he smiles at her like they’re just running into each other in the training center. he doesn’t even glance at her weapon.

"okay, evans. geez."
her eyes flick to his shoulder, where only now she notices blood seeping down his arm. she raises the dagger anyway, lump in her throat. in spite of herself, she follows the dark steady line of red. down, down, down the ripped sleeves of his jacket. dripping glossy on the forest floor.
"if you think i’m going to let you go because you’re injured," she says, "you’re mistaken."
"good," he says, swaying a little, but still with that infuriating smile. "was counting on that."
and then he passes out.
