Archive of Our Own among TIME's '50 Best Websites 2013'

The Organization for Transformative Works was pleased to learn that one of our projects, the Archive of Our Own, has been named among the '50 Best Websites 2013' by TIME magazine staff. We are excited to be included in this list and in the company of a number of other great websites.

We would like to extend a thank you to OTW members whose generosity has helped to support the continued development of the AO3 and to AO3 users who provide the content that helps make it one of the 'Best Websites'. We look forward to continuing to build the AO3 to make it even better in the years to come.

I wonder how the author got the impression content here is a) curated and b) only fic. Well okay, not honestly wondering about b) but I was actually taken aback by the curating bit.

  I've seen "curated" used to mean, as you note, "selecting specific content" (which, lol, firehose), but I've also seen it used (less commonly) to mean "making things findable and organized". Individual judgments regarding the tag system aside, it is, per that latter meaning, much more curated than when fandom was only scattered between LJ, DW, and all the individual websites, forums, newsgroups, mailing lists...

    Ah, possibly! Which would make the users the curators? I think that didn't occur to me because it lists organization and search functionality separately.

Congratulations on being listed on Time Magazines top 50 websites. I love this site. It is user friendly. I have many writer and artist friends who love how this site is set up, and how easy it is for them to post their works.

Y'all have worked hard to transform this site. Congrats on the Kudos from Time Magazine, it's well deserved!!!! I love the changes and appreciate the hard work it must have taken to achieve these results - I happen to know just enough about the intricacies and difficulties of web design to say 'I'm in awe.' Don't know if y'all actually take the time to read these comments, but WhoooooooooHooooooo!!!!!!!!!! -clears throat, looks around, grins- Ok I'm all better now. -chuckle-
