Chapter Text

Avery was not having a good time.

It had been a couple of days since, whatever had happened with D3rlord and the King. How was he supposed to move on after that? It was all just so confusing. Avery hadn’t even left his apartment in the last few days, right now he was just scrolling through his phone trying to get his mind off things.

He was watching some video of a cat when suddenly he got a notification that made him forget everything he was (not) doing.

Unknown number: Hello Avery this is Derek, I’m alive?

You: WHAT???

You: YOURE WHAT???

You: HOW DID YOU GET MY NUMBER??

Unknown number: like I said, I know a lot of things, theres probably a lot of things your thinking about right now

Unknown number: but I feel like this is a conversation better had face to face

You: Right

You: where are you?

You: is there somewhere we can meet up?

Unknown number: I’m outside your apartment right now actually

You: HSGUSJ SJBSUS AKLWJ

Reading that Avery practically fell out of his bed and rushed over to his front door, Ignoring all warnings about meeting strangers on the internet he had been previously told as a child.

D3rlord3 was also not having a very good time.

besides everything that just happened a few days ago, at least he assumed it was a few days, his internal calendar was still a bit messed up, he was also having second thoughts about meeting up with Avery like this.

‘I’m alive? Who starts a conversation like that? What if he was weirded out by him waiting in front of his apartment like a normal person should be?’

He thought it would be quicker this way then setting up a meeting spot and less shocking then knocking suddenly without warning, but something like this probably needed more warning then what was giving Avery right now. He was glad he had remembered to shower at least before rushing over to Avery’s apartment so he hopefully didn't smell like a corpse.

Various thoughts filled his already very full head. Just as he was about to consider leaving, the door to Avery’s apartment opened, revealing exactly what Derek expected Avery to look like.

· · ·✶· · ·

When Avery opened the door he was met with someone he had never seen before. Despite that he immediately recognized the person in front of him immediately as D3rlord. He looked even worse than Avery probably did, though he probably should have expected that considering everything he knew about him.

There was a moment of silence between the two before Derek spoke up.

“I know you have a lot of questions right now but-“ before he could finish talking Avery pulled him into a hug.

“I’m so glad you’re ok right now.” Avery said, still holding on tight to Derek before quickly letting go when he remembered he probably smelled terrible.

“Do you uh, want to talk about it over food?” Avery asked after realizing he hadn’t ate anything all day and remembering his fridge was embarrassingly empty.

“Yes please I’ve been surviving off of old smoothies in my fridge for the last few months”

This Surprisingly wasn’t the most concerning thing he’d heard from Derek despite them only meeting a few days ago and this being their first in person interaction.

· · ·✶· · ·

Well here they were, sitting in an almost empty McDonald’s a few days after killing(?) an eldritch god with a Ronald McDonald statue staring at them from the corner. Avery still didn’t really understand anything that happened or was happening, sort of mindlessly messing with his fries.

“So uh, what happened?” Avery was sitting across from Derek watching him like a bug under a magnifying glass

“I don’t really know to be honest. I sort of blacked out for a few days after everything and woke up earlier today.”

“Are you ok? What happened to the whole head feeling like it’s going to explode if you look away from the computer thing?”

“When I woke up my computer was off and everything just seemed quieter, like it was still there but it became easier to handle. Maybe my brain got so broken it went back around to being fixed?”

“Does that make any sense?”

“Not really, and honestly I don’t care, I’m just glad it’s over.” Derek said, looking down at his burger, he honestly was wondering when would be a good time to start eating without it being weird.

“I’m in love with you Derek.”

“What.”

“What.”
