Summary
It pisses Steve off that Jonathan seems to want nothing to do with being an alpha, would rather waste his luck by curling into himself and making himself small. It pisses Steve off that Jonathan can spout off loftily about “literary theory” and “death of the author” like any of that means he isn’t stuck in the same grimy junkyard and suffocating town as everybody else. It pissed Steve off how easily Jonathan took him down in the alley the second he got angry, really angry. Steve hated the full broad weight of him and how his copper scent smelled like blood, how he hadn't stopped snarling and showing his teeth even when the police came. You could forget he was an alpha or forget he existed at all until he goes and does something like that.
But that — that’s what's interesting about Byers, too. That he has something like that in him and Steve would have never known.After Starcourt, Steve tells Robin a series of confessions: without meaning to, he had gotten to know Jonathan Byers. Considering that Jonathan Byers still thinks Steve is a beta, it’s harder to let Jonathan get to know him.
