Work Text:
Slow piano and guitar played across the kitchen as they prepared for dinner. Vincent was standing by the grill, half out the back door to keep an eye out on the fish they'd caught for dinner, another eye on Allison as she leaned over her homework with a pencil clutched tightly in her hand, and his husband with his head bowed next to her.
"And you can tell everybody-" Vincent crooned along to Elton John's voice on the radio, lifting his head from grill as dinner sizzled away. He flicked a whole peppercorn at Ryan and chuckled as it bounced off of his forehead and onto the sheet of homework in front of him."This is your song."
Ryan looked up from where he was sitting at the dinner table.
Allison peered up from beneath her fringe next to him, surprised that Vincent started singing.
"Papa?" Her wide, green eyes blinked at him.
"It may be quite simple, but now that it's done-" He turned the dial on the grill to a lower frame and then reached over to turn the volume dial on the radio up. "I hope you don't mind."
The smile on Ryan's face as he glanced back down at their daughter's homework was shy, cheeks already flushing red.
"I hope you don't mind that I put down in words-" He propped open the screen door with a shoe and stepped into their kitchen. Allison was smiling at him, gaze shifting between both her parents with her wide eyes as she realized what was happening. "How wonderful life is, while you're in the world."
"Babe." Ryan complained.
"Come on," Vincent laughed as he sidled over to their dining table. "And kicked off the moss." He kept on going as he reached out for Ryan to rub his hands over Ryan's shoulders. He leaned in to press a kiss to his mouth as Ryan turned those beautiful green eyes up towards him, smiling with his teeth.
Allison's giggle was tooth-rottingly sweet.
"Hi baby." He breathed when he pulled away from Ryan.
"That was so cheesy." Ryan accused.
