.
"Yeah, if I was still a thief, I'd be casing this place right now. Though now that I'm a cop, I've put that life behind me." Lisa said, quickly adding that last bit to Joe.
"Nicest place I've ever seen." Allegra agreed as she looked around.
"You picked a really nice place for your wedding." Erikson said, since places like this didn't exist in his time.
"I'm just glad that we didn't have to spend a bunch of time stuck in a car or spending money on gas." Lisa said with a smirk, since, after a lot of pressure from his friends, Cisco had finally come clean to Lisa about being Vibe and working with the Flash, which she'd actually already started to figure out, since she was a cop and training to be a detective and because of that, they, along with the rest of the Central City group had just breached here from Central City while, Barry and Iris had arrived via Barry's super speed, though Barry had promised Iris that would be the last time he used his powers this weekend, since he'd already promised Iris that he wouldn't be the Flash until after they returned from their honeymoon. Which was exactly why he'd left his Flash ring back home to ensure that he didn't get tempted. And he wasn't the only one. Iris had done the same thing and so had Caitlin and Cisco. Gabby had even left her amulet at home. As far as anyone was concerned, they were a bunch of regular people this weekend.
"It's weird being normal for once. Then again, I'm not sure my life was ever normal. Even where I'm from." Nova said and Erikson nodded in agreement.
"Well enjoy it, because for the next 72 hours, we are not Team Flash, we are normal, non-powered people." Iris said.
"And I assume that rule applies to the guests." Joe said and Barry nodded.
"I sent a message out over our private network to inform all those attending that no powers can be used here unless it's the end of the world." Barry said.
"In which case you all have permission to suit up. Even though we all left our suits at home." Iris said.
"Let's not think about that. Let's focus on the fact that by the end of this weekend, Barry and Iris are finally going to be married. Something that is long overdue." Cecille said and they all nodded in agreement as the others went to get checked in.
Notes:
Okay, quick head's up, The venue I chose is a real place in lake of the ozarks Missouri, but any information I provide about it, there's a 50/50 chance that it's fictional. I hope you all enjoy this rewrite, since I think that this version is better than the original one.
Chapter 3
Summary:
Gabby gets Iris a special early wedding gift and Barry has drinks with a few friends.
Chapter Text
"Aunt Kristin." Gabby said to her aunt when she arrived at the hotel later on that afternoon, as Kramer had been invited by Barry, since she was a friend of his at CCPD and she was a friend of Joe's, since after she'd retired from the military, Kramer had joined the CCPD.
"Gabby, I got the item you asked for." Kristin said as she reached into her bag and handed Gabby a small package.
"Thank you. I would've done it myself, but I've been busy helping Caitlin keep Iris from going full on bridezilla, since the closer we got to today, the crazier she seemed to get." Gabby said as she looked down at the wrapped package.
"I can understand that. And I was happy to do this. But do Barry and Iris know about what else you're planning for this weekend?" Kristin asked.
"They do and they're both on board." Gabby said.
"Good. And I have to say, it is well past time that you do this. But anyways, I suggest you find the bride and give her that gift before she's surrounded by people." Kristin said.
"I will. Go get checked in." Gabby said as she hugged the only family she had who was still talking to her, aside from her brother.
"I love you kiddo. Now go do this." Kristin said and Gabby nodded as she went to find Iris.
At the same time as this, Barry was currently sitting at a table in the hotel bar, sipping a glass of scotch and he was not alone.
"Thank you for buying the good stuff Kara." Barry said to the two people he was drinking with, two of his closest friends in the Justice League, Kara Danvers and Oliver Queen.
"Consider it an early wedding gift to you." Kara said, since she was paying for their drinks.
"To the man of the weekend. Barry. Congratulations." Oliver said as he held out his drink for a toast, which Barry and Kara joined in.
"Congratulations." Kara said.
"Thank you both. And Oliver, I'm guessing that you're trying to make this scotch count." Barry said and Oliver chuckled.
"Oh yeah. Laurel being pregnant means that alcohol is off the table for me this weekend, since I promised her that I'd refrain from drinking while she can't. Which means that she's going to kill me if she finds out about it." Oliver said.
"How is she handling the pregnancy this time around, since it's gotta be easier with you around this time." Kara asked.
"Yeah, it's much better for her since now she can actually yell at me for doing this to her. Ignoring the fact that she was a willing participant." Oliver said and Barry and Kara both chuckled.
"Congratulations Oliver. Are you excited to be a father again?" Kara asked, trying to stifle her laughter.
"I am, but Barry, quit laughing, sooner or later, you'll be the one in my position when Iris gets pregnant. Kara, you are so lucky that you'll never have to deal with that." Oliver said.
"Yeah, having kids is not the milestone in my relationship that I want to think about right now." Kara said.
"Right, I guess you'd want to focus on your wedding. How's the planning going for that by the way?" Barry asked.
"Slow and expensive. Thankfully we can more than afford it, but still. We're still trying to agree on a venue, not to mention the guest list and so many other things." Kara said.
"Yeah, glad I won't have to deal with that anymore." Barry said.
"It's worse being a famous CEO. But let's not focus on my wedding, let's focus on yours. You sure you're ready for this Barry?" Kara asked.
"I've been ready for this since I was 11 years old. And I can't wait for this weekend to be over, since when it is, that means that Iris will finally be my wife." Barry said and Kara and Oliver both smiled.
"You're gonna be a great husband Barry." Oliver said.
"And you're going to make a great father. Not that you weren't already one." Barry said.
"Thank you. And thank you again for inviting Artemis to the ceremony and even making her a bridesmaid." Oliver said, since Yolanda was still at boxing camp, Oliver had let Artemis take a weekend off from cheer camp to attend Barry and Iris's wedding.
"That was Iris's idea since Wally's one of my groomsmen." Barry said.
"So she's trying to play matchmaker." Oliver said with a chuckle as Kara sipped her drink.
"She's Wally's big sister, meddling in his love life is her job." Barry said.
"He better treat her right. Otherwise, no amount of speed healing will save him from me." Oliver said.
Iris was getting settled into her and Barry's hotel room when there was a knock on the door and found Gabby on the other side of it.
"Gabby, what's going on." Iris asked.
"I have a little early wedding gift." Gabby said as she handed the present to Iris.
"What is it?" Iris said with a smile as she opened the package to find a photo of her old marine squadron.
"Our squad." Iris said.
"My aunt Kristin reached out to their families and they all sent gifts and photos, so in a way, it feels like they'll all be here too." Gabby said and she saw tears come to Iris's eyes.
"Thank you so much." Iris said as she hugged her best friend.
"Of course. It only seemed right that they be here in some form and this is as close as we can get." Gabby said.
"Don't get soft on me now Lieutenant West. After all, you need to keep Barry in line." Gabby said and Iris laughed.
Chapter 4
Summary:
Wally and Artemis reunite for the wedding.
Chapter Text
After all the guests had gotten checked in, everyone began to spread out a bit throughout the resort, since there were plenty of activities to do in the meantime and no one wanted to just stick around in their rooms until the welcome dinner tonight, since Barry and Iris had made plans that would last the whole weekend. Tonight was the welcome dinner for all the out of town guests and tomorrow would be full of final wedding preparations and then finally, Sunday, would be the final countdown to the ceremony.
Wally was currently sitting in the lobby, bored out of his mind, since so far, aside from Allegra, there was no one here his age to hang out with, since most of his friends hadn't been invited for obvious reasons, but it was still annoying, sincere wasn't that close to Allegra and he didn't want to spend the entire weekend alone.
"Hey stranger." Artemis said with a smile as she sat down next to him.
"Artemis, I wasn't sure you'd make it." Wally said with a grin while grateful that Artemis couldn't hear his heart beat speed up a little faster than it already did.
"I wouldn't miss this for the world. Besides, I could use a break from cheer camp, since Karen and I go to the same camp and she is such a show off." Artemis said.
"Really. So she's nothing like her sisters then." Wally said with a chuckle, which Artemis shared.
"Pretty much. And sorry I haven't been able to find you sooner, I only just escaped Jasmine's death grip, since she was so excited to have me back for the weekend." Artemis said.
"So where is she now, since I know Oliver's out with Barry right now and I'm guessing she's not with Laurel either." Wally said.
"No, we're actually playing hide and seek, so if you could help me find her before Laurel finds out I lost her, I'd appreciate it." Artemis said, since she'd looked everywhere she could think of for where Jasmine was and couldn't find her.
"I'm sure she's around here somewhere, but you know that there's a kids club here right?" Wally asked, since the hotel really did provide everything, including a way for parents to get a break from their kids.
"I do now and once we find Jasmine, I'm going to see if Laurel will let me drop her off there so that I can spend some time with someone my own age." Artemis said.
"Unfortunately, we have to do this at normal speed, since you know the rules for this weekend." Wally said and Artemis nodded, right as they heard a little girl giggle under a nearby table.
"But I don't think that will be a problem." Artemis said as she moved to look under the table and sure enough, found her little sister hiding down there with a big grin on her face.
"You found me." Jasmine said with a grin as she crawled out from under the table and into her big sister's arms.
"Yes I did. Jasmine, this is my friend Wally. I think you met him at your parents' wedding." Artemis said.
"Hi. Are you a hero like Artie?" Jasmine asked and Wally chuckled.
"Artie?" Wally asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Artemis is a hard name for someone her age to say, so she calls me Artie. Which you will never tell anyone." Artemis said, seeing the grin on Wally's face.
"My lips are sealed. But to answer your question Jasmine, yes, I'm a hero like Artie." Wally said.
"Come on Jasmine, let's go find your mom. I'm sure she's ready to take you back by now." Artemis said and Jasmine nodded as Artemis took her upstairs.
Chapter 5
Summary:
Jesse and Eddie meet a new family member.
Chapter Text
Ever since Jesse and Eddie arrived at the hotel, they'd noticed that one of the other guests seemed to be trying to go out of their way to avoid even looking at them. And he also seemed to be spending a lot of time around that girl from the future, Nova Beretta.
Finally, Jesse decided to just ask Barry what was going on with that guy and to find out if he'd cause any issues at the wedding.
"Jesse, what can I do for you?" Barry asked.
"You can tell me who that guy is with Nova and why he seems to be avoiding Eddie and I?" Jesse asked and Barry sighed.
"Because that is Erikson Thawne. Son of the Reverse Flash, Eobard Thawne." Barry said.
"Wait, Thawne, as in?" Jesse asked, feeling nauseated by the very thought.
"Erikson confirmed that you and Eddie are his ancestors, which means you're the Reverse Flash's ancestors too." Barry said.
"Wait, so the man who's not only responsible for your mother's death, but also killing my parents is actually theirs and my descendant. This takes messed up family to a whole new level." Jesse said, since she'd already learned that the Reverse Flash killed her mother and that he'd actually killed her father too and stolen his identity. Meaning that the man she'd thought had abandoned was actually the man who killed her parents instead.
"Erikson is not like his father. In fact, he's the only reason we managed to defeat Thawne, since he's the one who sent Nova back in time to be trained. He's a descendant you can be proud of." Barry said.
"I hope so, since finding out that my grandson killed my parents almost put me off kids. But maybe I should find out if the rest of them are as bad as the Reverse Flash, since I don't know too much about my future, but I need to know that my descendants aren't all sociopathic assholes who take joy in the pain and misery of others." Jesse said.
"Don't worry, Eobard is kind of the black sheep of the Thawne bloodline." Nova said as she joined them, since she'd noticed Erikson avoiding his ancestors too and wanted to nip that in the bud as soon as possible.
"So, he's the only bad Thawne?" Jesse asked hopefully.
"Well, there is Erikson's younger brother Thaddeus and the apple did not fall far from the tree there. He fully bought into his father's lunacy, but based on what I learned in history, since Thawne insisted on everyone learning his family tree and it turns out that you and Eddie are the first in a long time of prominent Thawnes, since the only families that have more prestige are those that come from the founding members of the Justice League, among others." Nova assured her and Jesse smiled at that.
"Then tell him to stop hiding from me and Eddie, since I want to find out if he got my mind." Jesse said.
"I'll go grab him, since I'm tired of him avoiding you and Eddie too. Especially since it used to be his dream to get to meet his heroic ancestors and he's the one who created the device that restored Eddie's human form." Nova said.
"Then we definitely need to thank him for that." Jesse said.
"You get your Thawne, I'll get mine." Nova said and Jesse nodded as they separated.
"So, you're Erikson." Eddie said as Nova dragged him over to where he and Jesse were waiting.
"Uh, yes sir. Erikson Thawne, IQ 226." Erikson said stiffly.
"Okay, thanks for that." Jesse said as Nova chuckled.
"He always acts like that when he's nervous. When he first met me, he recited the entire periodic table, which has even more elements in our time, meaning it took even longer." Nova said.
"Relax. No reason to be nervous." Jesse said as she held out her hand to Erikson, who shook it in awe.
"It's an honor to meet you both." Erikson said in awe.
"I hear I have you to thank for giving me my body back." Eddie said.
"It was nothing." Erikson said shyly.
"Okay, clearly we need to get some drinks for this kid to help him loosen up a bit." Jesse said, even though Erikson was probably the same age as her and Eddie right now.
"Agreed. I've developed a real taste for alcohol since I came here and I'll be taking plenty back with me." Nova agreed as they headed towards the bar.
Chapter 6
Summary:
The ladies go out to get one more fitting for their dresses before the big day.
Chapter Text
"I still can't believe that you decided to make the color of your bridesmaids dresses red." Caitlin said to Iris as they, along with Gabby, Kara, Jesse, Nova, Laurel, Artemis, Jasmine, Cecille and Carla stood in the nearby bridal boutique that had been storing all their dresses, especially Iris's wedding dress, for a final fitting, while also making sure that Barry was nowhere to be seen, since Barry and Iris were following what was not only a standard superstition, but also what had become a League tradition of making sure that the groom did not see the bride in her dress until the wedding, since considering how risky their lives were, they didn't want to take any chances of jinxing their wedding.
Laurel was there for two reasons. The first one was that while Artemis was old enough to get fitted for her dress without supervision, Jasmine was also being fitted for her flower girl dress and she still required adult supervision, especially to keep her from accidentally ruining any of the other dresses in her excitement. The other reason was that she wanted to get her own dress altered to reflect the fact that she was starting to show a bit of her pregnancy, which meant her dress was becoming a little tight in certain places, so she wanted to get it adjusted.
"What can I say? I have a thing for red. Besides, all of the groomsmen will be wearing red vests with their tuxes, so you'll match. Besides, what's the most important law of any wedding?" Iris asked.
"When the bride wants something, she gets it. Which is going to make it complicated when I get married, since there will be two brides." Kara said.
"Have you given any thought about what color your bridesmaids dresses will be?" Jesse asked.
"Probably some kind of combination of blue and purple." Kara said, since blue was obviously her color and purple was Lena's.
"Well, I'm sure that whoever your bridesmaids are will look beautiful." Iris said.
"I've already chosen my bridal party. Alex is obviously going to be my maid of honor and Lois, Sam, Karen, Diana and Kate are going to be my bridesmaids." Kara said.
"Has Lena made any choices?" Laurel asked.
"Zatanna is going to be her maid of honor and Nia, Felicity, Donna, M'gann and one of her old friends, Andrea Rojas are going to be her bridesmaids." Kara said she stepped out of the changing room, wearing the same dress as the other bridesmaids, but she seemed to rock it better than the rest of them.
"Damn, are you sure blue's your color, since you're rocking that red?" Gabby asked as Kara took a look at herself in the mirror.
"Well, I pull off red almost as well as blue for obvious reasons, I just hope I'm not eclipsing the bride, since no bridesmaid should be more beautiful than the bride herself." Kara said as one the seamstresses went over to make sure that even though it felt right, that the sizes were correct.
"Well, why don't we find out." Iris said as she stepped out of her own changing room, wearing a bright white vera wang wedding dress and she looked so gorgeous Kara didn't feel worried about outshining her at all.
"So, how do I look?" Iris asked, grateful that the straps of her dress hid the port that her bionic arm connected too, since she wasn't keen on people being reminded of her injuries. She just wanted them to see her as the beautiful bride on her wedding day, not an injured veteran, since while she was proud of her service, she didn't want to think about that on what was going to be the happiest day of her life.
"Like any bride should. Like every single eye at the wedding will be on you when you walk down the aisle in that dress. You'll be the most beautiful person there." Gabby said.
"And that's before I've had a chance to work my make-up magic on you." Cecille said with a proud smile on her face as she looked at her daughter in her wedding dress, looking more beautiful than ever before. She knew that Iris had chosen this dress not just because of the way it looked, but also because it would cover her bionic arm, not to mention her battle scars from her time overseas.
Chapter 7
Summary:
The guys play poker and later on, Barry and Oliver get a drink together.
Chapter Text
Later on that night in the hotel, Cisco was hosting a best man's poker game for Barry with all the guys in one of the conference rooms in the hotel to make sure that they had enough space for everyone who'd been invited to play, which was basically everyone who was in the know, meaning they were either members of the Justice League or affiliated with them in some way. Which meant that in this case, it was Barry, Cisco, Oliver, Hal, Clark, Bruce, Red Tornado, or as he was known in his human form (played by Paul Bettany), John Smith, Eddie, Wally, Joe, Henry, J'onn, Erickson, Steve, and Jefferson were sitting around the table as Cisco wore a typical dealer's visor as he began to deal the cards.
"Okay, before we start, I'm gonna lay down some ground rules, the main one being no superpowers. No mind reading, super speed, x-ray vision or any other powers are to be used to give anyone an unfair advantage." Cisco said, looking directly at Barry, Wally, Clark and J'onn when he said that.
"Agreed." Barry said and the others nodded in agreement as well.
"Okay then, deal the cards." Wally said.
"Should we really be letting a teenager play poker with us?" Jefferson asked as Cisco began dealing the cards.
"Wally's not dumb enough to try and do anything with both me and his dad watching him." Barry said and Wally nodded, since he knew he was lucky his dad was letting him attend this game at all, so he didn't want to push his luck.
"So, how's Yolanda doing at boxing camp?" Bruce asked about Oliver's other foster daughter, the one who wasn't attending the wedding, since the only reason Artemis was attending was because Barry and Iris were trying to get the two to realize what was right in front of them.
"She's doing well and thank you for setting us up with that therapist. I didn't think about the possible psychological effects this could have on people her age. I'm trying to get Artemis to see her too, but Yolanda has been very receptive to it." Oliver said.
"Glad to hear it. Maybe if I'd gotten Jason proper counselling, he wouldn't have gone down the path he did. Leslie Thompkins has been very good, especially since she's the only therapist I could trust with all my secrets." Bruce said, since while Jason was undergoing rehab at Argus, it wasn't easy to think about how he'd failed his third protege. Dick and Helena had both been such naturals at this that Bruce hadn't thought that Jason would be any different.
"Thea wants to study under her, since she's studying to become a therapist too and she could be another asset to us." Oliver said and Bruce nodded.
"I'll talk to Leslie, see if she's interested in letting Thea shadow her." Bruce said.
"Enough chit chat people, let's play some cards." Hal said.
"This coming from one of the biggest chatterboxes in the League?" Clark asked, raising an eyebrow as they all sat down and Cisco started dealing out the cards.
Later on that night after the poker game, Barry and Oliver got away from the others and were down at the bar, since Laurel had given Oliver her blessing to get drinks, since she hadn't really expected him to keep his promise anyways. Besides, he needed a break after losing money to Bruce all night. He was still convinced his former mentor and future-in-law had cheated somehow.
"So, got any tips for me on the whole being married thing?" Barry asked Oliver.
"I'm still relatively new to it myself, since Laurel and I have only been married a few months. Even though we've known it would happen since high school." Oliver said.
"So you never had any doubts?" Barry asked, raising an eyebrow.
"At first I did and I know she had her doubts about me, but the older I got and the longer we were together, the more I knew that Laurel was the one for me. It turns out high school romances can still be built to last. When I went to join the army to prove to Laurel's dad that I deserved her, I actually gave her an out. Told her that I didn't expect her to wait for me and that if she moved on with someone else her dad approved of, I'd understand when I got back." Oliver said.
"What did she say to that?" Barry asked.
"She told me I was being ridiculous and promised me she'd wait for me, no matter how long I was gone. I was the only man she'd ever loved and would never give up on me. In fact, she actually tried to talk me out of joining the service, saying that we didn't need her dad's blessing to be together, but I wanted it. I wanted to prove to Quentin and to myself that I deserved her. I'm still not sure I deserve her." Oliver said.
"We all know she could do better than a billionaire CEO who's also one of the world's greatest heroes and a founding member of the Justice League." Barry said with a grin as he sipped his drink.
"The same could be said about Iris. I'm still expecting her to come to her senses and realize that she can do better than the most powerful speedster on the planet and founding member of the League. But you guys are another high school romance that gets a happy ending." Oliver said and Barry nodded.
"We both got the girls after all. I've loved Iris since I was 11 years old. And if it weren't for Caitlin pushing me to ask her out, I probably still wouldn't have told her how I felt." Barry said.
"And I'm sure Caitlin will mention that in her maid of honor speech at the reception on Sunday." Oliver said.
Chapter 8
Summary:
Iris, Laurel and Lena go out to brunch together.
Chapter Text
The next morning found Iris out for brunch with Laurel and Lena, the significant others of two of her fiance's closest friends.
"So, tomorrow's the big day." Lena said to Iris as they sipped their drinks, all of them being non alcoholic, Laurel because she was pregnant and Iris and Lena were drinking non alcoholic drinks out of respect for her.
"Yeah. I have to admit, while I've been picturing my wedding to Barry for years, I never thought it would quite like this." Iris admitted.
"Tell me about it." Laurel said.
"I'm feeling a little left out, since I'm the only one in this little group that I'm still not sure how exactly it formed that isn't married to or engaged to their high school sweetheart." Lena said.
"Don't feel too bad about that. I'm sure that if you and Kara went to high school together, you would've wound up together." Laurel said.
"I don't know about that. I mean we met in college and were pretty much rivals. Though I'll admit that was mostly my fault since I was jealous of the fact that Kara seemed to beat me at everything. So much wasted time hating her, I almost became my brother." Lena said.
"Really, I find that hard to believe." Laurel said, since every time they'd seen Lena, she was happily at Kara's side.
"It's true. We didn't get along at first. In fact, it wasn't until we met up at a reunion right after I got fired from Luthor Corp and she offered me a job that we even became friends." Lena said.
"So then how did you two get together?" Iris asked, since they'd never heard that story.
"Lex kidnapped me. This was actually how he got completely exposed as the lunatic he is today." Lena said.
"Right, I remember seeing the news reports that Supergirl personally saved you from him, since that was when Alex and J'onn made their public debuts too." Iris said and Lena nodded.
"Lex kidnapped me since he wanted to try to steal my access codes to the Argo Enterprises network so he could commit corporate espionage, since he wanted to steal our technology in addition to his own. The moment Kara realized I was missing, she started searching everywhere for me and smashed through the wall to save me. She was willing to face Lex's kryptonite just to save me. Luckily Alex and J'onn were there, since Lex wasn't prepared to deal with them. But after Kara got me to the hospital, we both knew that we couldn't deny what we felt anymore and we decided to give things a shot. Though thankfully her dog liked me, otherwise I don't think we'd still be together since Kara told me up front that Krypto not liking me is a dealbreaker, since she trusts her dog's judgement of people. Luckily, I passed that test and now I'm marrying the perfect woman. But enough about me. After all, this is Iris's wedding weekend, not mine. Besides, I'm sure the three of us will do this again at my wedding." Lena said.
"Remind me why we didn't do this at my wedding?" Laurel asked.
"I wish I had an answer for that, but I don't think the three of us were that close yet, despite the fact Oliver, Barry and Kara are pretty tight. Just like Clark, Bruce and Diana are pretty tight." Iris said, referring to the three main trinities of the Justice League.
"We should do this more often though. Maybe once a month?" Lena suggested.
"Let's discuss that after I give birth, since if I'm gonna do brunch, I want to drink some alcohol. And Lena, please tell me that you and Kara are planning on holding your wedding after my due date." Laurel said.
"We're still trying to pick a date, so don't worry, I'll make sure that we take that into account." Lena promised.
"I think the three of us are going to make great friends. Especially since one of us has a little extra pull on the Justice League to help us get in." Iris said, since they were aware of Lena's magic.
"Why don't you ask Lena's fiance, since she's the leader." Laurel said.
"I already did, Kara's integrity prevents her from doing things like that. But we have to earn our way in and Laurel is the only one here who has done that so far, since Kara and Barry can't put either of us up for a vote, since otherwise, people might think we didn't earn our places in the League, we only got them because of who our spouses are." Lena said and Iris nodded, since that did make sense.
"Anyways, you're both coming to the spa with me and the bridesmaids right?" Iris asked.
"Of course we are. I could use a spa day and Jasmine's looking forward to being pampered like a princess. I think she's starting to understand that she won't be getting all the attention after the new baby arrives and she's trying to get as much of it now as she can." Laurel said.
"I was upset at first when Wally was born, until I realized that mom and dad were so busy taking care of him that I could get away with a lot more stuff." Iris said with a smirk.
"Please don't tell Jasmine that. I learned that lesson too after Sara was born, but the consequences were not worth it." Laurel said.
Chapter 9
Summary:
A day in karaoke leads to another couple taking a big step in their relationship.
Chapter Text
"I still can't believe you let Cisco drag us all here." Oliver said to Barry, since while the girls were out at their spa day, Cisco had brought the guys, meaning himself, Barry, Oliver, Hal, Bruce, Clark, Joe, Eddie, Erikson, Henry, J'onn, Steve and Wally to a nearby karaoke bar in town.
"What, there's no way Barry is getting away without singing." Cisco said.
"And I wouldn't mind getting to show off my voice as well." Wally said, since he was allowed in, even though he wasn't allowed to drink.
"And if the stories Sara's mentioned in DC are any indication, you've got a decent voice too Oliver." Steve said with a smirk, causing all the guys to look at Oliver in surprise.
"Remind me to remove White Canary from the League's potential recruit list for running her mouth off." Oliver said.
"Okay, so you're definitely getting up there and doing at least one song, request from the groom." Barry said with a chuckle.
"If I see any videos of it, I start using whoever posted them for target practice." Oliver warned.
"Don't worry, it looks like we have the place to ourselves, so we shouldn't have to worry about that, but I'm assuming the girls know about this?" Bruce asked and Cisco nodded, since the place was pretty well cleared out.
"Lisa said that the girls might join us after their spa day, since I know a fair number of them can sing too." Cisco said.
"Oh yeah, Kara definitely has a set of pipes. I swear if she hadn't gone into science, she could've had a career as a professional singer." Clark confirmed.
"Alex is a decent singer herself." J'onn said.
"Anyways, Barry's going first, what song are you doing?" Cisco asked as Barry took the mic.
"I thought I'd start things off with a little country." Barry said as the tune to life is a highway.
"Of course a speedster would pick this song." Oliver said as he rolled his eyes.
"What's country?" Erikson asked, right as Barry started to sing the chorus.
"Life is a highway, I'm gonna ride it all night long." Barry said as all the guys began to cheer him on.
"That is country and Barry is rocking it." Cisco said as they watched him continue to sing.
"Interesting." Erikson said as they continued to watch Barry rock Rascal Flatts.
Once he finished however, the other guys began pressuring Oliver to join him up there.
"Come on Oliver, just one song for my wedding weekend." Barry said.
"Fine. But there better be no proof of this." Oliver said.
"We promise." Bruce said on behalf of all the guys as Oliver reluctantly got on stage with the groom as the music started playing.
"Oh come on Barry." Oliver said as he recognized the music.
"You're the one who told me this was your jam. No taking it back now. Especially since it's." Barry said and Oliver just rolled his eyes, but grinned nonetheless as the song started and they sang together.
"It's tearin' up my heart when I'm with you. When we are apart, I feel it too. And no matter what I do I feel the pain. With or without you." Barry and Oliver sang together as the guys cheered.
"I don't know why Oliver didn't want to sing, he's got a good voice. Not as good as Barry obviously, but still, he's decent." Cisco said.
"It ruins his image, since like me, Oliver's hero reputation is a darker one and sometimes it's hard to turn that off." Bruce said as they reached the end of the song.
A few hours later, the girls had joined them and right now they were all watching Barry and Kara, the two best singers in the Justice League, singing Dream On by Arrowsmith.
"We should really consider doing a karaoke tournament on the Watchtower." Clark said, since it could serve as a good team building exercise for the League and it wasn't like the Watchtower wasn't equipped for social events, along with official league activities.
"That's not a bad idea." Diana said, since she had a decent voice herself and would love to show off her skills a bit more as the song came to an end and as Barry got off the stage, Gabby walked to him and whispered something in his ear, to which he nodded as Gabby got up on stage and grabbed the mic.
"Okay, this next song goes out to both the happy couple and more importantly, to my beautiful girlfriend Caitlin. I'd like to think that this is actually our song." Gabby said as Iris smiled, knowing what her friend was doing and had given her full support.
"It's been said and done. Every beautiful thoughts been already sung. So I guess right now here's another one. So your melody will play on and on. With the best of us, you are beautiful. LIke a dream come to life incredible. And I want you to know, baby. I, I love you like a love song baby. I love you like a love song baby. I, I love you like a love song baby. And I keep hitting repeat peat peat peat." Gabby said the same song she'd initially used to ask Caitlin out and Caitln was loving it as she continued the song and actually pulled Caitlin up on stage with her before reaching into her back pocket as she reached the end of the song, Gabby surprised nearly everyone besides Barry and Iris, who'd already given their blessing, by getting down on one knee and pulled out ring.
"Caitlin Snow, will you marry me?" Gabby asked, since while her plan had initially been to wait until the bouquet toss tomorrow, patience was never her strong suit.
Caitlin was stunned into silence for a few minutes but once she returned to her senses, she immediately started nodding until her voice unfroze.
"Yes. Yes of course I'll marry you." Caitlin said, since she could tell that her brother was not at all upset by this happening before his wedding, since he was grinning happily for her as Gabby slid the ring onto Caitlin's finger.
Chapter 10
Summary:
The wedding has arrived and Barry gets a surprise from an unexpected, but welcomed guest.
Notes:
Now that Halloween has passed, I'm putting Titans back on pause until this story is over. I just wanted to be able to do Eclipso's release on Halloween. Now I'm going back to this story being the only one I'm working on for now.
Chapter Text
The following morning found everyone getting ready for the big moment, since the ceremony was set to start at noon. Right now Barry was in the groom's room, finishing getting ready when he heard thunder and lightning.
"Come on. Not now." Barry said, thinking that the thunder was the sign of a storm coming, but when he looked outside he saw it was bright and sunny.
"What the?" Barry asked, only to turn around to see the lightning inside his room.
"Why does the speed force have to need me now?" Barry muttered, since recognized this now as a portal to the speed force.
"Actually, it doesn't need you now Barry." Nora Allen said as she walked out.
"Mom?" Barry asked, since while he knew his mother was one with the speed force, he hadn't seen her since he didn't know how long.
"You didn't think I'd miss my special boy's wedding day did you? I can exist outside the speed force for a few hours. Just long enough to watch you marry the woman you love." Nora said and Barry smiled.
"I'm so glad you're here. I didn't think you'd be able to come." Barry said, in fact, he hadn't even thought about her coming today.
"I wouldn't miss this for anything. Even though you clearly forgot that I can exist outside the speed force for a short time." Nora said knowingly.
"And now I'm wondering how we're going to explain how a woman who's been dead for nearly 2 decades shows up at the wedding of a CSI that's got plenty of cops here." Barry said.
"I'll stay in the shadows in the back, but I wasn't going to miss this." Nora said.
"Well, I'm glad you're here." Barry said with a smile.
"Like I said, I wouldn't miss this for anything." Nora said.
"Hang on, let me text dad. I don't think he's seen you since I told him that you've merged with the speed force." Barry said.
"I haven't. I think he's worried about what he might do if he sees me again, even though I'm happy he's moved on and even though he's a speedster, we wouldn't be able to make it work anymore. Which is why I didn't even reveal anything about this years ago." Nora said and Barry smiled, right as his father walked into the room.
"Barry, I got your text, what's, Nora." Henry said, shocked at seeing his ex-wife standing there.
"Hello Henry." Nora said to her ex-husband.
"Barry told me you were one with the speed force, but it's another thing to see it in person." Henry said.
"You could've come to see me whenever you wanted." Nora said.
"I couldn't. Not when I'm happily remarried and I didn't want to feel like I was betraying Carla by sneaking off to see you." Henry said.
"Henry, I'm happy you moved on, since we would never be able to work out together now since I can't exist outside the speed force more than a few hours. Just long enough to watch our son get married to the love of his life." Nora said and Henry smiled.
"Well I'm glad you're here, since I actually told Carla that my biggest regret about today is that you wouldn't be here. I'm glad I was wrong, though you know you can't be in the wedding pictures, since that will draw too much suspicion." Henry said.
"I know. I just want to watch my son get married. After that, I'll have to leave. At least until I get grandkids. Then I might start popping in a little more often." Nora said with a smile.
"Can we please table that topic until after the honeymoon." Barry said, blushing a bit.
"Remember Barry, it's the bride who's supposed to be blushing today. Speaking of which, have you seen her?" Henry asked.
"No. I haven't seen Iris since we parted ways after the rehearsal dinner last night, since we're not taking any chances and it's kind of become a ritual in the League. The groom does not see the bride before the ceremony. Diana and Steve did it and so did Oliver and Laurel and even Clark and Lois and Bruce and Selina did it back when they got married before most of the Justice League even put on their masks or capes. I'm just following the trend, not taking any chances with any bad luck, considering the lives we live." Barry said.
"Probably a good idea. I did the same thing at both my weddings. First to your mother and then to Carla." Henry said.
"Speaking of which, I look forward to meeting her. Finally someone who can sympathize with the pain that comes from being your wife." Nora said mockingly, causing Barry to chuckle.
"Very funny." Henry said, rolling his eyes at her.
Chapter 11
Summary:
On the day of the wedding, Iris gets a surprise visit from some people she never thought she'd see again.
Chapter Text
Iris was currently standing in the bride's room, finishing getting her dress on and making sure that it covered the port that her cybernetic arm hooked into and covered as many of her battle scars as possible, since while she was proud of her service of course, today, she didn't want to be seen as a soldier. Today, she just wanted to be seen as the beautiful bride.
"Well, someone looks gorgeous." Joe said as he and Cecille entered the room.
"Thanks dad. I'm just making sure that the dress is covering my prosthetic. I'm still not fond of people knowing about it." Iris said.
"Don't worry Iris, you look beautiful. Barry is going to lose his mind and his ability to speak when he sees you." Cecille assured her daughter.
"Thanks mom." Iris said with a smile as she took a look at herself in her dress.
"I still can't believe this day is finally here." Joe said, right as Gabby entered the room.
"Hope you don't mind a bridesmaid intruding, but I've got a little pre wedding gift for Iris that I'd like to give her before she gets caught up in being the center of attention." Gabby said.
"Of course not. We'll give you two a minute." Joe said as he and Cecille left them alone.
"What's going on?" Iris asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Just watch this." Gabby said as she held up a laptop and Iris was stunned when she saw their old unit on it.
"A picture of our old squad?" Iris asked, choked up at seeing the smiling faces of Troy Danforth, Charles Lopez, Kai Li, Sasha Taylor and Roberta Getty looking back at her.
"It's more than that. I made this before our last mission. Call it a feeling." Gabby said as she clicked play.
"Hey Lieutenant West. We're making this because right now we can all tell how much you miss your special man Barry. We've all met him and he's a great guy, though you can do better than him." Danforth said with a smile as Taylor smacked him.
"Ignore him Iris. We all love him and we hope that soon he'll work up the guts to ask you to marry him when you get back. And we all want to wish you well for when you do get married, since while we hope to be there with you person, with the line of work we've chosen, you can't be too sure. So Gabby's recording this just in case. And know that if for some reason we can't be there physically, we're there in spirit." Lopez said and Iris had to wipe her eyes to prevent tears at hearing this to keep her carefully applied make up from running.
"Seriously Iris, we wish you all the best and hope you have a long and happy marriage and that you also fulfill your dream of journalism after we get back home, since while you're the best soldier we've seen, it's clear that your heart is set on becoming a reporter. And you should pursue it." Taylor said.
"Once again Iris, we want you and Barry to be happy together and hopefully you will be." Li said as they waved goodbye before the video ended.
"I thought you should see them at least once today." Gabby said.
"They should be here with us." Iris said.
"And they are. Maybe not in person, but like they said, they're here in spirit. Plus, you not only have this video, but the picture of our squad that I gave you back when this weekend began." Gabby said and Iris smiled.
"Thank you Gabby. And now I'm glad I wore waterproof makeup today, otherwise it would be running right now." Iris said, since seeing her old squad again had made her emotional.
"Semper fi." Gabby said and Iris smiled at the official marine motto.
"Semper fi. Now, it's time for me to finally get married." Iris said.
"Agreed. And I believe it's almost time for us to take our positions." Gabby said, since it was almost time for the ceremony to begin.
Chapter 12
Summary:
The long awaited wedding ceremony finally begins.
Chapter Text
As the music started playing, everyone moved to take their seats. On Barry's side of the aisle sat his fellow Justice League members and their spouses, his colleagues from CCPD and old friends and family. On Iris's side sat other friends from the military, from college, distant family and her subordinates at the Central City Citizen.
Standing up at the altar alone for now was Clark, prepared to perform his role as the wedding minister. After everyone took their seats, the ceremony began and the signal was given for the groomsmen and bridesmaids to start making their way down the aisle.
First down the aisle came Wally and Artemis, arms locked together. After them came Eddie and Jesse, followed by Bruce and Nova, then Kara and Hal, then Oliver and Gabby and finally came the best man and maid of honor, Cisco and Caitlin. All the bridesmaids were wearing matching bright red dresses that happened to be the same shade of red as Barry's suit with gold sashes and the groomsmen were all wearing tuxes with matching red vests under their jackets.
Finally, Barry came down the aisle, being walked down by his dad and stepmom, since his birth mom was sticking to the back of his side of the aisle to avoid attention. After he reached the altar, Barry walked up the steps and took his place to the right of Clark and the left of Cisco while his parents moved to sit down at the front of his side of the aisle.
The next one to come down the aisle was the flower girl, Jasmine Queen, who, just like she'd done for both her aunt Sara's wedding and her own parents' wedding, walked down the aisle and gently tossed flower petals as she went until she reached the end, at which point, she moved go to sit down next to her mommy on the bride's side of the aisle.
Next came the ringbearer, Damien Wayne, who, after he reached the altar, moved to take his place next to Wally, like they'd rehearsed.
Finally, the music changed to the bridal march as all the guests stood up as Iris came walking down the aisle, looking absolutely beautiful, arms locked with her parents until they met Barry at the steps.
"You take good care of my girl Barry. Not that I doubt you will, but I needed to say it." Joe said and Barry nodded.
"Don't worry, I will." Barry promised as he took Iris's hand from her dad's and walked her up to the altar.
"You may be seated." Clark said as everyone took their seats.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to bear witness to Bartholomew Henry Allen and Iris Anne West becoming joined in holy matrimony. I think I speak for everyone who's seen these together when I say that this day is long overdue. Normally this is the part where I ask if anyone has any objections or reasons as to why these two should not be wed, but I doubt anyone here is dumb enough to come up with an answer to that question, so let's act like I never said it." Clark said and several people chuckled.
"We will now move on to the exchanges of vows and rings. Barry, please recite your vows to Iris." Clark said, wondering if Barry was going to speed read his vows, since he knew that the groom was seriously considering doing that.
Barry nodded as he remembered a piece of advice Oliver had given him about his vows.
"Iris. From the day we met back when we were 11 years old, I knew that this was where I wanted to be with you someday. After I lost my mom, you were there for me at a time when it felt like no one else was. You are and always will be my lightning rod and I promise I'll always come running home to you. No matter how far away I am or how fast I have to run." Barry said with a smile, since no one who wasn't in the know would know the true meaning of that, but Iris was beaming at him.
"Iris, will you please recite your vows to Barry." Clark said and Iris nodded.
"Barry, when we first met, I could tell that you were something special. Or well, as much as an 11 year old can know that. But what I did know is that you were someone I wanted to have with me for the rest of my life and I can't imagine anyone else as my husband. They say love is a friendship that caught fire, but in our case, it's a friendship that was struck by lightning. When I'm with you, I feel like I'm walking on air and when the rest of the world is a tornado of chaos, I know that everything will be okay as long as you're standing with me in the eye of the storm." Iris said and Barry smiled at that.
"Will the ring bearer please present the wedding bands." Clark said as Damien stepped up to them and Barry and Iris took each other's rings into their hands.
"And now onto the good stuff. Do you, Barry Allen, take Iris West to be your lawfully wedded wife? To have and to hold. To love and cherish. For rich or for poor. In good times and in bad ones, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?" Clark asked.
"I do." Barry said as he slid Iris's wedding band onto her finger.
"And do you, Iris West, take Barry Allen to be your lawfully wedded husband? To have and to hold. To love and cherish. For rich or for poor. In good times and in bad ones, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?" Clark asked.
"I do." Iris said as she slid Barry's wedding ring onto his hand.
"Then, by the power vested in me, I hereby pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." Clark said as Barry and Iris shared their first kiss as husband and wife while the crowd clapped for them.
Chapter 13
Summary:
Wedding pictures are taken and another couple finally gives into their romance.
Chapter Text
After the ceremony, everyone hung around in the area around the lake for wedding photos and the happy hour that was taking place while they waited for the ballroom to finish being set up for the reception.
Barry and Iris did photos with just about everyone. First they did the obvious photo of just them. Then a photo of them with the wedding party, then their families. After that, Barry did a photo with his parents, then his groomsmen, then his sister Caitlin. Then he insisted on doing a few special photos. The first one was with Caitlin and Cisco, the only original members of Team Flash invited to the wedding. After that, he took a picture with Kara, Clark, Alex, J'onn, Diana, Oliver and Bruce, aka, his fellow founding Justice League members.
Iris did her personalized photos next. The first one was with her parents and brother, then just one of her and her parents, then one of her and Wally, then one with her and her bridesmaids. The next one was of her, Laurel and Lena, due to their little club, then one with Gabby, plus framed photos of the lost members of their squad, since it was the closest they'd ever get to having them there in the pictures.
After they were officially released from having to take photos, Artemis decided that she and Wally had done this dance long enough. After all, she was pretty sure they felt the same about each other, and considering the number of teasing phone calls she'd gotten from Yolanda since she'd found out that not only was Artemis was invited to the wedding, but she was a bridesmaid and would be walking down the aisle with him, Artemis was ready to finally get seriously about this.
"Artemis, what's up?" Wally asked when she pulled him aside.
"I need to ask you something." Artemis said.
"What is it?" Wally asked.
"What are we doing here? I mean, we're clearly close, we enjoy each other's company and before Young Justice was disbanded, we were partners. But I need to know what you're expecting from me, since I'm tired of doing this dance with you. Are we friends, are we more than that?" Artemis asked, only to have her questions answered by Wally kissing her.
"Does that answer your question?" Wally asked with a smirk when he pulled away.
"It does, but next time, let the lady lead." Artemis said with a smile as she looked around to make sure her parents and sister were preoccupied before turning back to him.
"And you're lucky it was you who tried that. Anyone else would be on the ground right now after I kicked them in heels where the sun doesn't shine. Now where were we?" Artemis asked with a smile as she then kissed him.
"About time." they heard someone say and the two teenagers pulled apart to see Iris smirking at them.
"Iris." Wally said to his sister.
"Thank you little bro. I just won 50 bucks from your new girlfriend's stepmom and I think Barry won 40 from Oliver." Iris said.
"You were betting on us?" Artemis asked.
"Like your old teammates from Young Justice weren't doing that like when Karen and Donna were in denial and fyi, Kara and Diana had a betting pool going on that pair too and I'm pretty sure even Clark and J'onn have something going on for Connor and M'gann, since I think that's the only other pairing in your group that's blind, though I think the hope is that now that M'gann's living in Smallville with Connor, they'll finally figure it out." Iris said and Artemis blushed.
"I need to go call my sister. Excuse me." Artemis said, taking an excuse to leave this awkward moment.
"Really Iris?" Wally asked.
"Hey, I'd be neglecting my job as a big sister if I didn't tease you a bit. But don't worry, I won't tell mom and dad until after I get back from my honeymoon." Iris promised.
"Thank you. That's the last thing I need right now." Wally said.
"Plus, dad's focus should be on me today, not you." Iris said and while normally that would sound snobby, since it was Iris's wedding day, that made sense.
"It looks like they're done setting up for the reception." Wally now said, changing the subject, causing Iris to roll her eyes, but she saw he was right.
"Let's go." Iris said.
"Iris, you do look beautiful. Just like every bride should." Wally said and Iris smiled.
"Thanks bro. And if you play your cards right with Artemis, in a few years, you'll get to see her wearing a dress like this walking down the aisle towards you." Iris said as she moved to rejoin her new husband.
Chapter 14
Summary:
Barry and Iris share their first dance as husband and wife and Nora deals with some unexpected wedding crashers.
Chapter Text
After they were all let into the ballroom, everyone quickly cleared the way for the newlywed couple to make their way to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife while Kara took the stage with the band, since Barry had asked her to breakout her not so secret super power for the first dance and Kara had been more than happy to do so.
"Okay everyone, please make sure the dance floor is clear for the first dance of Mr. and Mrs. Barry Allen." Kara said, even though she knew Iris was hyphenating.
Barry and Iris took their positions for the dance as Kara began singing.
"Can't say how the days will unfold." Kara sang as she continued singing running home to you, which Barry and Iris had chosen as their song.
"For a business tycoon, she's got one hell of a voice." Joe said as he listened to Kara sing.
"Yes she can. Though personally I would've preferred to hear you sing their song, since you've got a decent voice yourself." Cecille said to her husband.
"No, my singing days are long behind me. At least until we start getting grandkids for me to sing to." Joe said, since the last time he'd done any singing was when he'd been putting Iris and even Wally to bed when they were kids.
"Fair enough. But I do think it's a waste of your voice. But I think we're closer to becoming grandparents, since Iris is married and judging by how closely Wally is standing to Artemis, I'd say that he's finally come to his senses." Cecille said.
"I hope he behaves himself, since otherwise, not even speed healing will protect him from a certain archer." Joe said as the song came to an end and both Joe and Carla were called to the floor for the father daughter and mother son dances.
"I have to admit, I was surprised you asked me to do this." Carla said to her stepson.
"Well, I couldn't exactly ask my birthmom to do this since she'd kind of draw attention to herself since she's supposed to be. And besides Carla, you're almost as much my mom as she is." Barry said as they continued to dance.
Later on in the reception, they found Barry and Iris sitting at the head table with their families and the wedding party as the caterers brought out all the food. Though two of the caterers seemed to be paying special attention to the bride and groom, not that anyone noticed. Well, one person noticed.
Nora just smiled at them, though she also gave them a look that meant that when she left, they needed to leave too.
But just to be sure, Nora signalled to the two of them to meet her outside, which they did.
"Did you really think that you could appear here without me knowing?" Nora asked the two.
"It was worth a shot." Dawn Nora West-Allen said on behalf of both herself and her younger brother Don Bartholomew West-Allen.
"What are you doing here?" Nora asked her grandchildren.
"We just wanted to see our parents' wedding with our own eyes. Not mess with the timeline or anything." Don said.
"How did you get here without your father detecting it?" Nora asked, since unless they were using the negative side of the speed force, their father should've sensed it.
"We arrived while Dad was busy fighting Thawne through the speed force, so he was so distracted by that that he didn't notice us coming through." Dawn said.
"And we're not leaving until after mom and dad are gone on their honeymoon to make sure that he doesn't sense us. After all, West-Allen family rule number one is to preserve the timeline at all costs." Dawn said.
"Or I can conceal you from your father just this once, since I need to be going soon too and I think that you two have spent enough time here as it is. The longer you're here, the more likely you are to give into the heroic instincts you inherited from your parents and change things. Go, now." Nora said, since she did not want her grandkids to ruin her son's wedding day.
"Okay, we're going SFN." Don said and Dawn nodded as Nora opened up a portal and sent her grandkids through it in flashes of yellow and purple lightning. Her grandkids, XS and Impulse. Children of the Flash.
Chapter 15
Summary:
The wedding weekend is over and it's time for goodbyes.
Notes:
Last chapter of the story. Normally we'd do a bouquet toss, but since Caitlin was the one who was going to catch it and she's already engaged, we're skipping past it to the final day of the weekend. Then it's back to the regular series. And eventually, the big SuperCorp wedding that I think most readers are looking forward to. Now onto the story.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Later on after the reception, Henry noticed his ex-wife drifting away and decided to follow her.
"You're getting ready to leave aren't you?" Henry asked Nora, who nodded.
"I've already risked being gone too long already. The longer I stay out of the speed force, the weaker I get and the less stable the speed force becomes. The symbiosis between us is necessary. But I wasn't going to miss our son's wedding. You did a good job raising him alone before you got remarried." Nora said and Henry smiled.
"He's a hero." Henry said.
"Just like his father." Nora said.
"I wouldn't go that far, since Barry doesn't have the destruction of an entire world on his docket." Henry said.
"It wasn't just your fault Henry. Clarris was just as responsible. You need to stop blaming yourself. Especially since I think that with the scarlet speedster on his honeymoon, this world could use some assistance from the crimson comet." Nora said.
"I can't Nora. I can't risk dooming another world." Henry said.
"Henry, you have to stop blaming yourself for the past. You've been stationery for too long. It's time to get back in the race. Heroes don't stop running." Nora said and Henry couldn't help to see the logic in her argument.
"I never could win an argument against you. Since I know you're right. But I guess that the feeling that I shouldn't suit up again was reinforced when I couldn't save you." Henry said.
"That was done intentionally. The speed force wouldn't let you save me, because like it or not, my death is a fixed point in time. It can't be altered, since it had such a pivotal role in Barry's life, in shaping the man he is today. Though I didn't know it until after I became one with the speed force." Nora said.
"Wow. And you're okay with that?" Henry asked.
"I wasn't happy that Barry had to grow up without me, but at least he's grown up into a kind, considerate man who's also one of the world's greatest heroes. And I have no regrets about us. I went from living a joyless mundane life as an Argus agent to having a wonderful life with you and our son as a mother. I'm at peace Henry. So please don't come into the speed force to see me, since that could be considered cheating on your wife. Besides, we've both changed a lot since then, so I don't think we'd work out anymore." Nora said and Henry chuckled.
"I won't. But it is good to know that you're still with us in some way. It does remove some guilt from my shoulders." Henry said and Nora smiled as she placed her hand on his shoulder.
"And remember, every time you run, I'm with you. So run, Henry, run." Nora said as she vanished in a surge of lightning.
The next morning found Barry and Iris at the farewell brunch where everyone wished them well before their honeymoon.
"Well, you're next." Barry said to Kara as they hugged.
"Trust me, I know. You should see my house. It's covered in different wedding plans." Kara said.
"I will not miss that." Iris said as she hugged Lena.
"Take care of yourself Iris. Make sure Barry doesn't try to sneak off on your honeymoon." Lena said.
"Trust me, I'm making sure he won't. I made it clear that the Flash is off duty until we get back from our honeymoon." Iris said.
"Which is why I've already blocked him from the Justice League system unless it's a world ending threat." Kara said.
"And we've already locked our rings and my comm up in the Cave's vault." Barry said.
"Good. And here's a little tip that I'm planning for my wedding weekend. Use power dampening tech to make sure that your attention is only on your wife." Kara said.
"Trust me, power dampening cuffs are already in his bag and Morrow gave me an on/off switch for my powers for the same reason. It doesn't affect my ability to walk or anything though." Iris assured her.
"Good. So Caitlin's the resident hero of Central City." Kara said.
"Yep and I am looking forward to it." Caitlin said as she, Gabby, Cisco and Lisa joined them.
"And maybe it will give my man a chance to shine." Lisa said, since she felt that Barry and Caitlin stole the spotlight from Cisco.
"Hopefully. But Caitlin is still in charge, since she's second in command due to being the only other member of the League." Barry said.
"Don't worry, I'll obey her just like I do you. Hopefully things will be slow while you're gone." Cisco said.
"Yeah hopefully, we did try to schedule our wedding and honeymoon for what I guess you could say is our off season." Barry said.
"Let's just hope it stays quiet, since I don't want to have to deal with any world ending threats until I'm no longer the one who has to make those calls." Caitlin said.
"We can hope. But remember, the bad guys don't always schedule things at our convenience. But now, we need to get going, since we need to be in the Bahamas in time to check into our hotel, since this is the last time I'm using my speed until we get back." Barry said.
"Have fun." Cisco said.
"We will and we'll bring back pictures from the Oceanus hotel." Iris said.
Notes:
And that's a wrap on this addition of the Wedding Chronicles. It's back to the regular series now.
