Chapter Text

Chapter One: The Crimson Thistle

The air in the Eggman Empire’s central command was thick with the ozone scent of high-voltage machinery and the rhythmic, mechanical heartbeat of a thousand assembly lines. Dr. Ivo Eggman stood before the flickering heart of his newest masterwork: the Phantom Ruby. It sat nestled within a containment field of jagged, silver pylons, pulsing with an iridescent, sickening violet light that distorted the very space around it.

"Infinite was a flawed vessel," Eggman mused, his gloved hands dancing across a holographic interface. "Too much ego. Too much... drama. A general needs to be an extension of my own will. A blunt instrument with the sharpness of a scalpel."

On the clinical, metal slab before him lay Amy Rose. Her pink fur was matted from the struggle at the resistance outpost, her iconic Piko Piko Hammer cast aside like a discarded toy. She was unconscious, but the ruby’s glow was already reaching out, tendrils of magenta energy snaking around her wrists and forehead like ethereal vines.

"Let’s see how the Resistance likes their 'sweetheart' when she’s the one holding the leash," Eggman chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound that echoed off the cold walls. He slammed his fist onto the final activation sequence.

The Shattering

Inside Amy’s mind, the world was breaking. The memories of green hills and blue blurs were being systematically overwritten by a digital, crimson static. Every thought of "Sonic" was being twisted—not into hatred, but into a distant, irrelevant noise. In its place, a single directive took root, heavy and immovable as a mountain: The Empire is the Order. The Doctor is the Architect.

The Phantom Ruby surged. Amy’s eyes snapped open.

The warmth of the jade-green irises was gone, replaced by a cold, glowing fuchsia. She didn’t scream. She didn’t struggle. She simply sat up, her movements fluid and predatory.

"How do you feel, my dear?" Eggman asked, leaning in with a predatory grin.

Amy looked at her hands. The magenta energy flickered between her fingers, manifesting a new weapon—a version of her hammer that looked less like a toy and more like an engine of destruction, its head encased in shifting, crystalline geometry.

"I feel... focused," she said. Her voice had lost its high-pitched cheer, replaced by a low, rhythmic rasp that carried a dangerous edge. "The world is chaotic, Doctor. It needs to be pruned. I shall be the one to prune it."

A New Thorn

Eggman clapped his hands together in delight. "Magnificent! A rebel’s spirit, harnessed for the sake of absolute authority. You are the thorn that protects the Rose of the Empire."

She stood up, the metallic boots of her new uniform clicking sharply against the floor. She wore a dark, tactical variant of her usual attire, trimmed with glowing violet circuitry. She swung the heavy hammer onto her shoulder with effortless strength, the weight of it enough to crack the floor tiles beneath her.

"The Resistance is still operating in the Green Hill sector," Amy—no, Rebel Rose—stated coldly. She adjusted her headband, which now pulsed with a faint, hypnotic light. "They think they are fighting for freedom. They are merely resisting the inevitable."

"And what will you do about that, my General?"

Rebel Rose turned toward the massive bay window overlooking the smog-choked horizon of Eggmanland. A smirk played on her lips—one that was defiant, fierce, and entirely manufactured. She laughed, her laugh felt... wrong.

"I’ll break them," she said, her eyes glowing with the simulated fire of the Phantom Ruby. "I’ll show them that loyalty is the only path that doesn't end in ruin. Give me the coordinates. I have a world to bring to heel."

Shadows of the Resistance

Miles away, at the Resistance HQ, the atmosphere was frantic but hopeful. Sonic leaned against a tactical map, tapping his foot at a mile a minute.

"Anyone heard from Amy?" he asked, trying to keep the concern out of his voice. "She was supposed to check in from the scouting mission an hour ago."

Knuckles shook his head, crossing his arms. "Radio silence. But it’s Amy—she’s probably just got her hands full with some Badniks. She’s tough. She’ll be back with a full report by sunset."

Sonic looked out the window, a strange chill running down his spine. The sky toward the north looked darker than usual, tinged with a faint, shimmering purple hue. "Yeah," Sonic muttered, his brow furrowing. "I hope you're right."

He had no way of knowing that the girl who usually chased him with a smile was currently sharpening her hammer, waiting for the command to hunt him down.
