Summary
For centuries, The Faith has ruled much of the galaxy through ritualized violence, forced conversion, and holy bloodlines maintained through natural birth. As artificial wombs replaced pregnancy across species, the Faith declared synthetic birth sinful—rendering humanity indispensable.
Nerezza “Nessa” Keseor, a human woman from a dying mining station, volunteers to become a Bride to spare another girl the fate. She is assigned to Father Azar Hadan, a decorated but disillusioned priest nearing elevation to High Priesthood. His final task is to instruct her in the Seven Scriptures and prepare her for purification on Kel Vor.
As they travel, Nessa’s curiosity fractures Azar’s certainty. When hypocrisy within the Faith is revealed—private indulgence masked by public cruelty—Azar’s belief collapses entirely. After a public punishment meant to break him, he helps Nessa escape.
They flee into rebel-controlled space, where Azar must confront the cost of his past conquests and prove he is no longer the Faith’s weapon. Their bond deepens through shared survival, resistance trials, and the slow unlearning of fear—until love itself becomes the final act of defiance.
