    Alec stops a few paces away, coiling paracord in neater circles. The kids – goggled, weapon-grade awkward – spot him like little magpies spot a shiny thing.
    “Are you Harper’s bodyguard?” the girl with a French braid asks.
    Alec takes too long to answer. Q helps, not taking eyes from the clipboard.
    “A man from London wilting without wilderness,” he declares and hands Alec his own lanyard. It says MR TREVELYAN. Alec winces. Q glares. The children observe them like a proof by contradiction.
