Chapter 1: First day

Chapter Text

The sound of the alarm echoed in the room, causing Parrot to wake up. The early morning made him drowsy as he stared at the wall opposite from him. A few minutes later, he rose up from the bed while yawning.

It was Monday, a day that Parrot used to love during his middle school days. Parrot turned around to look at his messy bed before folding the blankets and tidying it. He sighed softly, hating the day before it even began.

The house was deafeningly quiet, but Parrot had gotten used to this long ago. It’s not because the fact that he’s alone, but rather the fact that everyone is soundly asleep. After all, Parrot is the early bird in this house, well a brother younger than him is earlier, but whatever. His mother had likely left for work out of town. She barely came back home, leaving Parrot to take care of his younger siblings.

However before doing anything else, he had to get ready himself. Taking a shower, brushing his teeth, and putting on the uniform of his new high school. He used to study in a private school, but he never liked studying there so he begged his mother to put him into a public school that his other siblings studied in.

Parrot decided to wake his siblings up, starting off with the end demon’s bedroom. He stood in front of the door, knocking three times as the sound echoed in the house. Knock, knock, knock. Yet, there was no response or a single sound coming from that door. He started to get tad a bit worried, deciding to open the door.

The middle child’s room looked fancy and tidied, however the bed was a mess. A desk in the corner had books and undone homework laying around. Parrot’s eyes darted around the room, not a single soul in there, until…

“Bro.” A sound from behind the parrot-avian made him flinched hard, as he jumped, looking behind him. Luckily, it was just Wemmbu with his uniform on. Everything clean and neat, except his long-purple hair that is messily tied. His pitch black with purple pupils that seemed to stare into his soul.

Parrot looked up at the boy in front of him, remembering when Wemmbu was shorter and Parrot kept teasing him about it. Well, not anymore. Parrot groaned before looking back with his pitch black eyes and white pupils back. “Wemmbu, I told you to not creep up behind me like that!” He scolded his younger brother as he slowly calmed down from the shock.

“Yeah, yeah. I just wanted to take my bag and leave.” Wemmbu rolled his eyes before pushing past Parrot and grabbing his bag, intending to quickly leave, but Parrot blocked the way. “Wemmbu-dude. What’s gotten you in a hurry today? Don’t tell me you’re in a gang or dealing drugs…” Parrot said warily. Back in late middle school and early high school, Wemmbu used to be very ‘gangster-like’, but stopped when his best friend, Egg told him to.

Wemmbu groaned loudly, as he held put on his bag on one of his shoulders. “Look, it’s NOTHING.” He had a frown on his face, not wanting his older brother to mind his business. Parrot sighed as he moved slightly to let Wemmbu go.

“Don’t forget to eat breakfast at school. I don’t want you starving in the morning.” Parrot said as Wemmbu walked down the stairs, preparing to open the front door. He took a glance at his older brother and left with a click of the door closing, not even saying a “goodbye”.

Parrot stared at the door for a while, a slight look of worry in his face before turning towards the other room of the brother who was older than Wemmbu, but younger than Parrot. He did the same thing as he did with Wemmbu’s door and no response as well. He opened the door, looking around as he immediately noticed a sleeping nether demon on a bed.

Parrot looked down at the boy, walking towards the bed then gently shaking the demon awake. As usual, the boy would quickly be alerted before calming down. Flamefrags stared at his older brother before speaking. “Ugh, waking up to a bird on the side of the bed everyday.” He complained before getting up. “I’m up, I’m up. You can get out now.”

Flamefrags left the room, probably going to the bathroom to get ready for school as he pushed past Parrot harshly. Harsher than Wemmbu actually. Parrot could only stand still as he watch the other brother leave the room. He glanced around the room, it looked messy, but yet clean.

After a few moments, he walked out the room and closed the door as quiet as possible because he still had one last brother left to deal with this time. The youngest brother’s room was the farthest because the brother claimed that it was for his privacy. “I wonder if he’s awake…” Parrot thought to himself.

He decided to open the door without knocking, expecting an awakened Spoke. However, upon opening the door, he saw Spoke laying down on the bed as if sleeping. Weird... Spoke would usually be the first to wake up or not sleep at all, he just doesn’t leave his room.

Parrot walked up to the bed and sat on the edge, staring at his youngest brother before finally waking him up. “Spoke?” He said quietly, wondering if Spoke’s really asleep. Spoke suddenly jointed up from the bed, his eyes darting around the room as if expecting something before noticing his oldest brother, Parrot.

Spoke looked at Parrot in confusion before giving an awkward smile. “Uh, good morning?” As he grabbed his rainbow bandana on the drawer beside his bed, Parrot stood up and gestured at the calendar on Spoke’s untidied desk. “Spoke, it’s your first day of high school…” Parrot said in tone that said “did you really forgot that”

Spoke stared at Parrot in shock before laughing sheepishly. “Parrot, I knew that! Hah…” He said, tying the bandana around his head. He rose up from the bed, leaving the room to get ready. Parrot followed behind, watching his steps, trying to not step on the books that are scattered across the room.

As soon as Parrot left the room, he noticed that Flame had already worn his uniform and is preparing to leave the house. He gave his brother a smile, waving a goodbye. They all go to the same school, just that they refused to leave all together at the same time. “Do not skip breakfast, Flame!” He yelled for Flame to hear. Flame just looked at him and nodded in response, leaving the house as well.

Parrot decided to comb his green-colored hair one last time in front of the mirror inside his room, then adjusting the tie on his uniform. He grabbed his backpack, walking down the stairs before turning behind. “Spoke, I’m leaving! Don’t forget to lock the door when you leave!” He yelled before quickly exiting house, leaving the voidling alone in home.

Wemmbu walked to school in silence, looking around his surroundings as he had nothing to do. He never left the house this early in morning, but his friend suggested that they could have time more together if they just go to school early. The sun hitting his face as he walked.

Finally, reaching his friend’s house. He knocked a few times, in case if his friend’s parents are home. Fortunately, he was right and Eggchan’s mother opened the door. The angel’s mother smiled at Wemmbu, however it didn’t reach her eyes. The mother’s wings seemed to be rather more blue than Egg’s, but who cares.

“Oh! It’s you! You must be really close to my son. He’s coming. I’ll tell him to come downstairs.” The angel closed the door almost immediately after she spoke. As soon as the door was closed, Wemmbu couldn’t help, but show a frown on his face. The angel likely didn’t like Wemmbu because he was a demon and that kind of bothered him a bit.

A while later; longer than Wemmbu expected, Egg finally opened the door with his hair looking neat, having his usual rather graceful look in the morning. Wemmbu could Practically see the mother staring at him from behind with a look that made him uncomfortable. “Hey, bro.” Eggchan greeted Wemmbu as usual, closing the door behind him before walking towards his demon friend.

“Sup, Egg” Wemmbu and Egg started walking to school together. Usually Wemmbu would talk about how annoying people are in school or normal stuff in general, but today, he was unusually quiet. After a while of walking in silence, A voice finally broke the deafening lack of sound. “Uh, so did your mother say anything about me?” Wemmbu asked, having a guess why Egg took so long.

EggChan thought as he stared down the ground. “How did you know?” He asked, not wanting to talk about it, but he also wanted to complain about it. “Well, I got to say she’s honestly annoying.” Egg said in a tone that sounded frustrated. “She told me that I should never be friends with a demon.”

“Telling ‘bout me some “do you want to ruin your life?” Or something.” Wemmbu listened, clearly expecting that as he responded back to Egg. “What does she want from me!” Wemmbu groaned after hearing what Eggchan’s mother said about him. The sound of the two voices and their footsteps were the only sound at the moment since The students who lived in this neighborhood were types of students who would go to school by thirty minutes late.

After walking for about five minutes, they finally reached the school entrance. Egg hummed quietly as they walked inside the school. A few of the students were already here in the early morning. Clownpriece and Ashswagg were talking near the school entrance. Egg and Wemmbu avoided them and walked away, those two were people who you shouldn’t mess with.

Wemmbu paid no mind when they took a glance at the end demon, however for the angel, he shifted uncomfortably beside Wemmbu as he avoided looking at them. “Yo, what class do we have today?” Egg asked. Wemmbu opened his bag, taking out the class schedule to check. “Uh, we got only three classes together today…” Wemmbu said, feeling slightly upset that he only got a few classes with his best friend.

“At least, we got classes together this year. I hope that eleventh grade is better than last year.” Egg had rather an interesting eleventh grade which he will rather die than relive. Wemmbu laughed, remembering how bad it was before sitting on bench. “Yeah, that was bad for you!” Egg rolled his eyes, sitting beside him before noticing his purple hair.

Egg stared at it before turning to Wemmbu. “Did you not do your hair properly today?” Wemmbu stopped laughing as his eyes turned to try and look at his messily-tied hair. He completely forgot that he was going to ask Egg if he could tie it for him. Egg didn’t have to ask, standing up to do Wemmbu’s hair.

The reason Wemmbu didn’t do his hair properly isn’t because he was lazy, but rather because he didn’t know how to. Even if he did try to do it properly, it would take about three hours minimum. He shifted his position slightly for Egg to tied his hair easier. He hummed silently before speaking up. “Yo, wanna stop by the library after school?”

As Egg finished tying the hair, his face immediately lit up in excitement. “Yeah, bro!” He and Wemmbu used to go to the library together back in middle school, but slowly stop since they were getting busy with assignments, so it was refreshing to go together again.

Wemmbu and Egg sat in silence together. Wemmbu was humming a song, his eyes darted around the place as Egg held a book and his Quill. Egg suddenly asked, breaking the silence. “Do you think we’ll get new students this year? I mean… not only the new tenth graders.” He turned his head to look at Wemmbu as Wemmbu stopped humming and thought for a moment.

“Duh, obviously. My older brother and my younger brother are moving to this school as well.” Wemmbu mentioning his brothers who are other than Flame surprised Egg slightly. “You got other siblings other than Flame? What are their names?” Egg asked, clearly interested in Wemmbu’s family life.
“My younger brother, Spoke is… in tenth grade while my older brother, Parrot is in twelfth grade.” Wemmbu casually mentioned, looking at Egg as he looked at his hair, checking if it’s alright. “Parrot? I think I heard of that name before…” Egg slowly mumbled to himself, trying to search for the reason why the “Parrot” name sounded so familiar. He didn’t know Spoke though.

Egg soon let out a long “oh” as he remembered. Parrot was one of the smartest kids in the small town they lived. He heard about some “Parrot is studying in a private school!” And a “you should more like the kid named Parrot in our town!” From his mother. Egg stared at Wemmbu, trying think about the similarities Wemmbu had with his brother.

“How are you guys even related…?” Egg asked jokingly Wemmbu let out a gasp as he looked sarcastically shocked. “Egg, How can you say that?” Egg and Wemmbu ended up bursting into loud laughter for a while after that.

Flame entered the school slightly later than Wemmbu. Most students can’t tell where he’s looking because of his blindfold. He looked at his surroundings. It was surprising that he can still see with that blindfold on his face. Flame didn’t had lots of friends, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any.

Flame went straight to his locker, preparing to take some books for today’s classes. Opening his locker was like like opening a door to wild jungle. His locker was messy, but he didn’t care. he never had time to organize it. He began looking at his new class schedule. He silently wondered if he had got classes with his friend.

“Yo, Flame.” A sound behind Flame made him turn around in quick timing before calming down at the sight of friend. Lomedy, a guy with fluffy brown hair and golden amber eyes stared at him with a casual and carefree expression.

Flame and Lomedy had been friends since tenth grade. That’s only a year, but it’s okay. Flame got along with him during a group project. At first, he felt annoyed at having to do a group project, but now he was grateful that he did.

“Uh, yeah bro?” Flame turned around, closing his locker before he did. Lomedy checked the time before looking back at his friend who was in front of him. “I saw that, bro. That Locker as messy as last year.” He bluntly spoke, his eyes darting towards the locker at the right side of Flame. He had small grin on his face, amused by the fact.

Flame stared at Lomedy for a few seconds before letting out a sigh. “Yeah, yeah. I know…” He said, admitting defeat before Lomedy laughed. After a few minutes, Lomedy stopped “You can continue getting your books or whatever. I’ll be beside ya.” Said Lomedy back in his usual soft -spoken tone. He checked his phone. I don’t know why and Lore-accurate Lomedy probably won’t, but whatever.

Flame went back trying to find the books which weren’t arranged and were a pain to find. Lomedy scrolled on his phone for a moment before speaking up. “Dude, do you know these people?” He said, before showing his phone to Flame. It was the results of the Students who were able to pass the entrance exam of the school.

What lomedy was talking were two people who shared the same family name as Flame, asides from Wemmbu. Flame turned around to look at the phone before turning back to his books. “Those two are my siblings.” Lomedy was surprised as he lowered his hand. “I didn’t know you got siblings other than Wemmbu!”

Lomedy continued to check the list of names. “These guys are named Parrot… And Spoke?” He muttered as he read. “Oh, so Spoke’s your younger brother! And Parrot’s… Older?” He said,
Looking up from his phone. Flame just hummed and nodded in response. He finally got his books and quickly closed his locker to talk to his friend.

“Hm… I can’t wait to see your siblings! I wonder if they’re cool…” Lomedy said in excitement. He was a child of a farmer who lived near the countryside. He was someone who loves children and treats them like his own siblings. He grew up, taking care of the children of his older sister. Basically taking care of his nieces and nephews.

Lomedy was as excited to meet the younger one as much as the older one. He wasn’t sure how the older brother was like. “Parrot could be anything! Strict, distant, rude- okay… maybe I should be more positive about this.” Lomedy thought. “How about Spoke? He could be a nice kid-! or moody teenager…”

Flame knew that Lomedy loved children, but his younger brother was troublemaker. Not a big troublemaker, but still is. His older brother was cool and all, but to Flame, Parrot was… a bit soft and too much of a nice guy to him. “You’ll probably meet them later on, bro. I guess they’re nice.” Flame shrugged. Like bro. Like bro. Like bro.

The two friends talk to each other for a moment before another duo walked passed them. It was Wemmbu and Egg. Egg nor Lomedy didn’t pay much attention to each other, but they gave a polite wave and a smile. However, Wemmbu and Flame gave each other a glare. Despite being twins, they never get along.

The two had fights, at least twice a day. It’s often about who or who is better though. Ever since they were children, Parrot would often have to break one of their fights that eventually went too far each time and scold them about it. None of the two listened and continued every time.

Egg nudged Wemmbu by the shoulder, forcing him to look away as they walk. Wemmbu would sigh and continue his topic of what he was talking about. Flame only stared at Wemmbu before back at Lomedy who gave him a deadpanned expression. “I thought you two were on good terms now! Still on it?” Lomedy sounded slightly disappointed.

Flame shrugged it off once more. “Nah, bro. Gotta let him know who’s the best.” He said as nonchalant as he could be. Lomedy sighed. “You got to be kidding me…” He muttered, clearly been through this before. Not once and not just twice.

“Whatever, bro. My first class is biology. Yours?” Lomedy checked his schedule as he waited for an answer from Flame. “Oh, I got Mathematics.” Flame said, frowning slightly when he found out that he didn’t get to study with his friend on the first period.

Lomedy looked saddened, but didn’t care as much, they’ll meet later on anyway. “Oh, okay. See you!” He waved with a smile. “Bye.” Flame waved back with a smile as well as they both parted their ways to go to their classes.

On the way to Flame’s class, he noticed a vibrant-colored avain with wings. It was his older brother. He was holding a map, looking around. “Bro is lost…” Flame thought before his older brother eventually found his classroom. Flame also entered his mathematics classroom soon later.

Spoke barely made it to school on time. He entered the school, noticing that a few people are still looking around, probably searching for their rooms. He closed the door, taking out a map himself to look for his class. The voidling searched around for only a few minutes, then finding his class, unlike someone…

The classroom was already filled with students. There was only one seat left for him in the last row. A student sat beside the empty chair; Red sweater, dark brown hair, red devil horns. Spoke guessed the guy was a nether demon. There are many species here after all.

Spoke walked over to the desk. He gave the guy a polite smile; even though, it looked too sharp. “Hey, can I sit here?” Spoke asked, trying to use a friendly tone. The guy looked unsure, but nodded in response anyway. Spoke didn’t think much of it, as long as he doesn’t get yelled as a response.

Since the teacher hadn’t come yet, Spoke decided to talk to the guy beside him. “What’s your name?” He asked, putting up his usual polite, yet sharp smile. The nether demon looked slightly awkward, but eventually spoke. “Uh, Mapicc. Yours?”

“Spoke!”
