Chapter Text
Till had just finished organizing his stuff, and thanked God because today was Friday, when a familiar pink haired girl came up to him and held him a flyer.
— Sooo, are you subscribing? — Mizi asked with excitement. She knew he'd like what was written on the announcement.
Till gave a big smile after finishing reading.
— A music competition?! In our school?! Seriously?! — He couldn't help but let a happy chuckle before looking at the paper once more.
Mizi nodded and when she was almost turning around and leaving, she remembered another thing she had to say.
— Oh, sorry, I was almost forgetting... If you're really interested, knock on the council's door and subscribe yourself. I have to go now, see you later, Till. — She winked at him before leaving.
Till stayed there for a couple more minutes, staring down at the flyer in his hands. He was so happy that he could finally show off his musical talents to the whole school!
He carefully got the paper into his bag and went straight to the student council's room without a second thought. His mom wouldn't mind if he got home a couple of minutes later, right?
He stopped himself in front of the door and gave a long sigh before knocking on it. Suddenly, a tall figure placed one hand on his shoulder, making him flinch.
— Hey, Till! Why are you knocking on the door? — Ivan said with an almost too friendly smile.
Ugh, Till had almost forgotten who the student's council president was. He sighed trying to control his anger before replying to the other.
— Why else would I knock on a door, idiot? —
Till crossed his arms, before looking at Ivan with his casual tired expression.
— Calling me an idiot... I'm sure Io would love to know that her son is cursing her beloved son's best friend...
Till gave Ivan a deadly stare before answering him – We're not 'best friends' anymore, Ivan.
The taller boy looked away and went silent for a few seconds.
He decided not to say anything, or else he'd have to find somewhere to bury his head in, but only give Till a fake, but sympathetic smile, pretending he hadn't just messed up.
— Uh, right... So why are you here?
— The music competition; I wanna enter it. — Till showed him the flyer.
— Ah, yes, just... put your name on the list. — Ivan opened the council's door and leaned on it, waiting for Till to write his name on the list.
The grey haired boy looked down at the paper and saw Ivan's name written on it. He froze for a second, debating if he should really ask Ivan something that sounded rather... personal.
He gave a deep breath, deciding to say it anyway and kill his curiosity – Ivan, are you going to sing? — From the last he remembered, Ivan swore he'd never sing anymore in front of strangers after what happened last time — well... with him starting a fight with a guy who called him a fag and punching him with with his microphone.
With hesitation, he answered – I...–
He sighed before continuing. He decided to be a jerk to piss Till off and not answer him – Do I really need to explain anything to you, Till? You're neither my friend or relative, so why are you minding my business?
Till widened his eyes in shock. That was the first time Ivan had ever treated him like that, like a stranger. – Sorry, I shouldn't have asked.
Ivan regretted treating him like that, or maybe not... The weird face he was making was either constipation, or just holding back a chuckle. Weirdo. – It's ok... sorry too. –
He lowered his head before walking closer to the door – Close the door on your way out, and give the key to Hyuna or something...– He was holding back a laugh as he left the room.
— Hey... what? Why are you leaving?? –
He left a dumbfolded Till looking at the door with shock. The teal haired boy knew they weren't exactly on good terms, but leaving like that was not... he thought they were having a good talk...
One thing that Till really hated about Ivan was that he always seemed to be joking about everything. Like, he didn't take Till seriously! That was the most frustrating thing ever!
He clicked his tongue in frustration before realizing he was making funny faces at his own thoughts.
Without really knowing why, Till felt a pang of guilty ache in his heart. After all it was his fault that their friendship ended like that — on not very good terms. He should have been normal for once, but... he had to back out like a freaking coward...
Stupid — He cursed under his breath.
He closed the door, left the key with Hyuna's older brother (which's a council member and was coincidentally passing by that corridor at that moment) and went home, hoping that he wouldn't find Ivan on the way, because that would make everything way more awkward.
While walking, he decided to check his phone for any new messages, hoping his mother didn't message him yet. He clicked on the first notification, that led him to his friends group chat.

Till looked at his phone screen. Was his contacts always saved like that? He never bothered paying attention to it. Ivan was probably the one who put it like that in high-school. He smiled to himself, missing how things were before. Not that he missed being at school, he just didn't know about Ivan's feelings yet and things were easier for everyone.
Why did it had to be that way for him? He wanted everything to return to its place... Before everything went downhill and before they started pretending they didn't knew each other...
He sighed before entering his house.
— Hello, mom! – The boy said with a faint smile, searching for his mother.
— Hi, dear. How are you doing? – Io got out of the kitchen with two plates in hand, placing it on top of the table before hugging her beloved son and placing a kiss on his forehead.
— I guess I'm fine. – Till glanced at the food on the table before returning his gaze to his mom. – What did you cook? —
— Your favorite, dear!! You look down these days... So I thought this would help you get in a better mood. – She sat on a chair and Till accompanied her by sitting in front of his mom.
— How was school today? – She asked while serving her son some pasta.
— It was mostly average. But, actually, there was one interesting thing... There'll be a band competition in school!! – He exclaimed excited.
— Ohh, I see! I'm happy for you! – Io smiled, it was good to see her son finally excited about something. – And, Vani, Is he also joining? —
Till looked away. His mother didn't exactly knew that he and Ivan weren't on good terms... – Ivan...? Yeah, he will... —
— Aw!! I'm having such nostalgic feeling now! I remember when you two decided to form a band way back in middle school!! —
Till felt hopeless again. He really did ruin all this good memories only because he was too selfish to understand Ivan's feelings and his own confused self.
He smiled weakly at his mother. It hurt that he couldn't do anything, even if he tried, Ivan hated him now. Maybe that's was for the best.
— It's different from now. – His sentence only carried remorse and guilty. He exaled before continuing to eat his food in silence.

He washed the dishes, did the laundry and also helped his mother fold their clothes. It was around 5 p.m. when his phone buzzed, making him remember about the stupid karaoke his friends were planning to have tonight.
He sighed before going upstairs to decide what to wear. He wanted something that screamed 'REBEL' from afar but that didn't called too much unwanted attention.
After spending one hour meticulously deciding what he would wear, and ending up with a cool 'The Clash' shirt and ripped pants, someone rang his door bell. He got downstairs and shouted a – Wait a second!! – to the person standing by the door while he quickly shoved his boots over without worrying about wearing it properly.
He opened the door without thinking much or asking who it was and just greeted who he thought to be Mizi – Hey, girl! – He said with the most feminine voice ever and when he looked up, he realized that was certainly not Mizi!
— I-IVAN?! – He almost panicked, but fortunately, he saw Mizi and Sua behind him. – Ahem! I mean, actually, good evening to you, guys! – He looked down, very shocked, still, and... and embarrassed...
The group's greetings were accompanied by Mizi's laugh.
— Let's go, guys. – Ivan murmured politely before entering the car. He waited patiently for everyone to gather inside it.
Mizi and Sua sat on the back seats, and when Till was about to do the same, they kicked him out and said he should sit in the front seat, alongside Ivan.
Till gave them a deadly stare before finally surrendering and sitting on the passanger's seat with an annoyed huff and crossed arms. He awkwardly stood there, trying not to look at Ivan, or do anything at all.
Was he moving too much? Did he proper brush his teeth? Ugh, he probably looked miserable right now...
...
Why was he even worried anyway?
— Uh... Can I play something...? – Till asked in a low tone. Anything was better than this akward silence consuming his thoughts.
Ivan gave Till a side glance before nodding with a cute smile. – No problem, go ahead. —
— Thank you... – The grey haired boy looked away when their gaze met, not sure why.
Till connected his phone to the Bluetooth and put on some random Playlist. At least now there was something going on to fill his thoughts. It wasn't exactly quiet before, Mizi and Sua were sure having a great time, but Till was too lost in his own head to notice.
Till slightly shifted his body to face the girls behind him and interrupted their talk. – Do you already know what you are singing in the Alien festival? —
Mizi tilted her head to the side, thinking about the question and Sua raised an eyebrow.
— I was planning on singing a song with Mizi. Probably some cheesy one. – Sua answered sincerely.
Mizi eyes shined when she heard what sua had in mind – Aw, that's so sweet, Sua. I'm down for cheesy songs, as long as it's with you. – Why did they have to rub it off in Till's face that they were dating. He rolled his eyes jokingly before answering.
— I'll sing some Sex Pistols, probably... – He looked at Ivan, who was tapping the wheel in the music's rhythm. – And you, Ivan...? – He asked without thinking too much about it.
Ivan almost choked on his saliva before answering, not expecting Till to ask him too. – I don't know... Sorry.– He tried to answer it cold and politely but his voice cracked in a funny way.
Till didn't mind that, he was clearly more irritated by Ivan trying to be all polite and shit. - Can stop with that bullshit?! Just because I said we're not friends anymore you don't need to act like a completely stranger!! -
Did Till say that out loud? No. Did he want to? Pretty much. But he also didn't want to upset Ivan more or ruin their fucked up relationship even more.
He held back his intrusive thoughts before answering. – I thought you had something in mind, already... —
— Yeah, not really. –
Ivan looked at the rear view mirror, fully concentrated in parking the car. They've arrived at the karaoke. – We're here... —
Everybody got out and got into the place. Hyuna and Luka were already waiting for them inside their designated room.
— Hey-ya!! – Hyuna greeted them with a happy smile. – Geez. I thought you guys died on the way or something, what took you so long? – Luka said with a funny face.
— Did we take that long? – Ivan was ready to apologize when Hyuna interrupted him.
— Nah, I'm just kidding, we arrived at couple minutes ago, don't worry!! —
Everyone greeted each other and sat on the sofa. Till and Hyuna were the first to pick a song. The two sang 'Na Na Na (Na Na Na...)' from My Chemical Romance with the top of their lungs. After the show they gave, everyone ordered some drinks and the night started officially.
All of them were having fun, except for Ivan, who hadn't sang a single melody and was drowning himself on some radioactive alcohol mixture.
After an hour, the black haired guy, who was already drunk and out of his mind, got up and walked on a straight line to where his friends were and held Till's wrist.
— Sing one song with me, Till. – Till had his eyes widened with shock, he was so speechless that he even stopped singing.
He looked uncertain of what to do next, just looked at Ivan... His cheeks were flushed, his hair was messy and his jacket was nowhere to be found. He actually looked quite... hot-?
NO! A hot mess, only.
— I-I... Sure... why not, right? – The words came out of his mouth involuntarily, why the hell did he accept that?! He didn't even think before saying yes. Was he really that desperate for getting Ivan's friendship back?!
Ivan was looking down at his phone screen, still holding Till's wrist and then showed him the screen. — I want to sing this. – Bulletproof love from Pierce the Veil.
Till eyes widened again, he wasn't expecting Ivan to pick an emo song, especially that one... but he agreed, after all he was still found of Iv- Pierce the veil! Of course...
Their friends, who'd been whispering and giggling things let them sing first because Ivan hadn't sang anything yet. Obviously that wasn't the only reason as everyone wanted to see what's gonna happen in this romance novel...
When Ivan pressed the play button for the music to start, Till swallowed dry. It wasn't that he didn't know the lyrics, it was just that this was very similar with their relationship.
"I breath you in with smoke in backyard lights (backyard lights) We used to laugh until we choked into the wasted nights (wasted nights) It was the best time of my life, but now I sleep alone..."
Till stopped singing as this song turned too personal, he knew that psycho had chosen a song long before only to mess with him.
Would it be too dramatic if he just ran away...? Or would it be too coward of him to do the same thing twice, in different situations?
But the door was so close and... and Till had to leave!
He looked at Ivan for what seemed to be five minutes, before shoving his microphone in his hands and running away. Without looking back or getting his phone.
He was really stupid. Really.
