Problems with imports from FF.net

As a number of users have already noticed, imports from Fanfiction.net are not working at present. Our coders have investigated, and it seems that FF.net is blocking requests from our servers. We're not sure at this stage whether this is specifically directed at us or whether it's a side effect of some other action; either way, it's not an issue that we can fix on our end. We're currently reaching out to the folks at Fanfiction.net to see whether we can resolve the problem; however, at present we don't have any ETA for a fix.

We apologise for the inconvenience - thanks for your patience while we figure out this issue!

ETA: This problem also affects bookmarking of works hosted on FF.net, since making an external bookmark involves pinging the site to check it's a valid url. We'll keep you updated as we figure out ways forward with this problem.

I'm sorry..if I want to post here a work I already have posted on ff.net, can I copy and paste it?? Or is it forbidden?

  You can do it, if you bypass FF.Net's ridiculous copy-paste block, which is extremely unethical on their part. That's easily enough done by clicking to view source and copy-pasting from there if you don't have the original document. It is not forbidden to post a story here that you previously posted to the other site - FF.net are just trying to make it harder for authors to cross-post. My belief is that they're doing that to try to discourage people who have already uploaded their fics to their site from posting them to any others, by making it time-consuming and awkward. Which, as I've said, is very unethical on their part.
  Your fics are your fics. So long as you don't start asking money for them without getting permission from the original copyright holder for your canon, you can post them to whatever fanfiction site you care to, and fanfiction.net have absolutely no right to say otherwise.

  There is a new way to import from FFN
  Type in M.gofanfiction.club/s/(FFN story Id) into your browser then copy/paste the link in to the AO3 Import tool

Two possible fixes for us.
1. As a writer on FF.net when we click on one of our own stories we are given an option to "Download" our story which is saved in an HTML format (one long file) with all formatting and such intact. So, I can save this file to my local system and then your genius software wizards could accept this file in via a browser upload and parse it into the appropriate basic HTML tags you accept and give us a file to work from.
2. A second choice (my personal preference) is that, like above, authors on FF.net go into our stories, and click on "Content/Chapters" for our story, then choose "Download" for each chapter saving it as a file on our local system. Then AO3, again thanks to their wizard programmers, would accept that file in, adjusting the HTML tags and producing a chapter that AO3 would accept.
3. Another choice might be to permit the uploading of standardized wordprocessing docs such as {Open|Libre}Office docs where the formatting is clearly defined and strip out all but the basics.

  As authors we can ALSO copy and paste from our original Word docs, just saying XD
  Also, when we click on Manage Stories, and click on our own stories, we can copy and paste from the Preview option

    That assumes you have the original Word docs - some of my fics are over a decade and 5 different computers old, and I've had my laptop stolen twice! =P For many of my older stories I simply don't have the original documents any longer. And I'm certain I'm not the only one in that position, among writers who have been in fandom for 10+ years.
    I still think FFnet are behaving very unethically over all this, & frankly, I'd consider it nothing more than even if AO3 decided to circumvent that block. The stories do not belong to FFnet.

  You can from mobile. Not ideal but you can use it to copy to GDocs or Word and then open the file on your computer

For all those talking about moving their stuff from FFN, it's kind of a pain but there is a way! If you go to your own fic (not someone else's), you can hit "Download" and it shows you the whole document in a format that allows you to copy and paste it. Not as smooth as importing it but totally an option. :)

To any author who still wants to import their works, it doesn't look like the issue's been resolved yet, but if you're the og author,
publish > manage stories > select a story > content/chapters > export
This will make a copy of the chapter in your Doc Manager, and you can copy-paste it onto the Archive from there.
