Summary
Edinburgh, 1785.
In the frost-bitten marrow of Scotland, Isbel is a living ghost. As an albino orphan of fragile constitution, she has long been reviled as a freak of nature, a pale malediction upon all who look her in the eye. When she is bartered for a few silver coins to a reclusive lord from the highlands, she does not fight, she merely waits for the grave she is certain he has prepared for her.
Egon Mordhaus is a another phantom. He dwells within a lightless keep — here hearths provide no warmth and the sun is an outlawed memory. Amidst the wreckage of Egon’s centuries-old grief, a macabre covenant is struck: she is to serve a master whose chest holds no heartbeat, but whose shadows offer the only sanctuary for a girl made of glass.
