The Greatest Victory

Summary:

Loki suffers as his husband's attention has been stolen by the most horrifying thing of all- paperwork! He must rectify this at once!

Work Text:

Loki leaned against the table, letting out a soft huff as he watched Sunday work. The Halovian had promised just five more minutes till he could give Loki attention and so he agreed to wait. In his boredom, Loki began toying with a mug, nudging it closer and closer to the edge of the table.

Sunday looked up from his paperwork for a second. "Don't drop that" he said as he reached out to give Loki some ear scritches. "Just wait another minute, alright?"

Now normally, Loki wouldn't stand for it. Being cheated out of his attention by stacks of paper? Outrageous! Unfair! However, he got ear scritches so he was purring and temporarily content with the current state of affairs.

Emphasis on temporarily. Loki waited like Sunday had asked. A whole 85 seconds (and yes he counted) which was much more than the promised minute. And so his batting at the mug grew a little more frequent till eventually he smacked it right off the table. The noise of the glass shattering caught Sunday's attention. The halovian gave Loki a slightly exasperated look. Loki just batted his eyes in mock innocence "It wasn't me! The cup did it itself."

"Ah yes. The cup... grew legs and walked off the table" Sunday said dryly. Loki nodded along with a fervour "Yes! Exactly! It jumped right off in protest of the ways in which you have been starving me for affection" that being Sunday doing his job over spending all day lazing around with Loki. "And there is absolutely no need to read my mind about it!" Though just in case, Loki filled his head with images of cups with legs falling off tables.

"But if you didn't drop it, what's wrong with me reading your mind?" Sunday replied, tilting his head slightly. "Well you see, that is because just before it sacrificed itself the cup told me that nobody would believe me! That we have been ripped apart and seperated by these oh so cruel sheets of paper for so long that you can no longer tell my truth from falsehood!" Loki feigned an overdramatic sigh, falling back in his chair "We must prove the cup wrong! You must believe me with no proof and I must get all the kisses!"

Sunday wings twitched in amusement "Is that so?" In turn Loki shapeshifted into a puppy, staring up at him with the biggest, saddest eyes he could muster. The staring contest really didn't last long before Sunday gave in. "You're absolutely right, my dear. The cup jumped off the table by itself how foolish of me to doubt you."

Loki let out a series of happy barks, tail wagging furiously as he leaped from his chair onto the table and then onto Sunday's lap, smothering the halovian's face in eager licks. Sunday laughed as Loki turned back to his humanoid form, still peppering kisses all across Sunday's face with a large grin. "Our love has defeated the paper! And the cup!" He cheered "And now all attention is mine!"
