Sonny entered the familiar prop house, intent on getting her things and going home for the night, she was happy, the “Open Mic” night went really well and everyone loved it (without Chad having to pay anyone for it this time), she was realizing so many dreams at once, first, getting to be a part of the cast of ‘So Random!’ having people she once only saw on TV as now her very best friends, then, a potential music career.
But not everything was perfect however.
She was sighing softly to herself, walking slowly, guitar slung over her shoulder, the corridor seemed empty but from afar she could hear faint footsteps from inside the prop house, someone was there, probably from the cast, could be Zora? the quirky pre-teen always seems to be around even when she isn't, Sonny couldn't let her guard completely down at the moment if she wouldn't truly be alone, she honestly just wanted to cry by herself right now.
How could she have been so foolish? To think a relationship between her, an ordinary girl from Wisconsin, would ever work out with an egotistical TV star who has been in the industry his whole life? Everything is fake in the life of the ’greatest actor of our generation’, including relationships.
How stupid Sonny feels for falling for Chad’s irresistible charm and deceiving deep blue eyes, just like he always said she would, only to be heartbroken in the end, just like all the other girls he ever dated, just one more for him to brag about.
The brunette singer closed her palm into a fist and bit her bottom lip hard, she could feel hot tears ready to come out but she wouldn't cry over this, wouldn't cry over Chad, not here, not in front of someone who told her this was a really bad idea all along, which could be any of the Randoms inside right now.
The sight Sonny found was relatively unusual though, it was her dear co-star Nico Harris and he seemed to be by himself, pacing back and forth around the couch, visibly anxious, it's not uncommon to see him so nervous, if you really know him.
What is actually unusual is to see him alone all by himself.
The aspiring rapper usually tries to play smooth for his co-workers and others around him, but his actual friends all know better, all the Randoms know he's actually super goofy, nerdy and silly and a little anxious, he's kind of shy in reality once a stranger waits long enough to get through his “cool and smooth” exterior, which was exactly the process Sonny went through these past 2 years knowing him.
Nico and Grady are so much alike, but the blond comedian wouldn't be able to pretend to be anything else even if he tried, Sonny finds it very endearing, the two of them together remind her of her and her best friend Lucy from Wisconsin, every thought you had, there was always someone by your side completing that thought for you, Sonny wishes she had at least a little bit of that connection with Tawni, but just like Chad, her way of being raised was just too different to completely work out.
On paper, Nico and Grady’s friendship shouldn't work either, they're technically from completely different backgrounds, but destiny put them in each other's lives so early on that their unbreakable bond just feels like it was simply always meant to be.
Maybe if her and Chad or her and Tawni could have met earlier in life like Nico and Grady did, the contrast wouldn't be so jarring.
Well, in a twisted way, it's a good thing that Nico is very distressed right now, that gives Sonny something else to do aside from grieving her failed relationship with a hot Hollywood star, she clearly has a good friend in need right now.
Sonny brushed off her tears to come, put on her ‘mask’ (which consisted of that huge characteristic smile of hers, full of teeth and optimism), she stepped confidently into the prop house and with both hands, Sonny gripped Nico’s shoulders lightly, just enough to stop the nervous teen in his tracks, he was trembling, he looked scared and on the verge of tears, Sonny has never seen him like this before and it immediately worried her, her voice was deeply genuine and full of concern when she asked.
“Hey, Nico, what's wrong?”
The charming comedian bit his bottom lip and looked away, face hot, holding on to Sonny's arm instinctively, he thought everyone was still down at the Patio, still hanging out, admittedly he doesn't know how much time has really passed since Grady…..
“S-Sonny!!! Hey…. I’m so sorry but, I have no choice, I'm quitting ‘So Random!’.”
