Chapter Text

Movie Night: Part 1

Geonwoo’s POV:
Night; 10:30
Autumn

Geonwoo felt the icy water of the shower rushing down his body. He stood there frozen, haunted by the memories of him and Sangwon.
Had he not been so rigid and cold maybe, just maybe… things would be different.

Now Geonwoo was forced to see him everyday. Geonwoo was initially optimistic. they spoke a bit during the survival show but now, Sangwon seems more reserved than ever before. After the debut group announcement, Sangwon suddenly went catatonic, as though they had never spoken, ever. Sangwon quickly dissolved any lingering he had left.

Maybe Geonwoo had truly lost his chance now.

*Knock* *Knock*

“Geonwoo-hyung!! Are you almost done?”

Geonwoo woke from his dazed state. He heard the voice of his roommate.

“Almost Sanghyeon-ah!”

Geonwoo quickly washed up, trying to clean off his sorrow and any remaining feelings that he had for his coworker. he knew that the only thing that washed away was the possibility of getting over him. The water had felt colder somehow.

Geonwoo got out of the bathroom after finishing his nighttime routine, wearing his pjs. He was greeted with his friend’s smiling.

“Geonwoo-hyung!”

“Hi Sanghyeon-ah! I haven’t seen you all day.”

“I went to visit Liyu-hyung but i’m back now! It was fun!”

“I’m glad to hear it!”

“Also, do you know about the movie night, tonight?”

“Really? i didn’t.”

“Oh! well Leo-hyung thought it would be a good idea to have movie nights to help us bond!”

Movie night… it reminded Geonwoo of how he and Sangwon used to have those. Although, He was more focused on the fact that he was sitting next to Sangwon and feeling the warmth of his hand. That laugh too, the sound of Sangwon’s laugh was the most adorable thing Geonwoo heard in his entire life.

“When is it?”

“In about 20 minutes. some of the others are busy setting up for it.”

“Who’s there setting up?”

“Junseo-hyung, Sangwon-hyung and Leo-hyung. They seem to be managing but I need to shower.”

“Yes, please. I don’t want our room to smell.”

“Hey!”

“Kidding!”

“You should go help them Geonwoo-hyung! if you have a second to spare that is!”

A chance to be next to Sangwon. Geonwoo would be a fool to turn that chance down.

“Sure. I will. See you in a bit.”

“Okay! Later Geonwoo-hyung!”

An excuse to interact… It could be a good ice breaker for the two. Geonwoo had to take the chance.

Geonwoo left his and Sanghyeon’s room, ready to brave any fears he had. He swallowed, trying to rid his mind of any anxiety.

As Geonwoo approached the kitchen, he could hear the familiar laugh of Sangwon. It was just as great as the first time he heard it.

Geonwoo found the three boys working on the snacks. On the white island counter, bowls and plates filled with treats to enjoy. Junseo was hard at work, working on icing the cookies. Leo and Sangwon playing around with the icing, laughing.

“Hey! Need any help?”

Geonwoo’s sudden announcement clearly startled the three boys. Junseo had accidentally shot a blob of orange icing onto one of the cookies in response to the abrupt sound of Geonwoo’s voice. Leo and Sangwon quickly looked to Geonwoo as if they were doing something they were not supposed to. As they did, Leo dropped a spoon with icing on it. This was the most funny thing to Sangwon. Geonwoo could see something on Sangwon’s nose, it was a bright orange.

“ah! Geonwoo-ah! Hello! We were not expecting anymore people to be here ready yet! Also don’t mind the mess.”

Sangwon giggled at the leader’s words about the state of the kitchen. It definitely had seen better days. It was as if a bomb of flour exploded and coated the area in a powder.

Noticeable, Sangwon didn’t say anything. Geonwoo noticed immediately. He did his best to hide his disappointment by this fact.

“Ah, Geonwoo, why don’t you help Junseo? He needs to some help there.”

“Alright.”

Junseo carefully explained to Geonwoo what he was meant to do. Geonwoo listened trying to not get distracted by the laughter from behind him.

Geonwoo had successfully iced 15 cookies. As he was about to complete another, he ran out of icing. Leo and Sangwon had a bowl of icing as they had made some more. Geonwoo wasn’t exactly keen on asking them though. He wasn’t sure how Sangwon would respond.

“Hey, Junseo-hyung could you-“

“Junseo-hyung! I need you to help me move the couch so everyone has space and can see the TV.”

“Sure, Leo-ah!”

“HEY! Why can’t i help?”

“Sangwon, you need not worry. We need you to wait for the popcorn and continue decorating the cookies. i don’t want you to ruin your delicate hands.”

“Delicate…?”

Geonwoo watched as Leo smirked after he got a pink colour to form on Sangwon’s face.

It was a joke that seemed normal but Geonwoo felt jealous. He wanted to be one to make Sangwon blush.

Leo and Junseo left. He walked over to Sangwon. The cookies weren’t going to ice themselves and maybe he could get to work with Sangwon.

“Sangwon, may i please have some of the icing?”

“You can take the bowl. I am leaving now anyway.”

“Thanks.”

Geonwoo expected more but he didn’t back down from a challenge. He thought he should try small talk.

“So… where are you going?”

“My room.”

“Aren’t you meant to stay here for the popcorn? Also why not stay and help me with the cookies?”

“No thanks.”

“Come on… there are only a few left. it will be, i promise.”

Sangwon looked at Geonwoo. Geonwoo wasn’t going to fold under pressure. He remained confident. He looked into Sangwon’s eyes. That’s when he saw it. I look that felt too complicated for a single word. The same look that Sangwon gave him back then when before it ended. It felt intense but almost melancholic.

“Geonwoo-hyung, just stop. you and i both know it would better if i left.”

“But…”

“Please Geonwoo-hyung, just let me go to my room.”

“Okay. I’ll see yo-“

Before Geonwoo could finish his sentence, Sangwon walked away. That couldn’t have gone worse. Geonwoo felt defeated. Had he really lost his chance with Sangwon?

His heart sank as he watched Sangwon walk back to his room. The sound of microwave brought him back to reality. The beeping filled the kitchen.

No matter how much his heart beated for Sangwon currently, it wasn’t enough to bring them back together. So much for small talk…
