Chapter 1: [Blending]

Chapter Text

Monomoko was growing more impatient as the days passed. The rabbit was sure the killing would've started by now; after all, eight days with no sleep was sure to drive anyone mad, but the sixteen students seemed to be taking on the challenge better than expected, which was irritating beyond belief.

“Dr. Kan, are you positive we can't enact a second motive?” Monomoko questioned the doctor at its side; the irritated tone in the rabbit's voice only served to make Kan laugh.

“Getting impatient, I see.” The response Kan gave was dry, as if he wasn't taking Monomoko seriously at all.

“I am…” Kan glanced towards Monomoko; the creature's eyes were glued on the screens, watching as the students went about life within the school, and without sleep, most were staying with groups to help each other stay awake; others were doing tasks or routines that involved their talents to keep themselves up.

He did have to admit he's surprised they've managed this long with no killing, which was humorous, as he was sure student seven was going to snap the other day when she was in the kitchen with student one.

“Alright, Monomoko, how about this—” Dr. Kan stood from his spot, stepping towards a nearby filing cabinet, sifting through its contents. Monomoko watched him curiously, its ears shooting up once he pulled out a thick blue file. “We already have the students for the next session picked, so maybe use this as a little push.”

The pair stood in silence for a moment that lasted longer than needed.

“I'm not following—” “Threats, Monomoko! Tell the pink students if they don't start killing within a set amount of time that you'll bring in the Bluedents!” Dr. Kan dropped the thick file on the table in front of Monomoko, his words coming out more theatrical than serious.

“Blue… dents?” Monomoko looked up at Dr. Kan. If the rabbit was able to express emotions on its face, it would be littered with confusion, not only at the prospect of adding the session two students but also at the ridiculous nickname Kan gave the future students. “It's what I've been calling them, but that's not the point, Monomoko.” Kan glanced at the screens, following the movements of each student carefully.

“It's an already cramped space; there has to be a few of them that won't be too happy to add more into the mix.” Monomoko watched the screens for a moment, focusing on one student in particular, student eight, who was unsurprisingly with student twelve.

“And what if no killing takes place? This plan has many ways it could go wrong, Dr. Kan.” Monomoko was ready to point out every flaw they saw with this idea, but the rabbit kept silent, watching a twisted grin spread across Kan’s face.

“Then the game will become a lot more interesting.”

A crackling noise from the speakers played throughout the school halls, stopping most students in their tracks from whatever they were doing from wherever they were spread around the school.

Kamimura groaned, sitting up from his spot in his new bed in the medbay, glaring at the speaker in the corner of the room as if his death glare could be seen or felt by the rabbit on the other side. He heard shuffling as Hasegawa turned in his chair to glance at the speaker as well.

“Hello, students. Please gather in the auditorium for a school assembly.”

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Kamimura groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“The Rabbit never mentioned an evening game… Maybe we're meeting for something else?” Hasegawa stood from his spot, offering Kamimura a hand to help him get up, which Kamimura waved off, making Hasegawa’s hand retreat to his side an almost embarrassed look painted on his face.

“It better be for something else.” Kamimura stood up. His body ached slightly, making him curse under his breath, missing the concerned look Hasegawa shot at him.

“This announcement will be followed by an alarm to ensure all students will attend our assembly.”

A loud noise akin to an ambulance siren sped up played through the speaker. The noise amplified as it bounced off the walls of the Medbay, making the shorter of the pair groan loudly as he forced himself to stomp to the door, exiting quickly, with Hasegawa following close behind with his hands pressed against his ears.

The two were quick as they made their way to the auditorium, the announcement replaying and, in turn, the alarm, but it was cut off once Kamimura pushed open the auditorium door, making it clear to him that he and Hasegawa were the last to arrive.

“Nice of you to finally show up.” Nakamigawa rolled his eyes as he spoke, crossing his arms like a child that didn't get a toy they wanted from the store. “Can you get off my ass?? We walked over as soon as the announcement started playing.” Kamimura was too tired to deal with Nakamigawa, but at the same time, he wasn't going to take his shit either.

“I'm sure, you two must be slower than I thought—” “Nakamigawa” his remark was silenced by both Sasaki and Ojima, both giving him that same disapproving look, which only got a scoff and eye roll from the brunette.

Monomoko stood on the stage in front of the students, waiting for them to settle before they began speaking. “Hello, students. I'm sure you're all curious about the nature of why I called you here—”

“I-is it another game…?” Wada stuttered out his words; he still wasn't feeling the best after decision game, but he had to ask. After all, it was the question everyone was wondering about and was hoping wasn't the reason they were called there.

“No. This isn't for a game; this is… Similar to a motive announcement—”

“Are you serious?!!” It was Watari’s turn to be loud; she slouched where she stood, whining, getting a comforting but awkward pat on the back from Okazaki, who turned to face the rabbit. “Another motive stacked onto what we have already, not to mention the revoked privileges some of us have, seems a bit unfair, no?”

Monomoko paused, staring at Okazaki leaving the room in an awkward silence broken once Monomoko hummed, tilting its head at the masked student.

“Do you see this as a problem?” Okazaki's chest tightened a bit; it almost felt like the rabbit was trying to intimidate them. It almost made Okazaki grin.

“Of course.” Okazaki spoke, making someone else in the group speak, “Hold on! We don't know what the motive is yet. What if it helps us?” Tamba’s shrill and loud voice made almost everyone in the room wince; they were running on nothing, and Tamba being loud wasn't helping.

“The motives aren't good, though; all they're there to do is mess with us.” Hama argued back with Tamba, rubbing the back of his neck with his non-demon arm, of course.

“No. Okazaki Hanano, please step forward.” The room fell into a complete silence as Okazaki was singled out by the rabbit. “I- Wh-what?” She was taken aback at the sudden call to step in front.

“Woah, no.” Hayashi stepped forward, blocking Okazaki almost protectively. “I don't know what you're getting at, but-”

“Okazaki Hanano. Step forward.” Monomoko was becoming irritated between the lack of killing, the interruptions, and now the attempt to disregard its authority, which was more than just making the rabbit become impatient.

There was a short silence before someone finally spoke. “It's okay, Okazaki… just get it over with..” Isono attempted to make Okazaki feel better, but she didn't even sound sure of herself either, but reluctantly, Okazaki stepped around Hayashi and stood in front of Monomoko. The room was tense; it felt suffocating.

“Okazaki Hanano. You believe adding another motive… onto you and your peers’ already existing motive and revoked privileges is unfair, correct?” Okazaki felt a lump forming in their throat; never in her life has anyone made her second-guess herself, and she sure wasn't going to let this rabbit do that.

She cleared her throat softly. “That is correct…” Monomoko thought for a moment before humming, “I feel inclined to agree.” Okazaki felt her shoulders relax, the whispers behind her, and small noises of celebration from Watari made Okazaki smile softly from under her mask.

“However.” Of course there was a catch.

“I cannot simply retract these without my own gain-” Sasaki grumbled something that Okazaki didn't pick up, but they did understand Sasaki was upset. “Okazaki Hanano, are you willing to take a bodily punishment so your peers’ first motive and revoked privileges will be disregarded?”

Monomoko’s ask made Okazaki stiffen at ‘bodily punishment.’ “Okazaki don't. We'll be fine-” Hayashi gripped an auditorium chair as she spoke but was cut off by someone a bit unexpected.

“Hama can't eat food, Hayashi...” Chiba spoke up from her spot beside Harada; both looked worried. “No. Don't do anything dumb, Okazaki.” Hama spoke, pointing at Okazaki as he looked at Chiba and Harada. “I told you both multiple times I could handle it.” Hama didn’t want Okazaki to punish herself for him; he wouldn't want anyone to do that for him.

“I'll take the punishment.” Okazaki flat out accepted it without a second thought, but they knew what they were doing. “Wha- No! Okazaki-” Hama tried to argue, but it fell on deaf ears.

“It's not just for you, Hama.” Okazaki tilted her head to look at the group; she smiled under her mask and turned their body to face everyone. “We're in a killing game. Despite us all saying, ‘We won't kill,’ there's always a possibility someone will, and the best time to do that is at night when everyone is in their rooms.” Okazaki looked at the medbay pair as the words slipped from her mouth.

“Wait,” Kamimura began to speak. “Are you seriously taking a punishment because I'm not allowed in the dorms?” Kamimura was surprised; he'd never expected something like this from anyone, especially Okazaki.

“I am… I don't think it's fair you got punished because you were having trouble staying awake.” That was a direct jab at Tamba and Okazaki meant for it to hurt. “Besides, I like Hasegawa and know he's going to stay with you in the medbay, so I don't want him to get hurt either.”

“That's so selfless of you, Hanano.” Yanagi praised Okazaki, blissfully unaware he was falling for whatever game she was playing. “Weeeell, I'm also doing it cause I'm really tired.” Okazaki laughed, rubbing the back of their neck. The playful confession made a few people laugh along with her.

“Okazaki! Whatever injury you get, come to me and I'll patch you up! Okay?” Tsuno smiled at Okazaki, who nodded to her.

“An injury and student aggressor are being randomly selected.” Monomoko spoke robotically, the selection music playing loudly. Sasaki bit her nails, scoffing at the mention of student aggressors being brought into the mix again.

“Okazaki Hanano, your injury will be a slash starting from your left ear, extending across your face, and ending at your right ear.” Monomoko revealed the punishment, making the students become disruptive.

“Oh my” was all Okazaki got out before others got loud.

“Are you serious?!” Watari was not thrilled at the thought of Okazaki's face, which she hasn't even seen, getting mutilated in such a way.

“That's way too far!” Isono retorted, her face resembling horror at the thought of that; it made her want to vomit.

“O-oh god-” Nakamigawa gagged, covering his mouth, ready to vomit before blood even spilled.

“Wada Masanari, please step forward and collect the item I have provided on stage to inflict Okazaki’s injury.”

“Wh-what…” The room went quiet again. Wada looked horrified. Okazaki frowned; she was really hoping someone she wouldn't have to kneel for would've been chosen.

“Wada Masanari, please step forward.”

“Y-you can't make Masa do that; choose someone else!” Tsuno wasn't happy about the selection either, but Monomoko didn't care.

“I have made very clear the rules of the game. Wada Masanari… this will be my final time repeating this. Step forward.” The rabbit demanded, making the students' blood run cold, and with that push, Wada stepped forward.

“At least we'll know what she looks like-” Nakamigawa’s comment earned him an elbow jab from Ojima.

Wada's hands trembled as he took the knife off the stage. It looked like one of the knives from the kitchen but somehow sharper. Okazaki took a deep breath, getting on one knee. “Try to make it st-straight…” Okazaki tried to hide their fear, but the slightest bit of tremble was evident in her voice.

“Okazaki Hanano, please remove your mask.”

The words made Okazaki want to vomit, but she complied, placing one hand on the front of her mask as she unclipped the strap on the back, removing the mask completely.

Wada looked at her for a moment; he swallowed, shaking. He was freaking himself out and was clearly trying to figure out what to do.

“Breathe Wada,” the comforting words were unexpected, especially since they were coming from Okazaki, who offered him a soft smile. “Think of it like cutting a pie.” Okazaki traced a finger across her face, drawing where Wada had to cut.

Wada took another breath, steadying the knife in his hand, pressing the tip against the left side of Okazaki's face near their ear, the light poke of the tip on skin making Okazaki bleed a small bit.

“This is fucked…” Hama covered Chiba and Harada’s eyes; he didn't care if both were his age. Nobody should see something like this, which is why he was keeping his eyes trained to the ground.

Wada was carefully tracing the blade across Okazaki's face, tears welling in his eyes, but he stayed focused. Okazaki winced, biting her tongue to stop from screaming, her hands shaking as she restrained herself from moving.

Nakamigawa gagged, looking away as the blood dripped down Okazaki's face. Hayashi couldn't help but wince watching it happen.

Wada pulled the knife away as he finished the cut along Okazaki's face. His breathing was fast as tears spilled from his eyes. It was only then that Okazaki let out a scream, a hand shooting up to her face, tears welling in her eyes.

“H-Hanano!—” Watari tried to go to Okazaki but was blocked by Sasaki. “Let Tsuno bandage them; you’ll only get in the way,” was all Sasaki said as Tsuno and Isono dashed past them. “B-but…”

“C-Come here, Masa.” Isono grabbed Wada’s arm, pulling him back, the knife clattering to the ground as she pulled him into a hug as Wada silently cried.

“I got you, Okazaki. Just stay awake— OKAZAKI.” Tsuno grabbed Okazaki as she fell backwards, passing out from a mixture of shock and pain. The students readied themselves for the alarm to start blaring but were met with… nothing.

Monomoko watched the chaos in front of it; its eyes lay on Okazaki's passed-out frame as Tsuno tried to stop the bleeding. Monomoko lifted its head to the students that weren't crowded around Okazaki and began to speak.

“The sleeping motive and all revoked privileges have been voided and can be disregarded; however, this means you've all agreed to take on your next motive.”

Sasaki scowled, stepping forward. “Just spit it out already so we can leave! We need to get Okazaki to the Medbay,” as Sasaki yelled, Nakamigawa gagged again, sounding close to vomiting. “Don’t look.” Ojima stood so he was blocking Nakamigawa from seeing Okazaki.

“... Very well. Tomorrow I will be delivering the sixteen students that were chosen for session two of our killing game.”

The room went quiet. Isono looked at Monomoko in disbelief. “S-sixteen other people…?” She finally managed to stutter out, squeezing Wada in her arms.

“Are you serious???” Sasaki wanted to shout more but was cut off by Tsuno. “Okay, we know the motive. Hayashi, help me take Okazaki to the Medbay, please!” She sounded desperate. Okazaki was bleeding a lot and needed to be in the medbay.

“Right.” Hayashi dashed over, being careful but quick about scooping up Okazaki. Tsuno took off towards the Medbay, Hayashi following behind her.

“Come on, Masa.” Isono took Wada's hand, dragging him with her as they followed Tsuno and Hayashi. “I'm coming too!” Watari followed, desperate to stay with her friend.

The remaining crowd stayed quiet, but Sasaki wasn't through with the rabbit. “How do you expect us to live with sixteen other people? This place is already cramped as is!”

“That is not my problem and wouldn't be your problem if someone had decided to kill beforehand,” the rabbit spoke as if it was giving a good argument, acting as if Sasaki was the idiot in this situation.

“Of course we wouldn't kill!! We aren't crazy!” Sasaki argued back, someone's voice cut through the arguing, catching Sasaki and Monomoko’s attention.

“You said… that these were ‘session two students.’” Hasegawa questioned. His tone was low, but everyone present in the auditorium heard him loud and clear.

“That is correct… It's expected you would pick that up before your peers.” Hasegawa opened his mouth to say something but paused at the obvious petty jab towards his peers. Monomoko’s comment got a scoff from Nakamigawa and a glare from Hama.

“What's that supposed to mean??” Tamba's question was met with silence as Monomoko turned to face Hasegawa.

“The following students were set to participate in session two after your sessions was estimated to end, which would've taken place at some time next year.”

Those words made the cogs turn in Hasegawa’s head. “And... how old are they?” Monomoko stared at Hasegawa for a moment, unblinking and unmoving, before it tilted its head slowly.

“Fifteen of the sixteen students are sixteen years of age; however, the final student is fifteen years of age…” That answer made Hama grit his teeth.

“Y-your kidding” was all Yanagi could get out before a thud halted the conversation. “Kamimura!!” Hasegawa crouched beside Kamimura, who just passed out.

“Shit! Is he okay?” Hama questioned, stepping forward to try and look at him, “I-I don't know.” Hasegawa pulled Kamimura onto his back as he stood. “I-I'm going to take him to the Medbay—” Ojima and Nakamigawa were quick to come to his aid. “Here, let us help.” Before anything else could be exchanged, the three were out and already rushing to the Medbay.

Another silence fell over the room…

Sasaki clenched her fists together; her body shook with rage. This creature was not only bringing more people into the already cramped area, but they were children. They all were, sure, but it was somehow worse; they were younger than them.

“We should… probably figure out… everything, I guess…” Harada tried to offer a distraction with all the chaos, and it worked in some weird way.

Sasaki lifted her head, taking a deep breath, looking towards the others. “That’s a good idea, Harada. We... need to figure out sleeping arrangements. There are only sixteen rooms, so everyone is going to need a buddy.” Sasaki began looking over who was still in the room with her.

Yanagi, Hama, Harada, Chiba, and Tamba.

“How do you suggest we partner everyone, Ms. Sasaki?” Yanagi swallowed; he was quiet during most of that display, but considering what had just happened, she didn't blame him for that.

“Let's stick with girls' room with girls and boys with boys. Does anyone have paper?” Sasaki looked towards them all, hoping one did, as she patted her pockets, to locate her pen pulling it out once she did.

“I do!” Chiba took out a paper from her own pocket, handing it to Sasaki, a weak smile on her face. “Thank you.” Sasaki softly patted Chiba’s hand as she was passed the paper, offering a smile back to the girl.

“If we're doing it by gender, theeeeen” Tamba drew out her words as she thought for a moment, “Definitely keep Hasegawa and Kamimura together; they basically were already sharing a dorm anyways before… the Medbay thing.” Tamba rubbed the back of her neck, a guilty face on Sasaki nodded, writing that down, but she already knew that was going to be the conclusion for those two.

“Then do the same for Ojima and Nakamigawa; they're also basically sharing a dorm,” Harada added, getting a nod from Hama, who stood firmly next to him.

“Okay, keep going with boy pairs so we can get you all out of the way.” Sasaki wrote down the other pair quickly. “I can room with Wada, so Hama and Harada can pair.” “Fine by me.” Hama agreed with the arrangement as Yanagi offered to stay with Wada.

“Alright now… girls.” Before Sasaki could speak more, Chiba jumped in her spot. “Watari and Okazaki, Isono and Tsuno, Tamba and Hayashi, and me with you, Mimi!” Chiba shouted out as if she had already thought of the pairings further in advance, but Sasaki wasn't going to argue with the many pairings; they made sense after all.

“Perfect! Everyone is paired up then…” Sasaki finished writing before looking at the paper, humming, and looking at the small group in the auditorium. “Tamba, Yanagi, since your room buddies aren't here, I'm tasking you both with informing the others.” Sasaki handed the paper to Yanagi, who nodded. “Right! Come on, prince boy!” Tamba grabbed Yanagi’s wrist and bolted out of the auditorium door, practically dragging him behind her.

“Okay… Now since our partners are here, we can start moving our stuff into each other's dorms. Chiba Are you alright moving your stuff into my room? I'll help you, of course.” Sasaki looked down at Chiba as she asked and got a smile and nod from the blond.

Hama patted Harada’s shoulders, getting Harada's attention as he had zoned out for a bit. “I'll move into yours. I don't know if Sawa would be weird with moving to a new room and stuff.” Harada chuckled softly and nodded. “Right.”

Monomoko watched the four students leave the auditorium to enter ‘the moving day,’ phase as Chiba declared it, disappearing shortly after being left alone with an annoying ring in its ear they had to deal with…

Sasaki only had one thing on her mind as she followed behind Chibi, she was just hoping everything was going alright in the medbay…

Tsuno finished wrapping Okazaki's face, sighing softly. She looked around the room at the others around her. Kamimura was lying in the bed next to Okazaki, Hasegawa had pulled a chair to his bedside to stay close, Ojima and Nakamigawa were in the corner chatting, Wada still clung onto Isono, still shaken by everything, Hayashi just walked back in after cleaning Okazaki's blood off her, and Watari was sitting on the other side of Okazaki's bed holding their hand softly.

She needed to try and lighten the mood and saw the perfect opportunity. “Hasegawa, are these books yours?” Tsuno picked up a heavy book she spotted on the bedside table. Hasegawa looked up towards Tsuno; others' eyes followed curiously.

“U-um, yeah...” Hasegawa looked down, a bit embarrassed. Tsuno opened the book and gasped, “Wow! There are so many sticky notes in here, and your writing is so small!” She giggled softly, holding the book in a way so Watari could see as she noticed her trying to peek in.

“I-I-” Hasegawa was getting a bit flustered; he took detailed notes on a lot of things, so he had to write small. Besides, he could read it, so that's all that really mattered. “What do you even do that you need to study so much for? I swear every time I see you, you’re always nose deep in a book,” Hayashi commented as she was going through a different one of Hasegawa’s books that nobody even noticed she had picked up.

“I-” “He goes on quiz shows and gives them a run for their damn money, that's what.” Kamimura had woken up; he still sounded a bit groggy, but he wanted to embarrass Ken, so he took that opportunity to do so.

“Really? Are you famous?” Isono questioned, giggling a bit, “N-No, thankfully.” Hasegawa scratched the back of his neck. “I think we'd know him if he WAS famous.” Nakamigawa commented, rolling his eyes,

“Well, you’re famous, and we didn’t know you sooo.” Kamimura commented, making Nakamigawa gasp dramatically, a huge frown making its way to his face, though the comment made Hayashi, Hasegawa, and Ojima laugh.

Kamimura groaned softly, sitting up (with some help from Hasegawa), holding his head uncomfortably. “You do that and still go to school? That's impressive, Hasegawa!” Tsuno boasted, smiling at Hasegawa. “Why do you do it? Are your folks short on money?” Ojima questioned ignoring Nakamigawa’s whining next to him.

“U-Uh, well…” Hasegawa got quiet for a moment, taking a breath. “My mom's in hospice, and in my area I'm not… um… allowed to work, so going on the shows is my household's main income…”

“Allowed? Are you a criminal or something?” Nakamigawa teased but whined when Ojima elbowed him in his side. “A-ah, no, um, I'm autistic… So... most places in my area won't hire me." The room got quiet for a moment.

“You're autistic?” Hayashi questioned; she was surprised at the revelation but started getting pissed at what else was also revealed: “Wait, people won't hire you just because you have autism? Are you joking?”

“I'm not… There's still a lot of stigma over it…” Hasegawa avoided eye contact with the others. “Wh-what about your dad…?” Wada spoke up with his own question, but that question made Hasegawa tense up. “He… Helps when he can, my parents aren't together and he has… his own life, a girlfriend, and a baby on the way s-so… yeah…”

The room felt like an aquarium, and everyone was drowning in the thick water of concern and anger; they were all sad or pissed for Hasegawa.

“That's not right!” Tsuno stood up, her fist clenched. “Just because you have autism doesn't mean you can be treated like that!” Tsuno was getting heated, and everyone saw it.

“I mean, she has a point; none of us even knew you were autistic until now.” Nakamigawa spoke up, leaning against the wall behind him, crossing his arms. “Can't you just lie about it?”

“No… um… because…” Hasegawa was struggling to find his words; he flinched a bit, feeling Kamimura’s hand on his shoulder. “You don't have to talk about it… We can talk about something else…” Kamimura spoke softly to Ken, offering comfort. Hasegawa nodded, wanting to change topics.

It was good timing as Tamba and Yanagi came in. “Hey! We got news.” Tamba stood like she was an authority ready to deal with some juveniles. “Sasaki decided since we're having more people join us, it'd be best for us to pair up and room together so they have a place to stay.”

“What? I'm not rooming with some random-" “You aren't!” Yanagi cut off Nakamigawa before he could continue any further. “Sasaki, Chiba, Hama, Harada, Tamba, and Myself paired everyone with people we thought you would be most comfortable with, so Nakamigawa, you’re going to be with Ojima, not some 'random person.'”

Nakamigawa stayed quiet for a moment, crossing his arms and looking away, embarrassed. “That’s fine, I guess…” Tamba pulled out the list to share the pairs. “Okay, so besides Nakamigawa and Omjia. Kamimura, you’re with Hasegawa.” “Figured as much.” Kamimura poked Hasegawa’s cheek, making the taller smile a bit.

“Tsuno and Isono are together.” Tamba looked at the two girls. Tsuno gave a smile and nod. “Who is Masa with?” Isono questioned holding onto Wada as if someone was going to take him from her. “Ah! Masanari is actually going to be partnered with me. I hope that isn't a problem at all.” Yanagi spoke, offering Isono a bit of comfort: “No, that's fine…” Wada spoke up timidly as Yanagi nodded, giving him a smile.

“Uh- Okazaki is with Watari…” Tamba looked at Watari and then at Okazaki with a worried expression. “Alright, I’ll steal her key and move in.” Watari joked, squeezing Okazaki's hand carefully.

“Right! And-” Tamba looked at Hayashi, who just nodded understanding they were paired together. “Awesome!” “Sasaki suggested we all work on moving our stuff before the day’s end, so for those of you not resting, you should get that out of the way.” Yanagi smiled, looking towards Wada, who nodded, standing once Isono let him go.

“Come on, Hayashi!” Tamba was practically dragging Hayashi out of the room. “I'm following; calm down.” Yanagi and Wada left together following the girls. Nakamigawa groaned following as Ojima began walking out, the brunette complaining the whole way out.

“Can I have your key?” Hasegawa tilted his head at Kamimura, getting a weird look from the shorter “I'm not letting you move your stuff by yourself.” Kamimura complained back, getting a look from Hasegawa.

“Most of my stuff is already in your room, Kamimura. I only have a few things to move, and that's counting the stuff in here… I want you to rest just a tiny bit longer… please.” Hasegawa looked like a kicked puppy. Kamimura couldn't stand that look.

“Fine… But I'm not happy about it.” He begrudgingly gave Hasegawa his key. “You can yell at me later.” Hasegawa smiled softly, standing up and gathering the few books in the medbay before leaving, also leaving behind a few books he wasn't able to carry with him.

Isono watched the exchange between Kamimura and Hasegawa and couldn't help but smile at it. (She loved a good blossoming romance.) She stood up, going to Tsuno, tapping her shoulder. The superhero turned swiftly, offering a smile to Isono, who was smiling back at her.

“Ready to help me move in, bunk buddy?” Tsuno giggled at the silly nickname and nodded. “Yeah, I'm ready.” Watari stood up, Okazaki's key in hand. “I'm going to get a start on moving too.” Tsuno smiled at Watari before glancing back at Kamimura.

“Kamimura, are you going to be okay alone?” She questioned getting a thumbs up from the boy, which made her smile. Soon after, the three girls left the Medbay, chatting between themselves.

Kamimura didn't really pay attention to their conversation as they left and just let out a huff of air as he laid back down; his head was absolutely killing him…

Chapter Text

“MONOMOKO!!!!” Dr. Yonekura shouted in her office, gripping the side of her desk as she stood seething. Why the hell would Monomoko do this? Voiding the motive and revoked privileges was one thing, but telling the sessions' one students about the existence of session two and its students was a completely opposite problem. Not to mention the rabbit already deciding to add them in without consulting her first only stood to make her more pissed.

“Yes?-” Monomoko appeared on the floor next to Dr. Yonekura’s desk, disappearing as the doctor chucked a stapler at it, only to reappear swiftly on her desk. “I see you are upset.”

“Upset?? I. Am. Fuming!! Why in the world would you do that?!!” Haruka yelled at the rabbit, getting dangerously close to its face, but the creature didn't flinch. “The idea was posed by Dr. Kan.”

“No!” Dr. Yonekura shouted again, throwing her arms in the air dramatically. “You don't take orders from Kan; you take them from ME.” Monomoko stared at Haruka; the doctor's anger grew on her face more than the rabbit believed possible for a human being.

“Correction. I take suggestions from you. Despite what you believe, Dr. Yonekura, this experiment is only possible because of my abilities. I do not care for your input, Doctor; I only care about making this game interesting.”

Monomoko's words came out with full and direct disregard of Dr. Yonekura’s authority, making the woman clench her fist and gritted her teeth. “You—”

“If you lay a hand on me, I will harm you, Haruka...”

The air in the room shifted; the tension was heavy as they both stared at each other for a moment. Dr. Yonekura bit her tongue, wanting to shout back or simply retort back, but ultimately decided against it. “Fine. Begin collecting the session two students, and I'll ready Seki for interviews.” Haruka crossed her arms, glaring at Monomoko, earning a nod from the rabbit before it swiftly disappeared.

This was becoming annoying.

Breakfast was quiet, as the students were on edge waiting for the rabbit to appear or play an announcement for them to gather in the auditorium, but they were met with silence.

“To those of you that moved rooms, are you positive that they are COMPLETELY empty?” Sasaki spoke up, breaking the silence, looking at her peers. Tamba hummed, swallowing the food in her mouth. “I checked! The rooms for the new people are a million percent empty!” She lifted her fork up like it was a sword as she spoke. Hayashi nodded next to her. “Can confirm” was all the taller woman said before taking a bite of her food.

“Perfect…” Sasaki sighed, tapping her finger on the table. She was nervous not only at the prospect of the new people but more so at their reactions to a killing game.

“Hello students.” Monomoko appeared at the end of the table, making most of the students yelp, jump, or curse at its appearance.

“Stop doing that…” Ojima groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose, shaking Nakamigawa off his arm, as the brunette had clung to him once the rabbit appeared.

“I apologize, but I wanted to skip the pleasantries and explain how your new classmates will be delivered and how you'll all be sorted.” Monomoko paused, waiting for someone to speak up or shout, but nodded when it was met with nothing. “In regard to the number arrangements, you all will remain with your already existing numbers.”

“Numbers?…” Hasegawa spoke up, catching Monomoko off guard slightly. The rabbit paused, watching the confusion spread across the faces of the students, making the rabbit’s ear twitch. “Ah, I suppose you aren't familiar with our numbering system… that will not be a problem.”

White and pink striped wristbands appeared in front of the sixteen students, all fashioning a number on it, one through sixteen. “You are all in group pink and will be referred to as Student 1P, Student 2P, and so on and so forth.”

Kamimura picked up the wristband as Monomoko spoke, looking at the bolded four on his band. “So you just want us to wear these stupid things the rest of the game?” He questioned, glancing up at Monomoko, who nodded.

“That is correct.”

Nakamigawa groaned, “Great! Now I have to wear clothes to match with this STUPID wristband,” he whined. Ojima already clasped the band around his wrist, rolling his eyes at Nagawa’s whining.

“Or you can just wear something with long sleeves.” Wada suggested fastening his own band to his wrist, showing off his suggestion to Nagawa by pulling his own sleeve over his band, hiding it from sight, which earned a thoughtful look from the brunette.

“I think it's cute!” Tsuno tried to lighten the mood, which made Isono laugh. “Your whole outfit is already pink and white anyways, so of course you think it's cute!” She joked, nudging Tsuno softly.

“I'm happy most of you are satisfied with the wristbands.” Monomoko watched the remaining students put their bands on before continuing, “Of course the other students in group two will have similar wristbands; however, they will be black and blue instead of pink and white.”

“Lame,” Hayashi said plainly. Hama agreed, “Pinks more badass!” His comment made Chiba giggle and Harada smile; Monomoko looked between the three before continuing.

“I took notice of you all pairing up to share dorms… I took the liberty to change the nameplates on the dorms to spare anyone from confusion, but… I would've rathered you stay in your already assigned rooms and just share with your numbered counterparts.” Monomoko’s ear twitched, hearing a scoff from Kamimura; their eyes met before he spoke.

“As if I'd rather drop dead than have some random weirdo touching my shit. I'd rather a Hasegawa weirdo than a random freak.” Kamimura's words gained a nod from Hiroaki. “I have the same sentiment but for Takeshi!”

“Wooooow—” “Okay… Fuck you too.” The overlapping responses from Hasegawa and Omjia got a few laughs from the other students.

Monomoko stared for a few moments before speaking up.

“The Blue Students will be filled in on the rules, the nature of the killing game, and your group’s existence. Afterwards they will be given a short period of time to process that information before being delivered to the auditorium. I will call a school assembly so you can all be present to assist them as needed.”

“And Okazaki?…” Watari spoke up, tapping her spoon on the table lightly. It was only then Monomoko noticed the absence of the fox-mask-wearing girl. “Does she have to be there? She hasn't woken up yet, so... unless you're able to do something to get her up—”

“Okazaki will not be expected to join the assembly.”

Yanagi wanted to say something but kept it to himself as Watari just nodded at the answer, knowing that the rabbit wouldn't be any more helpful than this.

“If there are no further questions, I will be taking my leave.” Monomoko took a short pause to give anyone the opportunity to speak but disappeared when the students stayed quiet.

“What do you think they'll be like?” Chiba laid her chin on the table, arms stretched out as she patted the table. “They'll probably be scared…” Wada answered the shorter one, who was nervous for the new group's arrival, “Which is why we have to be there and help them out!” Tsuno stood up determined. Yanagi nodded along with her words.

“We should probably be ready in the auditorium then, right?” Tamba suggested getting a smile and eager nod from the superhero: “That's right!”

“And what do we do if one of them freaks and attacks someone?” Nagawa brought up a fair point, but Hayashi just shook her head. “Then I’LL restrain them till their ass calms down.” Her response just made Nakamigawa shrug; it was good enough for him.

The group began filtering out of the dining room, Tsuno declaring that she'd clean up once they made their new companions comfortable, at least as comfortable as they could be made.

“You coming, Watari?” Tamba paused for a second when she noticed Watari splitting off from the group, getting a wave from the fire dancer. "I'm going to check on Hanano real fast; it'll take just a sec! I'll be right behind ya!~” Watari smiled at Tamba, winking at her playfully.

“If you say so…” Tamba smirked at Watari’s antics, turning to jog after the others quickly.

Watari pushed open the auditorium door, sighing softly as she walked in, standing next to Hayashi, getting a glance from the taller as she did so.

“Where is that rabbit?!” Sasaki tapped her foot impatiently. “It's already been close to thirty minutes.” “Maybe it got lost?” Chiba’s solution was unlikely, but it was the thought that counted.

“Ah. You’re all already here.”

There it was, appearing on stage, making the surrounding room go quiet, that silence being broken as someone cleared their throat. “The new students, Ms. Monomoko?” Yanagi's prince act stayed true even towards the rabbit, which was questionable, to say the least.

“Eager, I see,” was all Monomoko said before pausing before the sudden appearance of sixteen other students shook the room; most toppled to the floor in groups or alone, groaning and heads spinning at the sudden teleportation.

“Fucccck, can you get off me, dude...?” Akiba groaned, and a girl quickly jumped off him. “Ah! Sorry!” Denden frantically apologized to him, which wasn't helping his head in that moment.

“Ah! Authentic Japanese teleportation!” Tsukigata happily chirped, yelping as a girl sat up, tugging on his hair. “Nothing about that was authentic or Japanese! Teleportation is fictional,” Nishiguchi barked at the poor Belgian. “Then explain how it just happened, genius…” Ikeda grumbled, holding his head and pushing himself to stand.

Tsuno went to Ikeda, grabbing him as he stumbled, almost falling. “Easy—” He tugged himself away from her, giving her the stink eye, but she didn't move from his side, instead hovering her hands around him in case he fell.

“YOU!!!” Ogura loudly yelled, jumping to her feet, pointing at Monomoko. “YOU DEMON!!!” She dashed forward, going to grab it before it disappeared, making her groan.

“A-Are you okay?” Hasegawa helped Tei sit up; he looked pale and ready to vomit. Kamimura crouched beside the two, his hand on Tei's back. “Take a breather…”

“Is everyone okay?!” Yokoi jumped to her feet, shaking off the head-spinning-ness just as quickly as it came. “Ruka, tone it down a bit, jeez.” Ninomiya rubbed his aching head as he sat up. Yokoi gasped, covering her mouth. “R-right, sorry!”

The rabbit appeared again in the center of the commotion again, far away from Ogura. “Hello, Group Blue, welcome to your new home for the foreseeable future. I hope Group Pink welcomes you all nicely and gets you comfortable within this new environment.”

As the Rabbit spoke, Ojima and Nakamigawa were focused on helping the students with their same numbers to their feet. “Here,” Nakamigawa pulled a shorter boy to his feet; his white hair had caught Nagawa’s attention.

“Th-thank you.” Nakamigawa gasped dramatically as Shishikura spoke, startling the poor boy. “Takeshi!! He has an accent!!!” He seemed almost entertained by the revelation, which only served to confuse the shorter.

“Nakamigawa.” Ojima groaned at Nakamigawa’s actions, treating Shishikura like an exhibit and not an actual human, but turned back to his own number counterpart. “You okay?”

“Yes, thank you.” As Yaitabashi spoke, Omjia’s face shifted to confusion, then surprise. “oh!- you're a guy. I'm sorry I—” Yaitabashi just laughed, waving his hands. “No, no! It's okay, I get it!”

“Hiroaki??” A voice unfamiliar to the Pink students cut through the chaos, catching the attention of those around. A boy with long black hair stood looking at Nakamigawa.

Hiroaki paused, squinting at Hirose, before the realization spread across his face. “Holy shit—SHINGO?!?!” Hiroaki shouted, and Shishikura flinched away from him, covering his ears as Nagawa practically yelled into them.

“Wait, you two know each other?” Denden spoke up, hopping over to Hirose's side and curiously looking over the surgeon's shoulder. “I’m friends with his boyfriend—” “Ex-boyfriend—” Hirose corrected Hiroaki, stunning him for half a second, “Wait, huh? You two—actually, whatever! YOU!!” Hiroaki pointed aggressively at Monomoko. “ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW???”

“Nakamigawa—” Yanagi tried to calm down Hiroaki, but the designer wasn't having any of it. “Shut up, Shigeki!!” Hiroaki pointed aggressively at Monomoko. “Why the HELL would you put him in here???”

“Because of his connection to you…” Monomoko spoke stunning Hiroaki into silence, his fists clenched. “What...?”

Monomoko stayed silent; the whole room stayed quiet. How were they supposed to comprehend that? What the hell did that mean?? “Medications and insulin have been delivered to the medical bay for the students that need them…”

“Are you fuckin serious? You put someone who's diabetic in here??” Hama sounded irritated; having someone diabetic wasn't the greatest for the group, knowing they could get water and food privileges revoked from them. “Which one of you is diabetic?” Sasaki’s words came out more harsh than she meant; after all, she was mad at the rabbit, not whoever the person was that was dragged into this situation.

“Uhhhh…” Ninomiya raised his hand slightly. Sasaki snapped her head towards him. She looked surprised. She wasn't exactly expecting him to be so forward about it but was thankful for it either way. “Okay. Thank you!-”

“Great job giving people a way to kill you~” Ikeda chirped, getting multiple eyes on him after that comment he had made so tauntingly it was unnerving to the Pink Students.

“Hey man…” Ninomiya put a hand on his hip and pointed towards Ikeda. “You kill me, I’m seriously going to be pissed, dude! I'm gonna haunt you and knock your stuff over,” he spoke playfully, as if Ikeda didn't basically just threaten him. Chiba giggled at Ninomiya's words.

“Um... that aside, if you have medication of any sort, you should be taken to the Medbay now to get those. Tsuno, can you take those students there?” Sasaki put her hands together, looking towards Tsuno, who nodded.

“Right! Those of you that need to collect medication, follow me!” Tsuno lifted her hand so the new people knew who to follow. “Take Shingo with you; he’s a surgeon…” Hiroaki spoke up, glancing at Hirose, who nodded.

The room went quiet.

“You're a surgeon??” Tsuno tilted her head at Hirose. “I am, yes…” “Certified and everything??” She questioned again, getting a nod from the younger; her eyes lit up shortly after. “That's awesome!! We definitely need someone like you here! Okay, follow me!!” Tsuno turned on her heel, marching off towards the Medbay with Hirose, Ninomiya, and Shishikura following close behind her.

Watari didn't say much, just gave the others finger guns as she followed after those going to the Medbay, probably to check on Okazaki again.

“Shingo!” Hiroaki called after him for a moment, stopping Hirose in his tracks. He looked back at Hiroaki, raising an eyebrow. “Come find me when you're done…” Hiroaki’s demeanor was a lot softer with Hirose; it was surprising to see to the pink students as they became accustomed to his brazen attitude.

Hirose gave him a nod, turning back to follow Tsuno.

Hayashi stepped forward. “Okay. Since Watari and Tsuno left, here's how this is gonna happen: if there's a place you KNOW you're going to be useful at, you'll raise your hand, and then two people from our group will take you there." Sasaki watched Hayashi take the lead, nodding along with her words; it was a good idea after all.

“Okay, Kitchen.” Hayashi watched two hands immediately shoot up. Nishiguchi and Tei, “You both cook?” Tei simply nodded. “I work at my dad's pizza place, so yeah.” Nishiguchi placed her hand on her hips proudly as she spoke. Hayashi just nodded. “Okay, Yanagi and Isono will take you there.”

Yanagi lifted his non-injured hand, offering the two a soft smile. “Right this way.” Isono happily hopped over to Yanagi's side, smiling as well as they left. Hayashi spoke once more. “Pause. There's a list on the fridge; it has our group's allergies on it. Once you're done exploring, you two will go get the allergies of your group down, got it?” Hayashi’s words came out more as an order than a suggestion, but it earned nods from Tei and Nishiguchi.

Hayashi turned back once the kitchen group left, glancing over those that were left. “Storage I'm sure your group got PJs and bedding in there; a few of you are probably going to have to grab those.”

“I can!” Yokoi’s hand shot up. “Me too!” Denden smiled happily, lifting her arm up and waving it happily. “Guess I can help with that too.” Akiba reluctantly lifted his hand up next to him. Ogura grumbled, lifting her hand up as well. “Perfect, what is that, five of you? Hama, Hasegawa, and… Kamimura, I guess, will take you.” Hayashi added Kamimura into the mix getting an eye roll from the shorter, who reluctantly follows the group out, with Hama leading the way.

Hayashi racked her brain on what else she could send these kids off to do and snapped her fingers once, remembering the Landry room. “Landry. There are a lot of you, so we'll need a lot of hands with that.”

Two hands shot up, almost mirroring Nishiguchi and Tei from earlier, Isoda and Yaitabashi. “Just you two?” Hayashi scanned over the remainder of group Blue but sighed, “Ojima, Nakamigawa, and Wada, take em.” Nakamigawa groaned dramatically but led the two blues out anyway. Ojima followed, sighing at Nakamigawa's attitude. Wada nervously picked at his nails, following behind the group, not far behind Ojima.

“Okay, there's only five of you… got anything you THINK you can help with?” Hayashi spoke, a bit annoyed; she was starting to understand why Sasaki got so irritated easily. She grumbled, hearing Sasaki giggle next to her.

“Umm.” Hayashi looked towards Tsukigata; he was trying to think about how to help. Snapping once, he thought of something. “I can help get rid of trash?” His accent was thick as hell, which took Hayashi aback. “I can help with that if it's an option. I try to stay away from stuff involving water.” As Maekawa spoke, she lifted her arms; her sleeves slid down a bit, showing off her prosthetics.

“Woooooah!!” Chiba stared at Maekawa's arms; she will admit she was staring at her leg before, which was probably rude. Hayashi nodded, understanding now why she was being so quiet. “Okay, fair enough. That's worrying but fair.”

Hayashi cleared her throat. “Chiba and Harada can show you two where the incinerator is and explain how our waste system works.”

Chiba cheered, running towards the door. Harada gestured softly for Tsukigata and Maekawa to follow, which the two did happily.

“Okay… now for you three…” Hayashi thought for a moment. “I don't have a clue, Sasaki. Do you have anything?” Hayashi glanced at Sasaki, who thought for a moment before shrugging. Hayashi sighed, looking at Tamba. “Tamba?”

“Well… we can probably show them the dorms?” As Tamba spoke, the three girls' heads looked towards the auditorium doors as someone left; they quickly looked back where the three blues were standing. Now only two stood.

“Uuuuh… I don't think he was allowed to do that…” Ouno tilted her head to look at the door, touching the tip of her finger to her bottom lip as she spoke. Kumada just groaned, rolling her eyes.

“Great.” Hayashi grumbled, “Sasaki, Tamba, take them to the dorms; I'll go after him.” “Got it!” Tamba saluted Hayashi as she walked out, Sasaki nodding her head softly.

Hayashi pushed the auditorium doors open, glancing around a moment before picking a random direction to find where the hell Ikeda ran off to.
