Chapter 1: Daughter

Chapter Text

Vanilla didn’t love being up in the morning. She was more of a night owl, but motherhood meant she had to adjust to the schedule of her daughter. This morning, she woke up still feeling drowsy. She sat up in bed, trying to get a bit more comfortable and a bit more awake. As had become routine, she first turned her attention to the baby monitor on her bedside table. Cream was still sleeping soundly, though the light streaming in through the window threatened to wake her soon. Vanilla smiled at the thought of her daughter. Vanilla sat in bed for a few moments more before getting out and getting dressed for the day.

It was around 8:30. Cream normally woke up around that time, so Vanilla had begun anticipating it. She entered Cream’s nursery. The room was brightly decorated, mostly in soft pastels. Sun streamed in through the windows. Vanilla stood over Cream’s crib, admiring her infant daughter. Cream was still asleep. She didn’t want to wake Cream prematurely, so she took a seat next to the crib and read for a bit as she waited for her daughter to wake up.

Vanilla’s attention was arrested by a rustling of sheets. She put down her book and watched as her little bundle of joy stirred into consciousness.

“Mama,” came a high pitched voice. Vanilla walked to Cream’s crib, gently picking her up.

“Mama’s here.” Vanilla said as she gave her daughter a kiss on the head. She held Cream lovingly in her arms for a few long minutes, just standing there in the nursery.

Everything felt right to Vanilla.
