Summary
At ten years old, Akechi Goro had accepted that he would probably spend the rest of his life without ever being loved. He spent his days alone with a mother who didn't really want him, yet he loved her nonetheless. And then Ren appeared—a ghost with no memories of his past, and the only person who stayed by Goro's side even through the killing and destruction of lives. But everything cannot stay the same forever. When Goro encounters Ren's doppelganger going by the name Kurusu Akira, and the heart-changing group known as The Phantom Thieves of Hearts, everything around him starts to crumble. While Ren remains, Goro feels the universe is determined to break them apart.
Ren only remembers two things: a task that he has to do no matter what and the words If only we had met earlier. Knowing nothing about what any of those things meant, Ren latches on to the only thing he does know: Akechi Goro. But keeping his promise to stay by Goro's side becomes increasingly difficult when it slowly becomes clear that his memories may hold a horrible truth about his existence and why he's here.
