Chapter 1: A start of adventure

Chapter Text

Fold loved his small town. Everyone knew everyone, and the community was tight knit. He had a basket on his back, as he was going down to the market to get some fruit, Ori and Gami in tow.

Ori and Gami were the kid twins that he was taking care of since their parents, Papoma and Paxter, two of the villages greatest warriors, had passed away. Their kids followed in their footsteps, but all Fold wanted was to keep them safe, which is why he taught them how to fight and defend themselves best he could.

Ori was the more rambunctious twin, she found new ways to get into trouble almost everyday, but always meant well. She had flat triangle pigtails, and two eyes, along with a dress folded out of a triangle of paper.

Gami was the more reserved twin, he loved making things whenever he could, and adored using his power of mache to make new things, which Fold had to make sure didn’t make a new hole in the house. His hair was spiky and jagged paper, and he had paper shorts.

“Hey- when we get to the market, can we get some sweets?” Ori asked, tugging at his arm.

“Yeah! Yeah! Can we get some ink candy?!” Gami asked, jumping up and down a bit.

“Heh, I’ll consider it, if you two bahave for once,” Fold joked.

“Will do sir!” Gami saluted.

“And that’s another thing, stop calling me sir!” Fold scolded.

“You know my name, there’s no need for the formalities.”

“Well, it’s not like we’re gonna call you dad or something,” Ori muttered.

“Hey! That was unnecessary and you know it,” Fold scolded.

“Maybe I won’t get you that-“

A crash could be heard nearby, causing the cranes to fly off.

“…what’s was that?” Gami asked hesitantly.

“We should check it out, C’mon!” Ori said, grabbing her brother’s hand and running off.

“ORI! WAIT- ugh!” Fold quickly put his basket down before chasing after them.

He ran between buildings and across paths, and when he finally found the duo, he saw what ha happened. The town was being attacked! Their glue station had been completely destroyed, and now staplings, small metal gremlins, were running amok! Ori and Gami were making quick work of them, but Fold could see the horrible Sicilon, the scissor warlord, approaching from the bridge, he was about to attack the kids!

Fruits be damned, he ran in to stop them from getting hurt.

“WATCH OUT!”

He pushed the twins out of the way as Sicilon’s sharp sword came down in a slice. He heard a growl, but a small voice piped up.

“We got what we came for boss!” A stapling said, holding the super glue bottle. It was the only artifact that could cause immortality, hidden away in the towns glue station.

“Good, we need not to crumple more spending time in this pathetic town,” Sicilon spat, before turning and leaving with his army.

“…You sure showed them, didn’t you? That was awesome guys!” Fold said, propping himself up on his arms. Neither twin spoke.

“…is it- is it that bad?” Fold asked, not hoping for an answer.

He flipped himself over, just to see the damage. He’d been cut almost completely in half landscape style, ink poured out of his wound. He thought he heard Ori scream, but he could barely hear her.

“…oh- oh my god,” he muttered.

“…Fold… fold no…!” Gami muttered, quickly going to fold’s side.

“Don’t, don’t worry, kid,” Fold strained a smile, trying to comfort the kids while also dealing with the fear of death.

“I’ll be… I’ll… you’re gonna be fine, it’ll be fine. Don’t worry.”

“But- but- but you-“

“Hey, cmon, it’ll be ok! You- ugh-“ the pain was starting to come to him, sharp and persistent.

“…you, will do great things, kid. I- both of you. I’m so, so proud of you, y’know that?”

“…Don’t, don’t leave us!” Ori cried.

Just then, someone approached.

“Oh dear! What happened here?”

Fold looked up in slight confusion at this newcomer. She had blonde hair tied up into a ponytail, along with purple eyes. She wore a yellow paper dress with a purple tissue paper ribbon on the waist.

“…who the hell are you?” Fold struggled.

“Oh, don’t worry about that,” the woman said.

“You look like you need some help. Here, I saved one of the glue bottles from that nasty attack!”

She put a hand behind her back, and pulled out a bottle of glue. Quickly, Fold snatched it out of her hand and downed it, the tear on his midsection sealing itself back together. He took in a sharp breath as he sat up, hands wrapping around his waist.

“Fold!” Ori said quickly hugging Fold, followed closely by her brother.

“Don’t scare us like that again!” Gami cried.

“…yeah, no I’m… fine,” Fold hesitated.

“…uh- thank you, miss-?”

“Information,” She said, putting a prideful hand on her chest.

“…miss information.”

“Yes, is there a problem?”

“…nope.”

“Here, you need a hand?”

She quickly helped him up.

“Y’know, I’ve heard a lot about you,” She said.

“…what- what have you heard?” Fold asked.

“Oh only the best,” Miss information reassured.

“Your abilities with paper mache, your excellent fighting skills, it’s no wonder why they call you a great warrior, Origami.”

“…so, funny story,” Fold hinted.

“His name isn’t Origami! That’s fold!” Ori said, crossing her arms.

“…uh, what?” Miss information hesitated.

“I’m Ori!”

“And I’m Gami!”

“…how- how old are you two?” Miss information asked.

“We’re ten years old!” Ori stated.

“…oh, that’s great,” miss information said through gritted teeth.

“Alright, well! You two are in for a wild adventure. I’ve heard you’re the only two who can save this world from Sicilon, the evil scissor lord!”

“…the ten year olds…?” Fold asked, skeptically.

“Why of course,” miss information said.

“They carry their parent’s abilities of paper mache after all! I haven’t seen anyone else be able to conjure weapons like they can. Truly, they’re destined to be hero’s.”

Fold looked nervously at the two kids, who were absolutely eating this up.

“…I-i don’t really think-“

“LETS DO IT!” Ori and Gami said at the same time.

“Wha- absolutely not!” Fold protested.

“You could get hurt! You- we have no idea what’s out there. Your kids for crying out loud you have no business risking your lives out there!”

“But they’re the only ones who can possibly stop Sicilon!” Miss information drawled.

“Yeah, Fold, we need to do something!” Gami pleaded.

“Fold, pleeeeaaaase?” Ori begged.

“…fine. But I’m coming with you,” he relented.

“Oh, truly there is no need-“

“I’m, coming, with,” Fold interrupted.

“I refuse to let my kids get hurt. No way. And besides, you really wanna be dealing with kids the entire time you’re out?”

“…fine, you can come with,” Miss information sighed.

“Just don’t slow us down, alright?”

“…of course.”
