Work Text:
The last time she saw him was the day he showed her the knife that he kept under his pillow. After that Elias asked her to sleep over. She was lucky or rather smart when she refused his request. Maybe if she acted differently, she would not have survived till now. At the time they were only ten years old. It was clear from the first time she met Elias that he was obsessed with violence, with blood. The thought of murder, of how to kill was constantly stuck on his mind. As if it was tattooed to his very skin. Every second she spent with the other made what she knew much clearer. If she continued to see Elias, she would not be safe, maybe she would even end up like one of the victims in those cases he always talked about. She feared him but since they had the same caretaker there was no escaping him. What made the situation so much worse was that her own mother didn’t believe a single thing she said. She acted as if even thinking Elias intended harm towards her was ridiculous. But from the moment he showed her that knife she knew she had to act. She started to lock herself in her room. She even tried to run away. All to avoid Elias. After a while her mother finally had enough. Finally, she was safe from him. Four years she was safe. Four years. She had a life, friends, a future. But then came the day everything stopped. She saw him. She knew what she saw. Even if no one believed her. Again. She could feel it. His stare from across the street. The memories of it all came over her. She just wanted to enjoy her break, but she could feel his eyes on her. She could see movement from behind a tree. The tree was much too small to hide his platin blond hair, it was clear at that moment that he found her. She switched school. Even convinced her mother to move to another city, but he still found her. He still caught up. The fear of it all swallowed her whole. She started to distance herself from the people that surrounded her, even her best friend. The one that always stood by her side. She meant everything to her. Vanessa held her whole heart. At fourteen years old she didn’t realize it yet. But she would soon come to figure out just how deep her love grew. Maybe the moment she fell in love with the brown-haired girl was when Vanasse comforted her when Jamie first got her period. She stayed with her the whole weekend. Constantly holding a heating pad on her stomach. Vanessa even held her the whole night and made sure she felt better. She was so sweet. So perfect. But Jamie fucked it up. She always messed everything up. It started small when Jamie took longer than usual to answer a text Vanessa sent. From that moment it grew to Jamie not talking to people at her school she even walked by Vanessa a few times without even acknowledging her. Jamie just couldn’t muster up the courage to tell her what was going on. She feared what Vanessa would think of her. Would she call her crazy? Probably. It scared her that the one person she leaned on wouldn’t believe her. The craziest part about the whole situation was she would definitely believe her. But she couldn’t risk it. It would tear her apart from the inside if she didn’t. In turn to her distance Vanessa and their other friend Sara made a point to distance themselves. Jamie knew she was to blame but it still hurt when Vanessa and Sara walked by her without even a look back. Like she was nothing. Elias, the one she wanted far away from herself, was always there watching, while her friends didn’t even want to look at her. It was her fault. But she wanted her back. She wanted Vanessa to hold her. And not let go ever again. She thought if she had just behaved differently, it would not have come to this. Now she was alone she couldn’t even rant at anyone that someone was stalking her. She couldn’t help but laugh at the irony as she saw Elias from the corner of her eye. She was alone. Surely Elias would take advantage of that. Maybe even act on the desires he couldn’t fulfill back then. A tear ran down her cheek as she thought about how Vanessa would react. She didn’t want her to cry she would not be able to handle it. Jamie needed to make sure she got Elias to back off. Or Vanessa could get hurt.
