The entire solar system was definitely in chaos now that the Sun has yet again messed with their orbits. And although everyone was having their own set of problems, it has taken an especially heavy toll on the two ice giants.
Uranus couldn’t help but be worried about his friend. Since the cyan planet’s condition was already really, really bad, he had doubts that Neptune would be fairing well either.
And just by a glance to his orbit he could already make out the sickly turquoise color of his companion. He winces and decides to confront Neptune, it was the least he could do.
“Hey erm, mate… are you alright?” Uranus feels himself cringe at the question since of course he wasn’t, they were both basically melting as far as he knows.
Neptune turns around from whatever he was doing which was… he wasn’t sure actually. It was odd, he had a weird expression on, one that looked like there was something deeper going on.
Seeming to realize Uranus had asked him, Neptune goes back to his normal expression, a grin that says everything was fine, to the slight relief of the other ice giant. “Everything’s a-okay!” Neptune whispers, being careful since the Sun was probably still on edge.
“Okay, that’s good…” Uranus says, not sure what to say other than that. He hesitates, then blurts out. “But aren’t you a little bit worried about all this? I mean- I’ve just found out my rings are gonna be gone soon!” Uranus paused a bit, still trying to accept that his rings might be going away forever, the one thing he liked a lot about himself. “Surely you must be more affected by this than me since your real orbit is so far away.”
“Why are you being so observanttt?” Neptune says, raising a brow while spinning around his orbit.
“Mate, I don’t think anyone needs to be that observant to see that you’re clearly not yourself right now.” Uranus says, sighing.
“Welll I guess I havee been feeling a bit less blue lately, but that’s good! I’m more you-colored now, that makes us have lots more in common!” Neptune says enthusiastically.
“That isn’t technically a good thing mate. Not saying that in a normal situation it wouldn’t be-” Uranus says before he notices something. “Wait wait wait, where is your moon?”
Neptune tenses a little, something he rarely ever does. The earlier feeling of worry Uranus felt came back immediately. “They’re there! See? Playing around…” Neptune deflects, nodding his head off to a spot not too far from his orbit where the little moons were flying around in circles in a game of what he assumed was catch.
“I meant your other moon, the bigger one… with sunglasses?” Uranus says skeptically, he’d always seen him with the little ones, they were practically inseparable.
“Huh? What d’ you mean? Do I have one of those…?” Neptune says, shifting his liquidy surface around.
Uranus was starting to get suspicious now because if he knew one thing about Neptune it was that he valued his moons possibly more than his own celestial existence.
“Of course ya do mate!- Y’know if there’s something you aren’t telling me you should probably spit it out!” Uranus yells, frustrated at the usually dark blue planet’s behavior. But mostly at himself for not being of any help at all.
He then mentally notes to himself that he should probably lower his voice down because he swore he saw Sun glance their way. He takes a deep breath, then releases it.
Neptune’s gaze drifted off into space before going back to meet his again.
“I just…I feel like I should be more considerate huh? After the whole leaving the solar system ordeal I put you through.” He winces, remembering the words that have been spoken. “Plus, we’re friends aren’t we? You can trust me.” Uranus says slowly.
Neptune had a confused face before shifting into a smile. “Thanks Uranus.” He says while doing a little spin again.
Uranus really wanted to believe that things would get better but then the other ice giant coughed and hacked a bit. And soon enough Uranus followed.
“Bloody hell…” Uranus sighs.
A few moments later though he feels something float into his gravitational pull.
A cartoonishly large ice pack. He looked over to Neptune’s orbit and saw that he had a matching one, and probably swung this one to him.
Uranus shoots him a small smile of thanks plus a bit of a worried look when Neptune dissolves into another fit of coughs.
He lifts the ice pack to place on his head. Feeling it land just short of where his surface would be if it weren’t just swirling fluids. Sure it was a bit of a cartoony solution but it’d have to do for now.
He was actually feeling a bit better already, though he wasn’t sure if it was his own conflicting feelings or his condition.
Whatever or whoever had a plan right now better be acting on it soon. And he had a sinking feeling Neptune had something to do with it.
But he also knew that whatever happened, absolute out of this galaxy type of crazy or not, he would be by his best friend’s side, always.
