Chapter 1: A new chapter, a new town

Chapter Text

A brunette haired man sat in front of a desk, clutching the armrests of the chair as the older Beta in front of him talked. Casey wasn't listening to him anymore, not after he told him he would be transferred from this hospital to a different one effective immediately.

It's not like Casey cared much. No, the system always spit and regurgitated nurses like they were dog food. It was the fact that it was because of some douchebag alpha doctor and the audacity that he couldn't keep himself in check so Casey had to do it for him.

“Now, you are being transferred to the Pittsburgh Trauma Center. They are taking you into the E.R. department, and you start Wednesday. Any questions, Mitchell?” The grey haired man looked at the man over his glasses, a bone tired look on his face as Casey nodded.

“..I understand.” he basically mumbled under his mustache, holding himself back as he and the elder stood up, the latter walking him to the door.

“You’re not a bad Nurse, Casey. Perhaps you just don't get the gentle part of healthcare. Not many Alphas do.” The remark made Casey scoff under his breath, shaking his head softly as he just wished the man a goodnight and went to unpack his locker, already fed up and ready to pop open a bottle of wine and watch netflix.

“Case! Yo, hold up man!” A younger attendant ran up as the man was walking down the hallway and back to the nurses station, then to his locker. He stopped, the voice having rang in his head enough times to already know who it was before he turned around.

“Yale. Please, im not in the mood right now” The other caught up, their slightly unkempt hair brushed behind their ears as they rolled their eyes.

“No shit. Wanted to catch you before you left. Well, for good i guess. Thanks for doing that by the way, he seriously needed it. Being omegaphobic AND sexist is crazy.”

“Just spit it out, Yale” Casey huffed, continuing to walk as he rubbed at his mustache, something many a therapist said was a self soothing procedure.

“Me and Macey wanted to invite you for drinks tonight. And you can't say no, this is like, the last shift the two of us ever worked together. It’ll be like a girls night out, plus you. And maybe if you drink enough you'll get that stick out of your ass and replace it with something else” They teased, making the brunette alpha scoff as they rounded a corner, passing by a few workers.

“Do I ever have a choice of not going out anyways? I swear I end up drunk at some bar every time you ask me to go with you and her. Plus, we got that thing on Friday. The festival”

“That's not true! There was… well that's when you had a car. Er… it doesn't matter. Be ready to be picked up by 9, wear something that'll make the men drool. Macey gets out of her fancy lawyer job at like 7:30, so we'll head to yours to pregame at like 8. We’re clubbing the whole night babes.” They grinned, punching the alpha's shoulder before scurrying off as her pager dinged against her hip.

He just sighed, shaking his head once again as he continued on. It's not like he didn't like hanging out with people. He did, really. He loved the buzz, the alcohol, the whole mix of drugs and who's designated driver. He just didn't know if he could make it through the whole night without breaking down. Again

He shook the thought off as he neared the workers lockers, fishing his ID and everything else he had on him out as he unlocked the upper locker. There was never much of his stuff here, just a few nicknacks he forgot to bring home, his jacket and a tin, presumably full of tylenol. Or more, Casey didn't remember at this point.

As he got everything into a backpack he didn't look around. He didn't care if other people saw him. He didn't care if his name was dragged through the mud at this point. He hoped he would never see half these people again.

With everything in order and cleared he finally took off the lock, heading to the nurses hub to drop it to the charge nurse and finally get the hell out. It only took a few minutes, exchanging goodbyes and handing over everything no longer needed before the man walked out the hospital's front doors.

He made it home, thankfully, in record time, as he felt his shoulders un-tense and the front door swing closed behind him. The front hallway was messy, shoes and a few random containers thrown in a corner as he dropped his bag and slipped out of his tennis shoes. He ambled over to the couch, groaning as he slumped into the worn down cushions. He never really got comfortable in this apartment, having slept on the couch so many times in the past that there was almost a permanent indent in it.

He closed his blue eyes, curling up in a half fetal position as the world melted away, leaving a raw and aching hole in his mind.

When he finally woke up it was to Yale calling him, the shrill sound making his sleepy brain shriek as he picked up with a yawn.

“Mmrr.. What?..”

“Let us in, it's late and we need to pregame!” Their voice travelled through the door just a few feet away, the man audibly groaning. He hung up without another word, clicking his phone screen back on to check the time as he shuffled toward the door.

8:06

The alpha shook his head, scratching his chest as he opened up the door and was almost trampled by a flamboyantly dressed Yale, and Macey, the ginger girl smiling apologizingly as they walked past him toward his kitchen. Casey closed the door behind them, almost forgetting he was still in his scrubs as he joined them.

“Damn, did you pass out or something? Work ended like three hours ago dude”

“Piss off Harvard. I was tired” Both the beta girls' scents wafted through the air, one smelling like paprika and Cedar while the other was more like peaches and jam. He shook his head, the two girls dragging him to go find an appropriate going out outfit as he just let them. He sat on the edge of the bed, perfect and almost too clean as the two began to sift through his closet.

“Mmm, are we thinking i wanna get laid or i wanna get absolutely fucked?” Yale wandered out loud, holding numerous shirts up as Macey picked between them, landing on a low cut almost see through black chiffon button shirt.

“I'm thinking he wants to just get laid. Poor Casey got transferred, going too hard is too much. Plus, we’re gonna party harder on Friday anyways.”

“True” The two bantered, the brunette just rolling his eyes as he went on his phone.

“Okay, Casey, here's the final look.” Macey held up the pants, black material and an impressive sparkling buckled belt in her hands as Yale held the shirt and black boots. Casey groaned, putting his phone away as he went to get dressed, leaving the two girls to go to the kitchen and prepare shots.

He put everything on, staring at himself in the mirror before he just sighed. He put on some eyeliner, chap stick and finally a shit ton of scent blockers and cologne. He didn't need to get so horny he started reeking. He left the bathroom, grabbing his phone off the bed before joining the two others, the three drinking and making sure they all had their IDs on them before they headed out to call a cab. ,

They all soon enough arrived at their first club, the line already starting up as they jumped in, giggling and talking among each other as they grew closer to the entrance, before finally reaching the bouncer and getting the go ahead. With a final thank you to the bouncer, they were finally in and ready to forget what had happened just a few hours ago.
