Summary:

In the endless void of loneliness,
drowned in darkness,
he gazed into the one whose hands had turned him into a mere plaything,
as a burning silence echoed through his eternity.

At dawn, he wandered around to make sure no trace of that presence remained,
so he could begin his day with a sense of ease.

But as time passed in uneasy calm,
news of an event reached him—
and he trembled, rushing toward it,
unaware of what awaited him ahead.

Notes:

Hello, hello!
I’m back with a new story. Though this one isn’t mine—it’s written by a friend of mine, and I’m sharing it with their permission. :>
Just to repeat: this story is not mine!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it, because I’ve certainly enjoyed it so far.

Chapter Text

Part 2
Sunlight streamed through the window, shining into the home of the two-tailed fox. The blue hedgehog’s eyelids twitched slightly—he was lying on the couch right in front of the window, sleeping under the bright rays of the morning sun. Before opening his eyes, he frowned; the sunlight was too strong and bothered him. Slowly, he blinked several times, then opened his eyes and looked around. His gaze fell on a yellow fox sleeping on another couch. He turned his head a bit more, looking for someone else, but after remembering something, stopped peering around.

He sat up on the couch just as a pink girl with messy, tangled hair walked out of one of the rooms. The blue hedgehog couldn’t help but laugh when he saw the pink girl—or rather, Amy—and tried not to burst out laughing at her messy state. Amy frowned at the sight of Sonic laughing at her and shouted:
“Sonic!”

On the other side of the room, the poor fox who had been sound asleep jolted awake at Amy’s shout and blurted out instinctively:
“Wha—what? Who’s trying to destroy the world this time?!”

At that, Amy and Sonic both burst out laughing, while Tails blinked in confusion, staring at the two of them. A few moments passed before Amy finally stopped laughing and said:
“Who’s hungry?! I’m making breakfast!”

Sonic, who had already stepped into the kitchen, walked over to the fridge, opened it, and stuck his upper body inside. From inside the fridge, he called out:
“So, Chef Amy, what’s on the menu today?”

Amy sighed in exasperation before marching toward Sonic to pull him out of the fridge and said:
“Pancakes! I’m making pancakes—and no, not what you’re thinking!”

Tails, catching her meaning, added:
“Yeah, seriously, who eats chili dogs first thing in the morning?”

Sonic, who was now sitting on the kitchen counter, immediately replied:
“Me!”

Tails and Amy exchanged looks, too baffled to respond, until Tails rolled his eyes and said lazily:
“Honestly, I’d be shocked if you didn’t say that.”

And Amy added, finishing his thought:
“Classic Sonic! Can’t change him—he is what he is.”

Sonic grinned widely at his friends’ reactions and said:
“Alright, alright—for my awesome friends, I’ll skip the chili dogs this time and settle for pancakes.”

Amy, now both tired of talking and hungry, said to the two boys:
“Enough talking already! Let’s get to work—I’m starving—”

Sonic raised an eyebrow and said:
“‘Let’s get to work’? Why are you saying we?”

Amy lifted one eyebrow and replied:
“Because I cook, and you two just sit there and eat? Nope, not happening! Get over here and help!”

She grabbed a bag of flour from the cabinet, opened it, and began preparing. Tails joined her, taking out a mixing bowl, whisk, and a few plates, placing them on the counter, then pushed Sonic down from the countertop. Stuck between the two, Sonic said:
“I don’t even know how to cook! I’ll just ruin our delicious pancakes!”

Amy replied:
“I’ll tell you exactly what to do. As long as you listen to me, nothing will go wrong.”

Tails added:
“Yeah, come on, don’t try to weasel out of this. I know you’re just looking for an excuse to lounge around while we cook and you eat!”

Sonic, flashing a sheepish grin, said:
“Alright, alright—you got me. Step aside, your chef has arrived!”

After about twenty minutes, the pancakes were ready. Tails and Sonic sat at the table, staring at the pancakes that seemed to wink at them, urging them to take a bite. Amy, just before sitting down to join them, suddenly said quickly:
“Oh, I almost forgot!”

She ran to the fridge, pulled out a bottle of chocolate syrup, and set it on the table. Now the three of them were ready to devour the pancakes—until suddenly, the doorbell rang, stopping their “attack.”

With a loud scrape, Sonic pushed his chair back and stood up. Turning to Tails and Amy, he said:
“Don’t eat until I get back!”

Without even glancing at their mischievous grins, he walked to the front door to see who was interrupting their breakfast. He grabbed the handle and pulled the door open. Standing on the other side was a broad-shouldered figure. The blue hedgehog’s eyes widened in surprise as he said:
“Knuckles?!”

Part 3
Knuckles, looking exhausted and panting heavily, brushed past Sonic and stepped into the house. After a brief pause, he spoke in a frantic tone:
“The Master Emerald!”

¸.•___________________________¸.•

(A little earlier — somewhere else)

He stood upon a fairly large rocky cliff, overlooking the vast forest below — though his gaze was fixed not on the trees, but on the sunrise. Every time the sun began to rise, he would lose himself in watching it, for that scene always brought back painful yet bittersweet memories.

A deep silence hung over the surroundings until the quiet was broken by the sound of wings flapping below the cliff. The black hedgehog, who had been completely absorbed in the sunrise, glanced down and saw exactly who he expected to find there.

A white bat rose gracefully from below, fluttering up until she landed softly beside him. After giving the hedgehog a once-over, she spoke gently:
“Thinking about him again?”

The black hedgehog, who had been resting in calm silence, muttered in a rough voice:
“If you’re here to disturb my peace, leave.”

The bat, clearly unimpressed by his attitude, retorted quickly:
“Is that any way to talk to a lady?”

With that, she took off again, hovering in front of the hedgehog against the backdrop of the rising sun. She continued:
“I came to tell you something — something I think you’ll want to know.”

The black hedgehog had closed his eyes again, seemingly uninterested. But in truth, he was waiting for her to continue — and the white bat knew it. So she went on:
“This morning, I went to Angel Island to check on my beloved.”

At that, the black hedgehog opened one eye slightly, realizing who she meant — that red echidna. The bat continued:
“I expected it to be hard to get close to him, but… but Knuckles wasn’t there to stop me from reaching the Master Emerald.”

The black hedgehog, still as serious as ever, cut in before she could finish:
“And what’s that got to do with me, Rouge?”

The white bat — Rouge — huffed and replied:
“Hold on, I’m not done yet.”

After a short pause, she added:
“When I got to Angel Island, Knuckles was gone — and… here’s the weird part: the Master Emerald has turned purple!”

With that, the black hedgehog’s eyes shot fully open. He turned to Rouge and demanded:
“Why?”

Rouge blinked and said:
“Why what?”

“The Master Emerald,” he said impatiently. “Why is it purple?”

Rouge shrugged carelessly.
“How should I know? If you’re that curious, go find out yourself. I’m no fortune teller, Shadow.”

Shadow rolled his eyes, then leapt off the cliff, landing gracefully before sprinting into the forest — toward an unknown destination.
