Work Text:

Azul sat in his cave, waiting for the two idiots to come. He looked down at an old photo of them, it was when they were tiny, so cute. He remembered when they first met. It was interesting to say the least. They were the only ones who didn’t care that he was fat, and loved him anyway. Ever since then he was stuck with them. Secretly, Azul liked them. He would never tell it to their face, but they were a nice distraction from the world when he needed it.

Azul’s phone buzzed, he looked down seeing it was from idiot #1

Idiot #1: Running late, goldfishie needed something, be there in 30 if F doesn’t try to do anything stupid

Azul sighed and plugged his phone in, he figured he could swim around for a little until they came. It would help him lose some weight after all. (not that he needs it-Author)

Azul made the small walk to the beach. It was rather close to their dorms, a few minutes at most. He sighed as he stepped into the water, a small smile on his face as the water lapped at his feet.

He had mixed feelings about the ocean. Yes it was his home, it made him feel at peace, but the other aquatic people bullied him when he was younger. The only ones who didn’t were Floyd and Jade, Idiot one and two. They were his first real friends, and now he is stuck with them.

He took off his necklace and set it down with his clothes. He was good at remembering things, and finding them when he needed to.

Slowly, he made his way back to the ocean, his large form hitting the sandy floor until he got into the deep sea. He sighed as he swam, a soft smile on his face. Things were good, or so it seemed.

Azul swam freely in the water, a few much smaller fish came to swim next to him, he smiled, all seemed right in the world.

That was until a massive ship came up, blocking the sun from hitting his back. Azul looked up, only to be greeted with a massive net coming down. He quickly ushered the fish away, but by the time he got ready to leave, it was too late. The net had swallowed him up. No matter how hard he tried, nothing worked to get him free. He struggled, clawed at the net and even tried to bite his way out, but nothing worked.
“What the hell is this thing?” Azul asked silently. When he looked closer he saw a small shine on the ropes. “Is this….Magic?” he thought, another puzzle pice falling into place. Whoever caught him had magic and a strong one. Azul quickly remembered his necklace and looked to find it, only to remember that he had left it with his cloth. He silently cursed himself for being so stupid.

Azul was pulled up into the boat and quickly put in a big tank. He swam around for a moment, trying to find a place out, trying to find any place to hide, anything to keep himself safe.

“Azul!”
“Azul!”
Azul’s head pecked from the rock he was hiding behind, it was near a corner.
“Azul! You are okay!” Floyd said, a big old smile on his face as he looked at his friend.
‘Sure, I’m safe, I’m fine, I’m okay’ Azul thought, rolling his eyes a little. He quickly swam to the glass, pressing one hand to the glass.

Floyd and Jade both reached up and pressed their much smaller hands to the glass, where Azul’s hand was.
“We’ll get you out of here, don’t worry” Jade said.
This made Azul started to tear up a little. They were here, they were going to get him out.

Slowly, he looked up, fear filled him, right where the two brothers stood. Azul swam back and rammed into the glass, he does this a few times before Floyd looked up. He saw the cage, saw it was about to fall down and trap them.

Time seemed to slow down.
Azul swam back again, getting ready to slam his body back into the glass.
Floyd grabbed his brother's shoulder and pushed him into the crowd.
The cage fell down, trapping Floyd.

People smile and cheer as the cage gets slammed down. Azul freezes as he looks at his-his best friend.
“Floyd!” Azul yelled, swimming back to the glass, slamming his fist into it. “Floyd, just hang in there, I’ll find a way to get out, to get you out” Azul said rather quickly. No one could hear him. The water prevented him from doing so as well as the thick glass. Upon closer look, Azul quickly discovered that the glass had a magical sound barrier that prevented anyone from hearing Azul in the cage.

Another man walked up. Azul slammed into the glass again, but nothing happened. “God damit!” Azul yelled, fist colliding into the glass, but nothing happened yet again.
The man walked over to Floyd with a smile on his face as he walked. “My, my, aren't you a pretty thing?” The man said. Floyd backed away, running to the mettle bars of the cage. He’s stuck there until the man decides his fate.
“Oh, quit playing around and rip that damn earring off” A woman's voice said. All three turned to look at the voice and there, standing just off stage was someone they all hated.

Mother Roseheart.

Floyd snarled, lunging at her, but the bars stopped him. Azul swam back and slammed himself into the glass again, still nothing. Jade tried to get closer, tried to retch for his brother but people swarmed closer to the cage, trying desperately to get a look at the person who was speaking. His brother, eager to see everything.

The man sighed and walked over to Floyd, grabbing his face with one hand. “So pretty” The man said toying with his earring for a moment. “Shame what will happen to you,” he added. Pulling the earring out. His ear ripping with it. Small droplets of blood dripped down onto his neck.

“NO!” Azul and Jade both yelled, but it was muffed by the cheers as they got to watch Floyd slowly turn into an eel. Floyd was lifted up and put in the water where Azul swam over to him, grabbed him, and swam to the rock formation he hid behind the first time.

“Stay here” Azul said, shoving Floyd into a spot between the wall and the fake rocks. Slowly Azul changed his colors to match the rocks, making it look like they had disappeared.

Floyd started to laugh a little. “Just like old times” He whispered. “Hide and seek”
Azul let out a small laugh, “Just like old times” He repeated, before spewing ink to help them hide.

“Wow! Jade come look at this!” Floyed yelled. Jade quickly picked up the sea shell he was eyeing to give to their mother before swimming over to his brother. “Watch this” Floyd said, touching one of his clawed hands to the Octopus merfolk's tentacle. It slowly turned the green blue of his brother.
“Wow!” Jade said, looking for one of the colorful shells he had grabbed and touched it to another one of the tentacles. It, sure enough, turned the color of the shell.

“I bet you are amazing at Hide and seek” Jade said, Floyd nodded in agreement.
“What’s hide and seek?" The small octopus said, tilting his head to the side.
“You don’t know Hide and Seek?!” They both exclaimed.
Slowly nodding his head the octopus said “No one wants to play with me” a hint of sadness crept into his voice as he said those words.
Floyd huffed. “Well, we are going to fix that” He said, “Right now, I’ll seek, you and Jade hide” Floyd said, turning around, he closed his eyes and started to count.

Jade quickly grabbed the others hand and started to lead him to a rock formation. “I’ll hide in here” He said, pointing to a small gap in the formation, perfect for him to hide in. “And you blend into the rocks up there” He whispered. The Octopus merfolk nodded his head and followed what he was told.

“Ready or not, here I come!” Floyd yelled, starting to swim around. He found Jade fast but it was Azul he was having a hard time finding. It didn’t help that he started to move because he found a shiny shell he wanted to give to them. He was still hiding, blending into the sand as he moved, but once he got to the shell he changed back.
“Found you!” Floyd yelled, causing Azul to jump and try to hide behind the shell.

Ink fills the tank where Azul and Floyd are in. It’s pitch black, no one can see what is going on. Jade watched in horror as they ready the spears, no one knew where the two could be. Anywhere by now.

Jade holds his breath as he watches them throw the massive spears into the tank, hoping that they would miss. Praying to anyone who would listen that they would be okay, that they would live.

Once all the spears were thrown, they started to pull them up. One by one he watched them come back empty, and one by one, Jade felt like he could breathe again.

Until

One of the spears lifts up.

Azul was on that spear.

Jade cried out in horror

People cheated as they saw Azul be pulled up.

One of the spears made it to Azul.

The spear was pierced through Azul’s neck. Blood dripped down the wood, onto the steel tip back into the water.

Azul was dead on the spot. There was no way he could have made it.

Jade watched as his best friend was pulled out of the water and lowered onto a table. Tears filled Jade's eyes as he watched Mother Roseheart take a knife and start to cut into his friend.

They start at the hips, separating the human half with the mer half. Sickening squelch come from Azul’s body. Bones get broken, body gets mutilated. Jade couldn't look away, he wanted to wake up, he wanted this to all be a horrible nightmare, but it wasn’t. He would never wake up.

Once Azul’s body was separated, his top half was thrown to the side. Like it was nothing. Jade felt mad, he wanted to grab Azul and keep him safe, but he found himself frozen in place. He watched as Mother Roseheart started to cut off his tentacles, started cooking him.

Jade couldn't watch anymore and turned his attention back to the tank that still held his brother. What a mistake that was.

Just as he turned his attention back to the tank, he saw something that made him want to throw up.

Floyd

Floyd had a spear in his tail. It pierced through his tail, dripping deep red blood into the tank. Another spear went into one in his arm. Jade watched as the spear that pierced his arm was pulled. Floyd cried out in pain as his arm was ripped from his body.

Jade couldn’t tear his eyes away from his brother. His arm was thrown back into the tank like it was nothing. He watched as Floyd was lowered onto another table next to Azul.
“A-Azul,” Floyd said. “Azul, can you hear me?” He asked, tears streaming down his face. “Azul! Octo!” Floyd cried out.

Mother Roseheart walks over, a bloody knife in hand. The blood of their friend. “So this is the freak who dares taint my son” She spat out. God her voice was like nails on a chock board.

Floyd snarled at her. “Y-You Hag fish!” He yelled out, (Please look it up).
Mother Roseheart’s cheeks flushed red, “Why you little” She snarled down at him, bringing the knife to his neck, before deciding to bring it down to his waist. “I heard that Eel merfolk taste lovely” She smiled before starting to cut into him.

Floyd didn’t scream, didn’t give her the pleasure to hear him in pain. Blood spewed everywhere as he was cut in half.

Jade watched as his best friend died, but also his brother.

He watched as Mother Roseheart started to cook them, cutting them up and serving them on plates. Everyone took a seat, including Jade as they got served a plate of his friend and brother.

Jade just looked down at his. He couldn’t bring himself to eat them.
“I know it looks pretty, but I want to know what everyone thinks” Her voice was on his right, hand on his shoulder, fingers digging into the soft flesh.
“Here, let me cut those for you, pretty boy” The creep said, taking the fork and knife from Jade's hands, he started to cut into the tentacle and tail flesh. Once they were cut into bite sized pieces, the creep stabs into one of the tentacle pieces, followed by the flesh of Floyd’s tail. “Eat up, pretty thing” The creep said.
“Yes, please eat”

Jade slowly brought the fork to his lips. He didn’t bite down, he couldn’t chew them, he just swallowed.

Sick

That is all Jade felt. He felt sick, disgusting, horrible.

“Tell me, what do you think?” She asked, her voice felt like being ripped apart, he hated it.
“It’s good” He lied because if he didn’t, if they found out, Floyd’s death would be for nothing. He died saving Jade, and he wasn’t going to let that death be in vain.
“Wonderful” She clasped her hands together.

Jade would eat every piece, but he wouldn’t chew, he would just swallow.

He walked over to the earring, the one given to them by their mom and picked it up.

“I’m sorry Floyd” Jade whispered. “I’m sorry Azul”

With a shaky breath in and out, Jade walked out and found the necklace Azul used to keep himself in his human form. He picked it up, as well as the clothes before returning to the dorms. He found his phone and opened it up. Tears stream down his face as he opens up his texts to ‘momma’. With shaky hands he started to type out.

“Mom, we need to talk”

And hit sent.
