[ONESHOT] Shared Patterns

Summary:

Minnie encourages Chrono to give Kizashi a gift.

Notes:

This is purely a wish fulfillment fic, and I thought it was going to be a small, drabble sized thing, but it turned out quite a bit longer. Also, it's not my best work, and maybe I'll give it edits or a rewrite later, but I just wanted to put something small out so the idea wouldn't weigh down on me going into the new year lol.

I would love to say I'm going to keep posting ChronoZashi/ChronoBomb until the tags become canonized, but I don't know how much juice I have left until the next chapter with the two of them comes out. The other ideas I have are smut/gore fics and those tend to take me much longer than these little fluff pieces, so I won't have anything new for them for a while. Probably a relief for people watching the tag hoping for the more popular ships/topics, haha.

As usual, I'm using they/them/theirs, and he/him/his interchangably for Chrono and Kizashi! Please let me know if anything is unclear!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Chrono ran his fingertips over the cloth in his hands nervously. He didn't often get nervous unless it was a life or death situation, or when it came to Minnie… Did that mean this was the same as one of those…? They supposed it could be. From the last he heard, Kizashi hadn't taken too kindly to the way Ichi and his friends wrapped up things in the Pendulum Sea. While the octobomb majik had been happy to be in Ichi's magic circle with Uroro, overall, he was quite upset about being defeated and acquired.

"Kizashi's really upset that they lost you to Minnie. Most of the time they seem pretty happy, but there's a lot of moments where they'll hide away and sulk," Ichi had explained when Chrono checked in one day.

He wasn't entirely sure why he hated the idea of Kizashi being sad so much. But he'd brought it up to Minnie, and she'd come up with this idea so… It didn't hurt to try.

Ichi allowed Kizashi out for a little while for Chrono to meet with them like this, and he found them sitting quietly on a bunch of pillows, forming little fish with their bomb attacks and making small, colorful explosions with them.

"… Kizashi?" Chrono said hesitantly.

Kizashi quickly perked up, whirling around with that giant, manic grin on his face.

"Best buddy?" Kizashi's voice squeaked from how excited they were.

"Chrono!" They cheered as they launched themself at him with a small explosion.

Chrono quickly dropped the cloth in their hands to accommodate the majik rocketing towards them. They let out a soft "oof," as Kizashi slammed into them, and they tentatively let their hands come to rest on Kizashi's shoulders. Meanwhile, Kizashi nuzzled into his chest, and they looked up eagerly.

"Are you here to play with me?"

Chrono shook their head, "No, I fear that if we 'played' here, it would destroy the Witches' headquarters." Fighting with Kizashi in the open ocean was one thing, but somewhere with innocent people and very breakable architecture was much more worrying.

"Booo," Kizashi pouted, but after a while, a string of thoughts went through their head, that Chrono could see play out in their expressions, "Wait, then why are you here?" They suddenly realized.

Chrono leaned over to pick up the garment he'd dropped earlier, "This."

Kizashi took it from Chrono's hands, holding it out, "Thank you bestie! … What is it?"

Chrono sighed, taking it from Kizashi to wrap around his shoulders, "It's a robe."

Kizashi pinched a section of the kimono-style robe hanging around their shoulders, looking at it closely, "It has the same pattern as the stuff you wear."

"I know it's not practical for living in the water as you naturally should, but since you'll be spending more time on land, Minnie thought you might enjoy trying clothes out. And she thought you'd enjoy something that matches mine."

Kizashi's eyes went wide, and they pulled it around their shoulders tight, then pressed their pointer fingers together. Their tentacles curled up giddily as they looked away shyly, "… So we're matching… like you and her?"

Chrono blinked. Minnie probably hadn't thought of the implications as well… Or maybe she had? He would need to ask her after.

"I suppose so."

"…" Kizashi's cheeks darkened to a slightly warmer, deeper blue, "I guess not all weak humans are bad…"

"Kizashi," Ichi poked his head in through the door, "I have a new mission, we have to go."

"Awww!!!" Kizashi slammed his tentacles down in frustration, "It was just going so well!"

"We will see each other again," Chrono assured.

"Promise?"

Chrono took one of Kizashi's tentacles in a hand, "I have to keep killing you forever, don't I? That is a very long time."

Kizashi set off a small explosion in happiness, launching themself in the air, then landed near Ichi.

"Okay, okay, let's hurry this whole thing up, I need to come back and see Chrono immediately!"

Ichi smiled softly at the two of them, then Kizashi dissipated, returning to Ichi's majik circle.

"Thank you," Chrono bowed slightly to Ichi, who nodded in response, then turned on his heel and left.

Notes:

I just think Kizashi would look very cute if he was matching with Chrono and Minnie as well. If I continued it, it would be a lead in into a MinnieChronoZashi OT3 relationship.

Thank you for reading! 🐙🦅🛡
