“Why does your mother have to live in such a cold place,” Ryan asked, as Jack handed him his duffle bag.
“She wanted the mountains,” Jack replied with a shrug, “I didn't realize that meant buying a ski resort in Colorado.”
“You were always such an oblivious son,” Mama Pattillo said walking from the porch of her cabin. Her smile was warm though and she waited for Jack to bend down so that she could kiss his forehead. She let Jack return to handing out the luggage and took each boy down the line and kissed their foreheads.
“I’ve got a cabin all ready for you boys,” she said. “Also your uncle may have sent something special for you boys when I told him you were coming to visit me,” she added with a smile. “You should give him a visit on the way back to Texas,” she said offhandedly but Jack knew that was an order.
“Yes Mama,” Jack replied and didn’t bother meeting her hard look at his tone.
“Dude,” Michael said, “don’t disrespect Mama Pattillo.”
“That’s right Michael,” she smiled to him and he smiled back, “you’re mamma raised you right.”
“And the world still wonders where you went wrong with me,” Jack teased.
“Not enough whacks to your bum when you were a child,” Mama Pattillo said but it was interwoven with a laugh. Jack closed the trunk of his SUV and lifted his duffle bag to follow his lovers to the ATVs. They drove down a paved road for a bit, passing other cars and ATV’s, before it they came upon a cabin, set a good distance away from the rest. “This is as private as the associations would agree too,” Mama Pattillo said, “safety distance and all that other stuff you boys aren’t interested in.”
“You could have put us in the boiler room and we’d be happy,” Ryan said with a smile.
“You’re a Georgia peach Ryan,” Ray said, “anywhere colder than 93 is reason for you to want a boiler room.”
Gavin chuckled along with Geoff and Michael squeezed Ray’s hand. Ryan stuck his tongue out playfully and Jack just shook his head. It was a habit he got from his mother since she too was shaking her head at the boys. “’ll leave you boys to get comfortable,” she said, pressing the key into Jack’s palm, “there’s some lasagna in the fridge if you don’t feel like coming into the eatery tonight.”
“Thanks mamma,” Jack said, pressing a kiss to her cheek like a good son.
“I’m glad you boy are here,” she admitted, “just keep anything mind-scaring in the dressers. Good cleaning staff has been hard to find around here lately.”
Gavin nodded but Michael just hit him in the arm. Gavin turned to him confused. “It’s not like she doesn’t know,” Gavin told him, failing to be quiet about it.
“Thank you,” she said giving both young lads a smile, “and just ask for Danny in rentals tomorrow if you want to hit the trails early in the morning.”
“Will do,” Geoff said and she headed back up the trail, leaving the other three ATV’s for them.
“I love your mom,” Ray said as Jack unlocked the cabin.
“Me too,” Jack replied.
“She wasn’t talking about your Uncle Bud was she,” Ryan asked.
“If she was, cover the lad’s eyes because christ-knows what he left,” Geoff said, walking back towards the ATV to grab his and Gavin’s second bags.
“I hope its candy,” Ray said, mockingly like a five year old. The guys laughed and Jack flipped on the light at the door.
From the doorway one could look out the large windows at the other end of the cabin and view the mountain’s rising and falling. The fire in the cabin was already lit, but low. Down the hallway, which had two doors on the left and one door on the right before it reached into an open kitchen and living room floor plan. One of the doors on the left lead to the bedroom, with a master suite of its own and the other was a spare bedroom. The door on the right lead to another bathroom that had a door that lead into the garage space of the cabin for the ATV’S.
Gavin slipped in with a smile and threw his duffle bag to the ground. He ran and leapt onto the sofa, which had a fur blanket draped over it. Gavin rolled onto his back, ruining the smooth look and he sighed. “So comfy,” he moaned. Jack picked up the duffle bag as he went. Ryan grabbed both Ray and Michael’s from where, they too, dropped them. Once free of his baggage, Michael leaped to the sofa, landing on top of Gavin with a chuckle. Gavin gave an ‘oof’ and then another when Ray scrambled over the back of the sofa to lay on both of them.
Geoff opened the door to the master bedroom and the there gents entered, listening to their lovers chatter. They put the bags by the bed and before Ryan pointed out a box on top of the dresser.
“Must be Uncle Buds gift,” Jack said.
“I claim it,” Geoff said and like a kid he raced over to open it up. The lid came off easily and he whistled, looking inside it. “Your uncle never ceases to amaze me,” Geoff commented.
“Lube and condoms,” Jack asked from the doorway of the bathroom he was checking out.
“And a whole lot of other neat toys,” Geoff said wickedly. “Hurry and hide these,” Geoff said handing the box to Ryan, who looked inside.
“Is that glass,” Ryan asked, poking at an object in the box.
“Well we won’t use that one,” Geoff said, “but check out the others!”
“The lads are going hate us,” Ryan said.
“And by hate you mean, be withering masses of sex under us,” Geoff giggled evilly.
Jack took the box and had a quick look as he put it under the sink area. They’d move it before tomorrow but for now Geoff was intent on keeping it a secret. Jack had to admit, his uncle always surprised them with his “gifts”. (Jack was pretty happy to have had a family member who was once part of a commune for when fights or disagreements pop up between the boys. Going to him for advice on situations was so much easier that way.)
“This bed is huge,” Ryan said.
“Mom was telling me that she had to special order some beds for these cabins,” Jack said coming from the bathroom, “check out our jacuzzi tub by the way.” Geoff poked his head in and gave another whistle.
“How come we haven’t visited Mama Pattillo before now,” Geoff asked.
“Because we have jobs,” Ryan said lazily as he scooted himself up the large bed to rest against pillows. Jack slide up next to him and gave him a kiss.
“How’s your back doing,” Jack asked quietly while Geoff explored the large bathroom.
“I’ll take some meds tonight and be right as rain in the morning,” Ryan mumbled, “but the drive hurt.”
“I’ll put more wood on the fire,” Jack said, “you should go out and get the boys to take care of you.”
“Maybe,” Ryan said, “but it’s warm on these covers.”
Jack chuckled. “Alright,” he said, “I’ll grab you a plate of lasagna and bring you some water for pills.” Ryan hummed at that idea and Jack left his lover to relax in the pillows.
He walked out to find Michael pressing Ray against he glass in a make-out session, with Gavin over the arm of the sofa, watching. Jack was positive that if Gavin had a tail, it would have been wagging. He walked to the fridge and opening it drew Gavin’s attention to him.
“Food,” Gavin asked, strutting his way over to the bar/counter they had. Jack nodded.
“Yeah, for Ryan,” Jack said, “he’s hitting the bed early tonight.”
“He alright,” Gavin asked.
“His back,” Jack said and Gavin nodded.
Gavin chattered to Jack as he unwrapped the dish and filled a plate to stick in the microwave. Geoff appeared from the room and went back out to get the beer they’d bought to fill the fridge. Gavin helped but he returned to the counter while Geoff grabbed a cold one and hit the sofa and the flat screen over the fireplace. When the food was heated Jack grabbed up a glass of water he had ready and headed back to the room.
Gavin followed and opened the door at Jack’s request. Ryan was still leaning back but his eyes were closed. Jack walked over and placed the plate down and the glass of water. Ryan opened his eyes at the light clinking of the plate. “Sorry,” he mumbled.
Jack shook his head in response. “I brought food,” he said, “and water if you haven’t taken the Naproxen yet.” Ryan gave a guilty look to Jack’s narrowed eyes. “Eat a little something,” he said, “you’ll have nausea in the morning if you don’t.”
Gavin had crawled up the bed and snuggled gently into Ryan’s side. Ryan gave him a smile before turning to Jack. “You brought me a Gavin as well,” he teased.
“I’m here to make sure you eat and feel better,” Gavin said.
“Don’t stress him,” Jack ordered to Gavin but Ryan waved the worry away.
“I’m not dying you know,” Ryan said.
Jack looked a little scolded but he pointed at the food. “At least half the plate Ryan,” he ordered.
“Yes sir,” Ryan replied and his smirk was sly. Jack shivered at being called sir but he didn’t take the bait. Jack told Gavin not to keep Ryan awake all night but from the way the lad was yawning Jack didn’t think Gavin would be up much longer than Ryan.
“Love you both,” Jack said.
“Love you too,” Ryan said and Gavin mumbled it at the same time, his face buried into Ryan’s warm chest. Jack shut the door behind him after he saw Ryan pick up the plate and start to eat.
