NathMarc November 2025 - Day 24: Rock

Summary:

To each their own, one's trash is another's treasure. You get the idea, your tastes can be different from the ones you love, and that's perfectly normal.

Work Text:

Marc was bopping his head back and forth as the song played through the single earbud. His eyes were closed as he let the music flow from one ear through his brain to the other. He mouthed some of the words, holding up a hand in a rocker sign as the final chords played.

"So, what do you-" Marc turned and opened his eyes, wanting to see Nathaniel's reaction to the song that was played.

It was a look he'd never seen on a person before.

One of his eyes was wide open, and the other was twitching slightly. His eyebrows formed an odd wave that could probably be seen as part of a sine wave. His mouth was open slightly, with a look like he had just had a mouthful of gravy mixed with sour patch kids.

Nathaniel managed to register that Marc was talking, and quickly shook his head, trying to return his face to some semblance of normal. Although, everything would probably be considered normal after that.

"Y-yeah! It's... It's catchy," he offered as his opinion, blinking a couple of times.

Marc sighed, easily seeing through that.

"You don't like it."

"N-n... I... I don't hate it."

"Nath," Marc reached a hand up to gently stroke his hair back.
"It's okay. It's a song. You're allowed to not enjoy it."

Nathaniel looked into Marc's eyes for a couple of seconds just to make sure he could voice his opinion.

"Oh my god, that... that was a lot. I don't think I got a single word he was singing," he blurted out, taking some breaths and trying to even remember what he had just listened to.
"It was like listening to a drumset in a tumble dryer while everyone is screaming, and there's a guitar solo."

Marc laughed, knowing that to most people that was an apt description.

"I get it. Scandinavian Death Metal isn't for everyone," he scrolled through his playlist to find something else.
"Here, listen to some Miku."

Nathaniel immediately started relaxing as the familiar vocaloid song started playing.

"You certainly have interesting taste in music." He chuckled and rested his head on Marc's shoulder.
