Chapter Text
"Alright everyone, today we will be talking about different sea creatures and how it all works together." the teacher began the lesson.
In the back of the classroom Reki straightened up. Langa glanced over at Reki, surprised he was actually paying attention for once. Does Reki really find that much interest in sea creatures? Langa thought to himself. Langa shook his head slightly turning away to try and pay attention. There had to be something interesting about this lesson if it had Reki paying attention. Afterall, Reki and Langa both like skateboarding so maybe Langa will find this just as interesting as Reki does.
At the end of the lesson the teacher had brought up aquariums. It was just in passing but it got Langa thinking. He'd never been to the aquarium. Were they cool? What is an aquairum like?
"Langa, hey, earth to Langa!"
Langa startled and whipped his head to see Reki right next to his face.
"Dude, what are you doing? The bell rang, it's lunchtime! C'mon I'm hungry~"
"Sorry." Langa quickly gathered up his things and hastily shoving them in his bag before tucking his chair in.
The duo made their way quickly through the halls of the school weaving through the crowd of students that had gathered in the hallways. The two made it to the roof of the school just in time to claim a shady spot against the wall before anyone else could take it. It was a sunny July day in Okinawa and it was very warm.
The two pulled out their lunchboxes and began eating. Reki started talking about something but Langa wasn't paying much attention. He kept thinking about the aquarium. For some reason he was dying to know what it was like at one. Reki seemed to notice Langa's lack of attention and pasued to study him for a minute.
“Something on your mind Langa?” Reki said with his mouth full, “you look like you’re thinking a lot.”
Langa’s head snapped up, “hm? Oh, I was just thinking about the marine biology lesson we had today.”
“What about it?” Reki asked, tilting his head slightly.
“The teacher mentioned aquariums.”
“What about them?” Reki asked.
“I’ve never been to the aquarium before.” Langa stated.
Reki gasped and his eyes opened wide, “What! We HAVE to go to the aquarium today!” Reki finished with pointing a finger to no where in particular.
“Okay.” Langa agreed a small smile gracing his face.
The two spent the rest of lunch while Reki talk about memories he has of visiting the aquarium as a kid and Langa listening intently.
The bell signaling the end of lunch eventually rang and the pair gathered their things before heading back inside. Once again Langa found himself lost in his thoughts. He and Reki were going to the aquarium today. He felt excited; although the wasn't sure if that was due to the aquarium or that he and Reki were going to hang out again. Almost a year into being friends and Langa still got this giddy sort of feeling whenever he hung out with Reki.
"Careful!" Reki exclaimed quickly pulling Langa to the side.
Noticing Langa's puzzled look Reki continued, "You almost ran into another student; what has you so distracted?"
"Oh, uh, I was just thinking about the aquarium."
"Excited are we? But remember we still have the rest of the school day. Now c'mon or we'll be late for class."
The rest of the day seemed to go by slowly as if time was taunting Langa.
…
When the final bell rang at the end of the day Reki and langa started walking home together. When they reached the spot they split up at Reki stopped causing langa to turn and look back.
“Meet up here in an hour okay?” Reki asked.
Langa nodded in agreement and the two went their separate ways.
