Summary
Two years have passed since Rafayel and Meilin left behind Yunshao and returned to Zhaole and, in that time, political unrest has been on the rise. In the face of a better relationship with His Majesty at the Imperial Capital, some of Zhaole’s nobility feel that their own Royalty is bowing a knee. The Emperor, Rafayel’s older brother, implores the younger man to remain vigilant in the face of this rising unrest.
Within the walls of the palace, Meilin finds herself in a world she still is not fully used to, and unwittingly stumbles upon the whispers of a plot that her ears should have not heard. Between a concubine and a rebel, hushed words shared sealed the fate of Rafayel’s bride.
When Meilin goes missing, a threat looms, rebellion spilling amongst the furthest corner of Zhaole’s lands. Acting on behalf of his brother, the Emperor, Rafayel is ordered to lead an army and quell the rebellion, his own personal motives allowing him to go with ease.
He finds proof that Meilin has been taken to that furthest corner and he will not rest until she is back in his arms and safe.
