Notes:

This is kinda bad, I might delete this or at the very least rewrite it but I love catglass.

Also this fic will have no smut, I'm more interested in examining the social aspects of abo than anything else. Also in the universe Juliana and Yuri have decided to remain just friends before the start of the fic so we will have no infidelity in my fic.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Didn't See It Coming

Chapter Text

“You cannot be serious.” Dae said, looking at the alpha standing in front of him.

“Look, last I checked you needed money.” Yuri snapped, looking at the omega.

“I don’t understand what you could possibly gain from this,” Dae said, eying the alpha hesitantly.

“Do you want my help or not?”

“Fine.”

“Fine.”

---

The truth was that Yuri Han had a lot to gain from “dating” Dae, but he didn’t need to know that. As the sole heir to the Han family fortune, Yuri had a lot to live up to and her family had a lot on the line. Her father, a stubborn alpha, did not take the circumstances of her presentation well and made a rash decision when Yuri presented. He was going to have an alpha no matter what.

When Yuri was 12 years old, she felt a creeping sense of heat consume her body and before long she was locked away in her room. Every servant in the house that day was paid off or quietly disappeared at the command of the Han clan leader. Every record of Yuri’s true designation was wiped that day from the record and printed on every document was the designation, alpha.

Yuri Han was the perfect alpha on paper, rich, strong-willed, beautiful, and intelligent. Yet, she was hiding one crucial secret. Yuri Han was no alpha at all.

From the moment Yuri presented she had been given suppressants and scent blockers to mask her true scent. Yuri’s mother had pulled strings to make scent blockers a necessity at K.I.S.S., though suppressants were still highly illegal due to the danger they posed to the body. Yuri’s father also took initiatives to make scent blockers a requirement at the office, spearheading a movement that sought to normalize scent blockers in society as to not overwhelm individuals in day-to-day life. If you asked Yuri about it she’d roll her eyes and tell you that of course her father could make a PR opportunity out of suppressing the true identity of his daughter.

This still doesn’t explain her earlier predicament though, sitting in the principal’s office at K.I.S.S. well, more like her mother’s office. From the look on her mother’s face Yuri had deduced that this was going to be a mother-daughter conversation, not a principal-student conversation. Yay. Her favorite.

“Yuri, your father and I have received some…concerning news as of late”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about…”

“Yuri, Juliana’s housekeeper said that she saw you two scenting each other”

“She doesn’t know what she saw.” While it was true that Juliana and Yuri had been romantically involved in the past, their relationship had developed into something more familial over time once they realized that their relationship just wasn’t going to work. Juliana was attracted to alphas and once she learned that Yuri was an omega their relationship shifted. Juliana and Yuri were their own little pack and Juliana was the only person at K.I.S.S. who knew about her true designation and thus would look out for her whenever she could. Of course, her parents didn’t know this. What they saw was their omega daughter with an alpha girl.

“Yuri. Your designation coming out could be very dangerous for this family. Not to mention with a female alpha.”

“You think I don’t know that?” Yuri snapped, her entire life she had heard nonstop about the shame she could bring to their family. While Korean society heavily emphasized alpha-omega relationships, and was extremely unfriendly towards alpha-alpha relationships and omega-omega relationships, society was also still quite unaccepting of female alpha and female omega relationships as well as male alpha and male omega relationships.

“That’s why I got a boyfriend.”

“An omega?”

“Yes, an omega.”

“And why didn’t you say anything?”

“He’s…unconventional. You and daddy wouldn’t approve”

“Does he know about your designation? Who is it?”

“He doesn’t know, he thinks I’m an alpha and don’t worry, I plan to keep it that way” Ignoring the second part of her mother’s question.

“Who is this boyfriend of yours?”

“Why don’t you meet him tonight?”

While her family’s plan was always to marry her off to some rich beta male, they had no qualms about her being with an omega to keep the illusion of their family’s success alive. While obviously they had much to say about omega-omega attraction, their image was most important above all else.

With her mom placated, Yuri strutted out of her mother’s office to look for an omega, which eventually led her to Dae. As she wandered the school her mind drifted back to earlier that day, when her driver hit a girl on the streets of Seoul. A girl unlike anyone Yuri had met at K.I.S.S. before. A girl who smelled of cinnamon, sweet potato, and somehow frosting all at once. An alpha.
