Peter brought his hand up to his mouth and nibbled on the nail of his thumb, a nervous habit he’d developed over the years. It brought out a little of the stress he felt, and he almost forgot he was doing it until another hand joined his and dragged it downwards.
“Stop doing that,” Peter’s boyfriend, Harley, said. “It ruins your nails.”
Peter groaned a little. Although he was grateful to have an overprotective boyfriend, it did get a little bit irritating at times.
“I’m just super nervous, you know?” Peter sighed, “I know Mr Stark won’t mind I’m dating a dude, but if he knows I’m dating you, well –”
“Shhh,” Harley interrupted. “Babe, it’s going to be fine. He’ll be thrilled that his favourite intern is dating the boy who saved his life.”
Peter was ready to argue, but Harley shushed him again, taking his hand and leading him towards the entrance of Avenger’s tower. The tower felt far more oppressing than usual, and Peter had to restrain himself from biting his nails again.
The two of them reached the elevator and Peter swiped his all access card, pressing the button that would take them to the penthouse floor. The elevator ride felt slow, and Peter felt Harley tighten his grip on his hand in reassurance.
When the metal doors finally slid open smoothly, the two boys stepped out. They walked down the hall towards the lounge area, where Tony was sure to be, and Peter felt himself becoming more nervous the further they walked. Harley had clearly picked up on this, and was holding Peter a little closer, which calmed him down a little.
As they neared the lounge, however, Peter let go of Harley. He wanted to tell Mr Stark without him making any assumptions first.
The lounge finally came into view, Mr Stark slumped on an armchair, clearly waiting for Peter, who’d promised to show up. As soon as he spotted the boy, he leapt up.
“Hey kid! Who’s that you’ve go— Harley?” He cut himself off.
“Yup!” Harley replied.
“How do you two even… know each other?” Ah. It was time for the awkward part. Peter took a deep breath.
“Mr Stark, Harley is… he’s my uh… we’re–”
“We’re dating.” Harley offered. Peter felt his cheeks turning red and looked down to avoid seeing Tony’s reaction.
“Holy shit.” Was that a good ‘holy shit’, or a bad ‘holy shit’. There was no way for Peter to know without looking up, which he absolutely did not want to do. “My kids are dating. Oh my god. This is the best day of my life.” That answered it, then.
Peter looked up. Tony looked almost overjoyed.
“Wait, so you’re all good with us, you know…?” Peter was still uncertain.
“All good? Kid I’m great with this. I didn’t even know you two had met. I was going to introduce you to each other some day. Imagine that!” Peter sank down a little with relief. “You didn’t think I’d… be unsupportive, did you?” Peter flushed slightly with embarrassment. Tony sighed. “Kid, come here.”
Peter walked towards Tony and was surprised when he was pulled into a hug. He knew Harley was standing awkwardly behind him, and almost brought it up when Harley took care of it.
“Uh…” Tony looked up at the sound of Harley’s voice.
“Oh yeah, you join too. Both my kids in a hug, how about that?”
Peter felt Harley join in the hug and melted into the embrace of two of the most important people in his life.
