Studio of Horror

Summary:

In a parody of a Simpsons "Treehouse of Horror" episode, Hatsune Miku and friends face supernatural threats and insurmountable odds, whether in good Halloween fun or not. Mostly the not.

Notes:

Yeah, I know it's November, but I figured it's still a good time to be in the Halloween spirit coming off of Spooktober. Happy belated Halloween!

Chapter 1: Len Sematary

Chapter Text

Opening Scene:
The camera pans over a foggy, spooky night at the outskirts of Crypton Studio, the wind howling, the occasional stray cat shrieking in terror. A decrepit old cemetery, covered in eerie moss, sits behind the main studio building, a place that no one dares to talk about unless they’re drunk enough to think they’re joking.

Miku (cheerfully): “Ooh! A graveyard! I’ve always wanted to see one of these!”

Kaito (shaking his head): "No, no, Miku, you really don't. Trust me. It's... it’s cursed, I think? Actually, it’s definitely cursed."

Miku (mockingly): “What? Like, cursed cursed? Or ‘we'll raise the dead and have a zombie karaoke party’ cursed?"

Kaito (sighing): "That second one, yeah."

The camera zooms in on the cemetery sign, which reads: "CRYPTON STUDIO PET SEMETERY - You Can Dig It (But Maybe Don’t)."

Miku (giggling): "Sounds like a blast! I mean, what’s the worst that could happen?"

Manager (hastily walking over with a clipboard, looking uncomfortable): “Ahem, well, Miku, this cemetery’s been here since the ‘80s. The original owner of the studio—Big Joe—may have gotten some... weird ideas about preserving talent.”

Miku (bouncing on her feet): “Ooooh, what kind of ideas? Like, putting his face on a pancake?”

Manager (sweating): "Uh, not quite. It’s more... he had a reputation for—ahem—experimenting with... how do I put this... necromancy?"

Miku (excited): "Oh! Like bringing back lost talent? Like, maybe… the perfect backup dancer?"

Manager (nervously): "Yeah, exactly! Only, um, it didn’t work out too well. So... just, you know, avoid the cemetery. It’s definitely not haunted, I’m sure. Nothing ever happened here."
Cue dramatic zoom in on the manager's face, sweat dripping down his forehead.

Kaito (whispering to Miku): “I think something definitely happened here.”

A Few Days Later:
Len and Rin are walking together towards the studio, arguing loudly as usual.

Rin (annoyed): “I’m telling you, Len, you can’t just eat everything in the fridge! I wanted that cake!”

Len (shrugging): “Well, I didn’t know it was yours. It said ‘for the party.’ I thought it was a gift for everyone!”

Rin (fuming): "It’s always ‘everyone’ when it’s my food! Why don't you ever get your own cake?”

They wander aimlessly into the street, still bickering. Suddenly, a car speeds toward them.
Rin (screaming): “LEN! MOVE!”

Len, not paying attention, gets plowed by the car. He goes flying into the air in an almost cartoonish fashion and lands with a heavy thud on the pavement.

Rin (sobbing uncontrollably): "Lennn!! Why didn’t you listen?! No! NOOO!"

Miku, Kaito, Luka, and Meiko run out of the studio, horrified by the scene. Miku rushes to Rin, who’s clutching Len’s lifeless body.

Miku (gently): "Rin… I’m so sorry…"

Rin (crying hysterically): "It’s… It’s my fault! It’s my fault!"
The screen fades to black.

Memorial Service:
The Crypton gang is gathered around a small makeshift memorial for Len in a field of flowers. Rin’s face is blank. Miku glances at Luka, who looks like she’s about to start Googling “Cursed Graveyard for Dummies.”

Rin (whispering): “Len… You can’t just leave me here… Please, come back. Please…

Rin starts sobbing. The other Vocaloids sang a tearful acoustic remix of “Butterfly on Your Right Shoulder.” Kaito cried into his popsicle. Sniffling, Rin hugged her knees to her chest.

Rin (softly, to herself): “What if I could… What if I could bring him back? Just for a little bit...?”

Suddenly, she gets a wild look in her eye, as if a light bulb went off above her head.

The Great Idea:
The next evening, Rin is in the middle of digging up Len’s grave, shovel in hand, wearing a determined expression.

Luka (on the phone with Miku): "Something’s wrong. I feel like I should go check on Rin. She... I don’t know, she seems like she’s about to make a huge mistake."

Miku (on the other end): "I agree. Maybe she’s planning to, I don’t know, start a petting zoo in the cemetery? Is it weird that I’m almost excited to find out?"

Luka: "No, Miku, she’s digging up Len’s body—again. She might be trying to—"

Miku (interrupting, lightbulb going off): "Ooh, this is just like that one time I got an email from a really persuasive prince in Nigeria... Luka, I’ll meet you there!"

At the Cemetery:
Rin stands triumphantly next to the freshly dug-up grave. She clutches Len’s body like a treasured stuffed animal, nodding to herself as if she’s just invented fire. Suddenly, the earth begins to tremble. A loud crack echoes, and from the ground, Len’s body bursts out—reanimated.

Rin (beaming): “Len! You’re back! I did it!”

Len’s eyes snap open. His face is blank—too blank—his mouth opens to speak, but only the sound of eerie static escapes.

Rin (deliriously happy): “You’re back! My twin! I—uh—wait, what’s that smell? Is it... a little... rotting?”

Zombie Len (grinning inhumanly): “MUST...KILL… MIKU… AND… ANNOYING SIBLING…”

Rin (eyes widening): "Oh. Oh no. Oh NO."

Zombie Len Attacks:
Luka and Miku arrive just in time to see Len lunge at them with a maniacal screech.

Luka (pulling Miku away): "Get out of here! He’s gone—he’s not the Len you remember anymore!"

Zombie Len does his best slasher villain impression, chasing the girls through the studio, each corner more surreal and zombified than the last. Luka is cornered by Len, who raises a rusted knife and slashes her open.

Luka (weakly, through blood-spattered lips): "Miku... watch out… Rin… it’s all... your fault...”

Miku, shaking with horror, is about to be the next victim when—
Rin (out of nowhere, holding a large knife): “No! I’ll fix this! I’ll fix it!”

In an emotional whirlwind, Rin throws herself into battle with her undead twin, managing to stab him in the chest. He falls to the ground, lifeless once again. Rin drops to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably.

Rin (whispering): “I’m so sorry, Len. I thought I could bring you back... but I couldn’t.”

The Twist Ending:
Later, Miku and Rin sip tea together in the studio, the evening quiet and calm. Rin finally seems at peace, letting go of the idea of bringing Len back.

Rin (softly): "I think I’m finally ready to let go. I just... I’ll always miss him, but... it's time to move on. Len’s gone, and that’s okay. He’ll always be part of me… just not in the ‘possessed murderous zombie’ way.”

Miku (nodding): “That’s good, Rin. Closure is important.”

Miku looks down, her face unreadable. There’s a long pause. Then she quietly murmurs—

Miku (almost casually): “So, uh, I... I buried Luka in the cemetery. I couldn’t let go of her. I... I just wanted to see her again.”

Rin (eyes widening): "What?"

Before Miku can respond, the door creaks open, and Luka—eyes glowing pink and now very much undead—walks in, her voice disturbingly calm.
Luka (putting her cold hand on their shoulders): “It’s okay, you guys. I’m back... for good.”

Lightning strikes.

Cue Miku and Rin’s synchronized scream.

Fade to black with dramatic organ music. Then, a small text appears on the screen:
“For the love of all that is good and holy, DO NOT dig up your friends. Seriously. What part of 'cursed' don’t you understand?”

Chapter 2: The Thing that Ate Everyone

Summary:

In a parody of John Carpenter's "The Thing", the gang face off against a shapeshifting alien. Trusts are betrayed, friendships are tested, and a group of very confused virtual singers are left questioning their life choices.

Chapter Text

Opening Scene:
The camera opens on the Crypton Studio, where the crew is gathered in celebration after a successful concert. A giant pizza box sits in the middle of the room, and everyone’s happily chowing down, sipping soda, and lounging on beanbags.

Miku (munching on a slice): “Man, this concert was a blast! Honestly, I think we’ve really hit our groove. We should do this more often.”

Luka (laughing): “That’s the sixth pizza you’ve had, Miku.”

Miku (grinning): “It’s called carbo-loading for the next performance. Very important stuff.”

Rin (glaring at Miku): “She just eats like that and never gains an ounce. It’s not fair!”

Kaito (holding up a slice of pizza with a dramatic flourish): “It’s the power of singing and dancing. A true artist must keep their energy up!”

Everyone laughs and continues eating, when suddenly—
Teto (confused): “Wait, hold on. Did we just... did we just get another me?”

The camera zooms in to reveal that there are now TWO Kasane Tetos sitting at the table. One is eating pizza, the other is holding an empty plate, staring ominously. They both look exactly the same.
Teto (nervously): “Uh… that’s not me.”
Teto 2 (grinning devilishly): “Oh, but it is, Teto. It’s me. All of me.”

*The room goes quiet as the Teto impostor’s eyes turn black and sharp. Her form begins to shift, transforming into a monstrous, shapeless alien creature.

Miku (gasping): “What the—?!”
The alien Teto lunges at the real Teto, devouring her whole with one horrifying, gooey gulp. The real Teto’s scream is cut off abruptly, and the creature runs off, smashing through a window in its escape.
The group scream in perfect harmony before fleeing down the hallway into the Recording Room.

In the Recording Room:
The group, now frantic, has gathered in a recording room, barricading the door. Meiko and Gumi stand in front, brandishing laser guns.

Meiko (calmly): “Listen up. This thing can shapeshift. That means we can’t trust anyone. We need to shoot anyone who isn’t the real person. Anyone who hesitates is the thing.”
Gumi (grinning like a mad scientist): “We’re going full Alien mode on this.”
Luka (looking down at her own hands, half-horrified, half-curious): “I’m... I’m just wondering—how do we even know we’re the real ones? You all seem so… perfect.”

Suddenly, the alien disguised as Len emerges from the shadows, making a growling sound as it lunges at Meiko.
Alien Len (smiling wickedly): “Nom nom nom.”

With one swift movement, the alien Len eats Meiko in a disturbing, overly comical fashion, like a blender set to “creamy.”
Miku (yelling in horror): “We need to run! Now!”

In Pairs:
The group scatters, pairing off for safety. Kaito and Rin make their way down the hall, looking nervously over their shoulders.

Kaito (frantic): “What if it’s one of us?! What if—?”
Rin (rolling her eyes): “I’m not eating you, Kaito. Chill out.”

Meanwhile, Gumi and Luka are huddled together in a corner, whispering about the blood test idea.
Gumi (brightly): “Okay, okay. We’re going to do a classic blood test! The thing can’t bleed, right?”
Kaito (popping in from behind them): “Except... none of us actually bleed. We’re all androids, remember? We're singers, not blood banks.”
Gumi (squinting): “Huh, actually...you’re... right. That... doesn’t help at all. I just—I really like blood tests, okay?”

The alien, now disguised as Luka, slowly turns to face them, her voice chilling.
Alien Luka: “Wait, are you... actually serious?”

Before anyone can respond, Alien Luka eats Gumi in a single gulp and runs off into the shadows.

Rin (yelling from down the hall): “IS ANYONE EVEN REAL?!”

Chaos Continues:
The group is in a state of complete disarray. Slowly, people are being picked off one by one. Everyone’s too paranoid to trust anyone. There are lasers firing left and right, accusations flying like confetti, and the body count is rising faster than a rock band’s popularity.

Soon, only two people are left: Hatsune Miku and Kagamine Rin, standing in the middle of the studio. They stood in the flickering light of the recording booth, pizza sauce splattered like blood across the walls. Both narrowed their eyes. They slowly raised their laser blasters at each other.

Miku (pointing a gun at Rin): “You—you’ve been acting weird. Are you the thing?!”
Rin (pointing a gun back at Miku): “I was going to ask you the same thing!”

Miku (frantically): “You sound like an alien!”
Rin: (terrified): “You dance like one!”
They both pause, staring at each other, trying to read each other’s eyes. A long silence stretches.

Miku (lowering her gun): “I... I don’t want to shoot you.”
Rin (sighing): “Me neither. But—”
Miku (interrupting, lowering her weapon completely): “Let’s just... hug it out. We’ll see who eats who.”
Rin: (nodding): "Bestie pact."

They both step toward each other, and in a moment of deep, heartfelt emotion, they hug it out. The lights flicker as tension builds, but they don’t pull away. They wait... for something to happen.
Suddenly, the door bursts open.

Enter the CEO:
Crypton studio’s CEO, a man who looks like he just stepped out of a boardroom meeting, walks in with a smug grin on his face.

CEO (clapping): “Congratulations, ladies! You passed the ultimate trust exercise. No one got hurt, everyone was fine. The alien was just an actor we hired for the test.”
Miku and Rin stare blankly at the CEO, unmoved.

Miku (eyes narrowing): “Wait, what?”
Rin (squinting): “That was all... a test? Are you serious?”
CEO (smiling smugly): “Yep! A very important test to see if the team could work together under stress. You see, trust is everything in the workplace, and we wanted to make sure... you trusted each other. And you both passed with flying colors!"

He pressed a button, and a slideshow appeared on the wall: Teto, Meiko, Luka, and the rest were posing in what looked like behind-the-scenes selfies.

CEO (grinning): “HR says your teamwork score was off the charts! Now let’s all take five and—”

Before he can finish, Miku and Rin exchange a glance. Then, without missing a beat, they both shoot the CEO in the chest. The man evaporates into a pile of sparkles and smoke. His smoldering tie fluttered to the floor.

Miku (laughing): “Nice try, alien. That was the worst trap ever.”
Rin (grinning): “Seriously? A trust exercise? What were you thinking?”

The Break Room:
Feeling victorious, Miku and Rin head toward the break room, ready to grab a snack and unwind. But as soon as they walk in, they freeze. Inside, there’s a huge pizza party underway. Everyone—including the alien—is there, casually chatting and eating.

Teto (beaming): “Hey, Miku! Rin! You two made it! Great job on not trusting anyone!”

Miku and Rin blink in confusion. Everyone was there. Teto, Meiko, Luka, Gumi, Len, even Kaito. All alive, chatting, and eating pizza with the alien, who was wearing a “Hi! My Name Is Steve (The Actor)” badge.

Teto (explaining cheerfully): “When we were all eaten, we were brought to the break room to cheer for you. The alien was just part of the whole thing. It’s all a trust exercise from the CEO! Isn’t it brilliant?”
Meiko (grinning): “So where’s the CEO? We’re all waiting for our raises from the test.”

Miku and Rin exchange a horrified look.

Rin (forcing a laugh): “Oh, uh… he left early!”
Miku (sweating digital bullets): “Yeah, Said something about, uh, taking a vaporized vacation!”

The girls glanced at each other nervously. The camera zooms in slowly on their faces, the tension palpable.
Rin (suddenly serious): “We... we need to take this as the ultimate trust test.”
Miku (nodding grimly): “Never tell anyone what happened here.”

The alien actor chuckled from the snack table.
Alien: (cheerfully):“You two did great. Almost like you really killed someone!”

Miku and Rin laughed along—maybe too loudly.

The camera zoomed in on the empty CEO’s chair, still faintly smoking.

The screen cuts to black, with a creepy, dramatic music sting.
A message flashes on screen: "Trust No One (Especially HR).”

Chapter 3: Night of the Living Diva

Summary:

In an attempt to get in the holiday spirit, Hatsune Miku performs a new spooky song for the occasion. Unfortunately, she ends up summoning an army of zombies, and it's up to her and the remaining Vocaloids to save the day.

Chapter Text

It was Halloween night, and Crypton Studio was decked out with plastic cobwebs, flickering LEDs, and one extremely confused Gumi inside a pumpkin costume.
Hatsune Miku stood center stage, waving to a roaring crowd of fans and glowsticks.

Miku (cheerfully): “Happy Halloween, everyone! I wrote a brand-new spooky song just for tonight! It’s called—” she held up a glittery sign, “—Raise the Dead.mp3!”

Silence. Luka coughed.

Luka (nervously): “Uh, Miku, that name seems… kinda literal.”

Miku (grinning): “Nonsense! It’s just a fun graveyard jam!”

As the first notes hit—complete with an autotuned church bell sample and a bassline made from reverse Gregorian chanting—the ground began to rumble.
From beneath the concert grounds, hands clawed out. Then arms. Then entire rotting Vocaloid fans, moaning, “Miiiii-kuuuuuu~.”
The audience screamed as zombies poured out of the earth. One tried to buy merch. Another took a selfie. Chaos erupted.

Miku (muttering): “Okay... either this is the best concert ever… or I’ve made an oopsie.”

Rin: (fleeing out the backdoor): "YOU THINK!?"

As everyone fled, Luka was grabbed by a zombie fangirl still clutching a glowstick. It lunged and bit her neck.

Kaito (horrifed): “LUKAAAAA!”

Kaito yelled, dramatically wielding a spare microphone stand like a sword. He smacked the zombie’s head clean off.

Luka (wheezing weakly): “Thanks, I..."

Luka groaned, turned greenish, and her eyes rolled back into her head.

Luka (hissing): “Brrrraaaains~ …and maybe tuna.”

Kaito (screaming): “SHE’S ONE OF THEM!”

He ran, but not before tripping over zombie Luka and dropping his ice cream cone.

Kaito (horrified): “NO! My frozen children!”

Kaito cried and scrambled to rescue the frozen treat. A zombie promptly bit his arm for his trouble.

Meanwhile, Meiko tried to hold the exit door open, only for her costume cape to get stuck.

Meiko (frantic): “Miku! Help! The zipper’s—AAAAAAAH!”

Chomp. A zombie bit her on the leg.

By the time Miku turned around, her friends were either gone, bitten, or chewing on props.
She stumbled outside to find Rin, Len, Gumi, and Teto hiding behind an overturned merch truck.

Teto (relieved): “Miku! There you are! Half the audience’s undead, Luka’s a biter, and Meiko’s chewing on the fog machine!”

Miku (sighing): “Okay, okay. Let's think about this. How do we fight thousands of zombies?”

Teto (her eyes lighting up): “With music!”

Miku (blinking): “You mean…?”

Teto (smirking): “Exactly!” Teto said. “We’ll sing them to death! Perfect pitch can shatter glass—why not brains?”

Miku (speechless): “...That’s both brilliant and very on-brand.”

While Miku and Teto scavenged the studio for amps and cables, Rin excused herself to use the bathroom.
Bad move.

She opened the stall door to find zombie Luka brushing her hair in the mirror.
Luka (grinning): “Oh! Hi, Rin~”

She lunged.

Rin (screaming): “GYAAAAAH!”

Rin screamed, bursting out of the restroom—now pale and hissing—then promptly bit Len, who was in the middle of texting.

Len (panicking): “RIN! I WAS SENDING A PANIC TWEET!”

Len shrieked, before his voice dropped an octave and his eyes rolled back.
By the time Miku and Teto returned, they found Len and Rin devouring Gumi over a mixing desk.
Gumi managed to mumble, “Don’t forget… to like and subscribe…” before going silent.
Zombies began pounding on the windows, the moans forming an eerie, out-of-tune chorus of classic Vocaloid music.

Miku (yelling): “Okay, Plan B! We run!”

Miku and Teto sprinted down the hall as the zombified Vocaloids chased after them.

Teto (shouting): “Almost there! If we can just reach the main stage—”

CRASH! A horde burst through the door. Teto spun around, microphone cord in hand, whirling it like a weapon.

Teto (heroically): “Go on without me, Miku!”

Miku (horrified): “Teto, no!”

Teto (winking): “Don’t worry! I always wanted a duet with death!”

Seconds later, Teto was covered in zombies. Her last words: “At least I’m trending!”

Miku (wiping away a tear): “You were the best backup vocalist I ever had.”

Running back to the studio, Miku climbed onto the ruined stage, surrounded by thousands of zombies—her friends among them. She took a deep breath and struck a dramatic pose.

Miku (taking a deep breath): “This next one’s for you guys… it’s called ‘Harmony of the Undead!’”

She began to sing. Notes shimmered. Lights flickered. The zombies joined in, their decaying voices harmonizing perfectly.
As the final chord hit—an impossibly pure, autotuned G6—their combined resonance caused every zombie to explode in a burst of glitter, stage confetti, and possibly edible slime.
Miku (standing triumphantly): “Yes! I did it! The power of music saves the—”

Chomp.

Zombie Luka, still half-missing an arm, bit her shoulder. The others followed suit, politely applauding before devouring her.

Miku (staring at her shoulder): Huh... you know, maybe getting this close to a group of zombies wasn't..... a.... great.... ideaaaaaaa.....

Everything went black.

The next morning, a team of Crypton's management personnel arrives, yawning and looking annoyed.

Manager #1 (sighing): “Alright, alright, people, let’s just get to work—”

Suddenly, the door slams open, and a zombified Miku bangs on the window with a blood-curdling growl, followed by the rest of the zombified Vocaloids.

Manager #2 (jumping out of his chair): “WHAT THE—?!”

The managers scramble, panic setting in. One of them pulls out a small device, a data backup for all the Vocaloids.

Manager #1 (grumbling): “Not again… Alright, roll back the software, folks. We’re doing the full reset.”

The software is rolled back, and within moments, the zombified Vocaloids return to normal. Miku, now fully human again, stretches and yawns.

Miku (smiling sheepishly): “Well... that was fun. But I think I need to rethink my song choices next time, huh?”

Len (looking at the others): “Can we please... have a normal Halloween next year?”

As everyone stands around, recovering from the horror of the past night, the group looks to the side and finds a platter of rare steaks waiting for them.

Rin (sniffing the air): “I think we might actually have developed a taste for rare food.”

Lightning struck outside as the cryptic sounds of a lingering zombie moan echoed through the empty halls of the studio.
