The Archive of Our Own Reaches Seven Million Fanworks!

The OTW is thrilled to announce that AO3 has reached seven million fanworks! That averages out to around 1700 fanworks a day since AO3 first went online on November 14, 2009. AO3 hit its first million fanworks only seven years ago, on February 15, 2014, and since then it’s grown exponentially, hitting three million fanworks on April 28, 2017, and five million fanworks on July 20, 2019.

AO3 also recently hit three million registered users on November 26, 2020.

We could not be more grateful for all the users and creators who make this possible. Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful fanworks with us!

  People can write what they want - I may not agree with all of it, but I just choose not to read that particular work. banning things is censorship, and Ao3 is against that, and for that I'm incredibly grateful.

        When you create an account, you agree to the Terms of Service, which haven't changed since 2017. Because you created an account you agreed to: “You understand that using the Archive may expose you to material that is offensive, triggering, erroneous, sexually explicit, indecent, blasphemous, objectionable, grammatically incorrect, or badly spelled,” and “Unless it violates some other policy, we will not remove Content for offensiveness, no matter how awful, repugnant, or badly spelled.”
        You actively agreed to that by going out of your way to create an account. You use this account to make comments like “wow what an achievement” and call people names, but immature comments like that carry the same weight if you did not have account and were ‘anonymous’.
        Logically, the only way to support to the rules of this site are to agree with them, which you must do when you create an account. ‘Anonymous’ commenters, readers, and people leaving kudos, never go out of their way to pledge their support to the AO3’s mission the way you did and still do.
        Logically, AO3 isn’t the only archive out there; Fanfiction.net is a very large, very active archive tat doesn’t house the content that you hate. You could go there. But you don’t. You use AO3. What do you think that says about you?
