We're excited to announce the opening of applications for:

We have included more information on each role below. Open roles and applications will always be available at the volunteering page. If you don't see a role that fits with your skills and interests now, keep an eye on the listings. We plan to put up new applications every few weeks, and we will also publicize new roles as they become available.

TWC Volunteer Copyeditor

Transformative Works and Cultures (TWC) is an international peer-reviewed Gold Open Access online publication about fan-related topics that seeks to promote dialogue between the academic community and fan communities. Copyeditors professionally copyedit submissions for TWC according to Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) 17, Merriam-Webster online, and the TWC style guide. Editorial standards are those of a university press. Applicants are required to pass a brief test. All returned tests will be assessed and the applicant provided with feedback.

TWC Volunteer Proofreader

Transformative Works and Cultures (TWC) is an international peer-reviewed Gold Open Access online publication about fan-related topics that seeks to promote dialogue between the academic community and fan communities. Proofreaders carefully proofread the final online HTML-tagged manuscripts for online publication according to Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) 17, Merriam-Webster online, and the TWC style guide. Editorial standards are those of a university press. Applicants are required to pass a brief test. All returned tests will be assessed and the applicant provided with feedback.

  TWC's current publishing schedule results in Copyeditors mainly working from Jan 15th-Feb 15th and July 15th-Aug 15th while Proofreaders mainly work from Feb 1st-Feb 12th and August 1st-12th. Volunteers have the ability sit out an issue if necessary.

I'd love to help proofread 4 fan fiction writers online but this sounds way too formal for me. I'm loving not having all the hard formality of forms and deadline. I'm a retired educator with free education degrees but I don't want to do anything that formal.

  TWC’s current publishing schedule results in Copyeditors mainly working from Jan 15th-Feb 15th and July 15th-Aug 15th while Proofreaders mainly work from Feb 1st-Feb 12th and August 1st-12th. Volunteers fit in what work they can complete during that timeframe.

Is there any way you could give me some kind of guide as to how to work all of this? The formal writing is very confusing. If there was some way you could give me some resources on this, I'd love to go over it and hopefully apply once I feel I know the ropes better :)

Good morning,
I am considering of applying. But, I would like to know how much time does it take to copy editing or proofreading a work. I currently have a day job, often finish late.
I don't want to abandon due to my lack of thinking.
