Work Text:
"Techno- it hurts."
Techno held tighter to the fledgling wrapped in his cloak. Thankfully it was thick enough that the sun's rays wouldn't burn the fledgling's skin, but the heat of the sun was the least of their worries.
Tommy was starving.
Techno hadn't known what to do when he had found his brother drained, barely breathing. He’d been so careful with Tommy. Making sure the boy was always wearing protection charms, putting garlic in his bags, giving his silver bracelets and necklaces to protect his arteries.
Techno did everything to make sure Tommy would never become food for the blood hunters.
Thankfully, Tommy didn’t become food.
The bite on his neck was jagged, like the skin was just torn open. Techno knew that there was no intention for Tommy to be turned, rather a draining that went wrong.
That did matter now, all that mattered was Tommy was a vampire, and he was starving.
Techno had tried to feed Tommy his own blood. Poking his wrists with needles and dripping IV’s down Tommy throat, desperate to get the boy to drink, but it was no use. Techno knew his brother needed better blood, vampiric blood.
If Techno was a better man, he’d leave his brother at the edge of a coven’s territory. Vampires were protective of fledglings, the man had no doubt that Tommy would be picked up and cherished, never needing to worry about hunger ever again.
Techno was selfish though. This was his baby brother, this was the only family he had left. All they had was each other, and Techno couldn’t bear the thought of parting with his brother, not yet.
Techno needed to find a way to feed Tommy somehow though, at least until his fangs dropped and he’d be able to subside off of human blood.
Finding vampire blood wasn’t all that easy.
Vampires were dangerous creatures, and kept themselves closely guarded. It was nearly impossible to get the jump on one, so to speak. Techno needed to find a way to lure one, and get its guard down so Techno could get enough blood for Tommy to feed.
Techno needed to lure a vampire somewhere, and catch them unaware. And for that he'd need Tommy.
Tommy was a newly turned fledgling, barely a fledgling at this point. Techno was sure he’d be considered an infant. Fledglings were precious, and they were rare. Any vampire would jump at the chance to take one.
That’s what Techno was banking on.
Techno listened carefully to the sounds of footfalls as he was being pursued.
He just needed to stay fast enough that he wouldn’t be caught, and it seemed as if luck was on his side, because he was able to stay just a few paces ahead.
It wouldn’t be long until he would reach the alley where he set his trap. After that it’d be easy, there was enough silver braided into the ropes he’d primed that the younger vampire that was chasing them would be bound in seconds.
Tommy whined as he pressed himself into Techno’s chest.
‘Just a little longer Toms’ Techno thought, ‘Just hold one.’
Humans are endurance runners, they can outlast most species, however this is not one of those cases that Techno can use that fact to aid his situation.
There was a very specific pattern Techno had to run in to avoid the several primed triggers, lest he want to end up tangled in his own rope trap.
He’d been meticulously, practiced until he was sure he could maneuver perfectly. This was probably his one shot at this plan working, and he needed it to work.
There was no greater relief that ran through Techno’s system than hearing the clicks and drags of his ropes being triggered, as well as the shrill, bat-like screech the blood sucker let out as it became tangled in the ropes, the silver burning its skin.
First order of business was getting Tommy safely tucked away in the makeshift nest Techno had crafted in the dark of his closet. His brother would be safe there while Techno got to work.
—
It was times like these that Techno was glad he chose nursing over English in college. As much as he loved literature, and wanted to pursue the art of language, he had a brother to feed and bills to pay. Not only was it something he cared about, that paid well enough, but it brought Techno a unique set of skills that he wouldn’t have expected he’d need outside of work.
Draining blood was easy, or at least the process was simple.
Blood drives were held all the time, it hadn’t taken much for Techno to swipe the necessary supplies.
The thing about blood drives is that they’re regulated, they’re only allowed to take so much blood. However, if you have the supplies, there’s nothing stopping you from taking more.
Techno angled the bound vampire in his arm chair, making sure it was sitting at a proper angle for its blood to flow properly into the bags Techno had set up on either side of it.
It would take awhile to properly drain the entire body, but Techno had time to work. Taking and storing blood over a period of time would allow it to stay fresher, and better for Tommy.
Techno wrapped each arm tight, pressing down on the forearm looking for a good vein to pierce. Due to their nature, vampiric veins were far smaller and paler than humans. However, Techno didn’t mind if he got a couple pokes wrong before he was able to press the needle into the vein and retract it. He covered the first IV, and repeated the process for the second arm.
After that, Techno released the tourniquets from both sides, watching carefully as the blood flowed into each back. Vampire blood was different from humans, it appeared to be far more oxidized, almost blackish in color. Likely from the amount of times it’s been recycled amongst vampiric bodies.
Typical blood donations took barely any time, but this wasn’t a simple pint of blood, this was bags upon bags. Techno monitored the fullness of each bag, clamping the IV shut to replace them when needed.
Slowly Techno ice chest was filled with more and more bags of blood, at this point Techno was sure he’d grabbed enough bags as he’d first anticipated. Not that it really mattered, the vampire would last until the final drop of blood left its system.
As Techno was massaging the muscles of the vampire’s arm, relaxing the muscle so the blood more steadily, small chirps and coos started whistling from his room.
The vampire in the chair attempted to react to the fledgling cries, but it was tied so tightly and bound with so much silver and garlic that it could barely move.
Techno hurried to clamp each of the IVs and swiftly ran to his room, throwing up the door and kneeling down at the entrance to the closet.
Tommy looked just as bad as he had for the last few weeks. Everyday he was growing paler, his cheeks were hollowing, and his eyes were sunken with deep bruises underneath.
Techno was well versed in his brother’s calls at this point, he held the fledgling close, soothing the boy as he rocked him back and forth.
“I know, I know Toms. I’m almost done I promise.”
Tommy’s eyes were bloodshot and hazy as he stared at Techno, it was hard to tell if he was aware of anything going around him, besides the sensations of touch and taste.
Techno ran his hands through his brother’s hairs, brushing out the knots from his greasy hair. He watched as Tommy leaned into Techno’s touch, latching onto every bit of affection. Then Tommy paused, sniffing the air and letting out another croon Techno had attributed to a cry of hunger.
Techno looked at the blood that stained the tips of his fingers from the IVs and trading bags. He held them close to Tommy’s face, watching as he zeroed in on the red painting his fingers. In nearly a flash of movement, Tommy clutched Techno’s hand tightly between his, and began gnawing on his fingers. Tommy had lost his canine teeth at this point, but had yet to grow proper fangs, so it barely dented Techno’s skin.
Tommy whined as the dried blood disappeared in a moment, it was a piercing shrill, one far more desperate than his usual cries of hunger.
Techno knew he couldn’t wait to finish his first round of draining, Tommy needed to eat.
Techno carefully wrapped Tommy in his cape once more, making sure the boy was comfortable and warm, before he picked his brother up and brought him into the living room.
Tommy let out another croon as they entered the room, where the smell of blood was sure to have permeated throughout the whole space. The vampire shriveled again in the chair, opening its mouth to let out a responding cry that was barely more than a gargle.
All of the blood bags Techno had finished filling were in the ice chest, and it would take far too long to heat them up to human body temperature. However, Techno didn’t need to wait for his blood bags to be finished for Tommy to feed.
Techno set Tommy down in an adjacent chair, inspecting the vampire’s veins and arteries to find the perfect spot for Tommy to feed.
In the end, the vein bulged in its neck as it barely struggled against its restraints, worn from the silver and blood loss, with renewed effort the sound of the fledgling cries.
Techno adjusted the ropes, pulling the silver as far away from its neck as possible. He wrapped the collar bones and shoulder in towels to keep the silver from being able to accidentally touch Tommy skin. Next he took a sock gag he stuffed with a clove of garlic in its mouth, pulling its head back and out of the way, binding it to the back of the chair.
Finally Techno to a nice, carefully lining up two marks against the vein, making sure they were in a spot where the blood was likely to flow heavier.
Techno grabbed Tommy, still holding the boy swaddled in his cape. He carefully brought Tommy over to the recliner, setting a perfect spot where Techno could hold the fledgling over the exposed part of the next, without risking any possible silver exposure.
He took out a knife, twisting into each mark until the blood began to flow, without going so deep that he’d rupture the artery and cause blood splurt all about the room and be wasted.
The dark crimson slowly flowed down the vampire’s neck, the blood stark against the pale white skin. A beautiful dichotomy if Techno cared to admire it.
Techno was not here to admire the imagery of blood however, he was here to keep his brother alive. His brother who was near feral in his arms as he growled and snarled the longer he was kept from the blood.
“Okay bud, I know, I know. It’s time to eat.”
Tommy was furious as he buried his face in the vampire’s neck, biting hard against the skin even with his lack of fangs. He swallowed large gulps of blood, the scent of iron thick within the space as Techno held Tommy tightly to make sure he didn’t accidentally fall.
Techno sighed internally as he watched Tommy gain more and more strength as he tore into the vampire. His remaining teeth broke the edges of the cuts Techno made, tearing further and further into the skin as blood dripped down the vampire and Tommy’s face. It was a necessary waste.
He’d be able to finish draining its blood later, but if all goes well, Techno will never watch his brother starve again.
And if the full transformation outlasts this stock of blood, Techno is certain he can get more.
