To start off, I’ll recommend some DC and DC x MCU crossover fics.
1) Kay, so this is Peter the Pizza Guy by Irisen. https://archiveofourown.org/works/37223179
It’s a MCU x DC Crossover story where Peter, after the snap from Infinity War, gets sucked into the DC universe. After being homeless for a while, Peter becomes a pizza guy to the best chain in Gotham that luckily, if he wears the jacket, it’s so well recognized as a chain that he won’t get attacked.
He still goes and enters a fighting ring for money and stuff because well, it’s Gotham and you need all the money you can get. Oh! And he’s also friends with Jason Todd, and not really friends with the other BatFam characters. Like, at all. Super good, read it all in seven hours. It also got me to start eating pizza like how Dick does it in the story.
Ongoing. 40 chapters, 206,180 words. No ships.

2) The next one would be Existential Crisis Mode by LuciaInTheSky, https://archiveofourown.org/works/55345306
It’s a Jason Todd/Peter Parker fic! Peter falls into a portal and lands directly in Jason’s apartment. Jason lets him stay after a wacky first meeting (Peter using web shooters to take and break Jason’s gun,) and after a while Peter becomes a vigilante again, and teams up with Red Hood. The quote of the series is, “He doesn’t know that I know.” Take that as you will. Also, the fan art is adorable, plus there’s a fake relationship between Jason and Peter before they actually start dating. Still not dating yet though. It’s kind of a slow burn.
Ongoingish. It’s a series I think, but on a small break. I didn’t really understand what the author was trying to explain.

it’s a Soulmate AU in Tim Drake’s pov.
Lots of miscommunication, it’s not a romance slow burn, but a secret reveal slow burn. As in Tim never revealed he was soulmates with the rest of the BatFam due to getting wrapped up in the belief that he was unreciprocated. It kinda made me rip my hair out because of the emotion you can feel, and how damn slow Tim was at times XD . It’s good, though! Great even! It updates every Friday. Hey, that’s tomorrow!

4) Whiskey Burns by R3DLEMONADE. Honestly, Red’s stuff is already really good, totally recommend checking his stuff out! But, I have been absorbed into the world where Whiskey will Burn me. It’s a Peter Parker/Jason Todd fic. Peter Parker is Spider-Man and Jason is Red Hood. What’s fun is that they keep running into each other as their civilian identities, and don’t know the other is a vigilante!

5) So, this fanfic is actually what sparked me getting an AO3 account and to even start writing in the first place. The story is peak, too.

He gets wings and can screech really loudly, and basically does everything a screech owl can do. He gets adopted by Aizawa Shota and Yamada Hizashi. He’s basically brothers with Hawks, and this story is just.. Perfection, in my opinion.
Complete. 38 chapters, 83,141 words. The ships are Kaminari Denki/Midoriya Izuku, Hitoshi Shinso/Todoroki Shoto, and Aizawa Shota/Yamada Hizashi.

6) (How To) Forgive and Forget by Legal_Kidnapping.

Izuku Midoriya befriends and becomes found family with the League Of Villains after getting kidnapped by them. It’s not Stockholm Syndrome, Izuku is just done with the pressures of society and as it turns out, he really resonates with society’s outlaws. It also turns out that the hero kid really has a lot more in common than they thought originally.
Complete. 87 chapters. 223,525 words. No ships.

7) Lost And Found by Versatility. It is also a LOV and Izuku story where they become found family after Izuku runs away from being a hero and is forgotten by everyone when he does so. He leaves behind clues if anyone wants to find him, but as it turns out, it’s not his friends that finds him, it’s the League of Villains! Found family is an amazing trope in my personal opinion.

I love Dream’s character in this, he’s chaotic good but also a gremlin without meaning to. Nightmare himself is also relatable, too.

A fic where Max gets adopted by David after his parents abandoned him during his time at a summer camp. I don’t want to spoil too much, but this story was so good! It’s definitely what Max deserves after dealing with abusive and neglecting parents. It also shows trauma in kids pretty well. I’m kind of sad I read it because now I wish I could reread it for the first time again. David is so patient with Max, despite Max not trusting him, plus, it really shows a lot of sides to their characters, and the adoption process itself is pretty accurate? I’m not sure how it works.
Complete, twenty chapters. 102,957 words. No ships.. Maybe? I can’t remember if David got with someone or if it was just a date. Either way, ships are definitely not the main focus of this story and the date was at the end of the story, like the last few chapters of the story.

- Radio_Deer has always been a dear friend and source of collaborative inspiration for over a decade; his work is always top par. I've been reading his magnum opus The Deer's Den which is a Hazbin Hotel Borrower AU with deeply researched settings of the 1920s. Beautifully written and lovely getting to read alongside him. Ty, friend <3
- Second up is GettingMetaphysical's She Conducts This Rapture.[/url] Another excellent read which not only breaks but redefines beauty standards through Slay the Princess's Damsel. I'm not usually one for a lot of spicy reads, but this here is some top-tier, fully autonomous pure erotica. One of my first reads of this kind and always itching for more in this series.
- I know a lot of people know Aspooky for Fury of a Shattered Mirror, but I actually want to highlight The STP McDonald's fic for a quick, breezy, absolutely hilarious read. It really takes into account the absurdity of many of that world's elements when coming to the existence of other people, and how they would logistically react. This one's definitely in my head rent free, as it should be.
- Gonna add on that Vickysaurus's take on the Princesses and the alternative routes is always lovely, but I've seen few Thorn takes rival the emotion of her miniseries of the Sleeping Mound. I'm partial to the spicy secondary piece, but both have excellent representations of intimate relations post-trauma and the conflict therein, as well as grief and tender polyamory.
First four authors are ones which I have idea swapped and we have worked closely alongside to workshop (I have no direct connection to Deer's Den so much as the author, but that friendship is long-lived & historically literary collaborative). I'm going to offer up one more from someone who I'm not as close to but definitely spoke to me.
Pruning One Last Rose is delightfully tragic. It's an excellent, cannon-compliant character study of STP's Thorn revolving around the question of "what if the possession can happen again in later chapters?" and MerryDreaming absolutely KILLS IT. Heavy angst; painful payoff. All the emotional care and necessity needed to make it hit. I've read this one several months before and it still sticks with me today.

This fic crosses many years and is exceptional at exploring emotions and character development. Possibly my favorite Yuri on Ice fic.

I am sharing my comfortfic. Harry/Voldemort Almagest written by eldritcher.
Summary: "Three men go to the moon to save the world."
This fic is hard to describe. It's a Space AU. Dumbledore kidnaps Harry and Voldemort and they steal a Soyuz from Kazakhstan. I love everything about the fic. The characterizations, the prose, the love stories, the porn, the ending. I am embarassed to say I read it to the point I literally have memorized some sentences.

In no particular order. Less than ten because I haven't read that many bangers recently.
- Where Angels Fear to Tread (Star Trek/Star Wars): I don't normally do optimistic but this is an exception. The protag looks at a shitty world and goes, "we can do better". Also featuring based Plo Koon, the vod, and kicking Dooku in the nuts.
- The World Without Authors (Everything and the kitchen sink too): Madness. Only the author can really appreciate all of it. But I like it and it's my mate Sarge so it deserves a shout out.
- Pokemon Reborn (Pokemon): A gen VII Pokemon fangame in the style of Gen III. Plot's a bit... dark... (some characters have a body count, for example) and it throws a not-small amount of bullshit at you (*cough*that Garchomp*cough*) but it's fun and engaging and its soundtrack is full of bangers.
- Lazarus Shunned (Mass Effect 2): AU where Cerberus' attempt to resurrect Cmdr Jane Shepard goes horribly wrong. Depressing as all hell, but very well written.
- Goldstein (Harry Potter): Yehuda Goldstein is a religious Jew. He's also a wizard. Those things don't really mix well. Well-written and very very sweet. A groise metsieh. But for real, not sarcastically.
- Here Comes The New Boss (Nothing Like The Old Boss) (Worm): Taylor Hebert is Butcher XV. Shenanigans ensue. Well-written, keeps the tension very well, fun read.
- Rebel Archivist (Dragon Age: Inquisition): MCIT, but done well. Protag isn't an immediate badass, instead she's convincingly awesome in a completely different way. Sadly dead.

Fandom: Doki Doki Literature Club!
I have a strange relationship with this fandom. After the big plot twist in canon, it sort of feels to me like there's... kind of nowhere else left to go? But if you ignore it and treat the characters as real people working through mental health issues, it sorta becomes interesting again. This fic does a lot of that in a few words, describing the experience of having anxiety with both realism and empathy, while still making the fluffy payoff convincing.

4. The Intrinsic Bartering Power of Brassica Oleracea: A Study by UmbreonGurl (https://archiveofourown.org/works/55236898)
Fandom: Persona 3
As much as I like reading fluff, it can be difficult to preserve a distinctive character voice (likewise with severe angst, actually.) This fic nails it, taking a one-note joke NPC from canon and turning her into an idiosyncratic but believable protagonist on her own goofy little journey.

Tense, snappy action and characters that are well illustrated in a short time. Fits into its source canon seamlessly.

Tasting the Outer Road: The Outlaw's Guide to Good Gunsmoke Eating by fathomfive (Trigun Maximum, gen, spoilers): This, along with all of this author's fics, genuinely altered my brain chemistry. Taking a meme artwork of "Diners, Drive-ins, and Knives" and turning it into this masterpiece was utter genius. Also, I want to eat the food in this fic.
The Fruit of Our Lives by Limeritry (Trigun Maximum, gen, spoilers): Excellent, heartbreakingly bittersweet post-Trimax fic. Devastating, haunting, gorgeous. Love the worldbuilding.
Give Me Your Name by scheidswrites (Trigun, ambiguous canon, gen): My personal favorite Lina and Eriks fic, with an entertaining narrative voice and sensitive portrayal of Lina's concerns over Eriks.
Oberon's Gunsmith by optimustaud (Trigun 98/Maximum, gen): Pretty biased with this one as I wrote two fics based on it, but it's one of those stories that haunts me. I love outsider POV fics of Vash, and this one nailed it, and portrayed Frank and Brandon Marlon in such a lovely way.
let it spill by dabblingDilettante (Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Dorothea/Leonie): I love all of this author's FE3H works, but this one haunts me to this day. The way both girls are depicted is so raw and real.
The Space Between by rlucine (Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Bernadetta/Dorothea): A beautiful nonlinear fic; this author inspired me to be more experimental with format and take risks, with stunning and unique writing.
Annette Learns How to Ride a Bike! by frackingforaffection (Fire Emblem: Three Houses, gen): A modern AU fic that resonated with me on a deep level due to its realistic depiction of anxiety. This one definitely makes me tear up every time.
i'll be a sky by strikinglight (Fire Emblem Three Houses, Marianne/Claude, spoilers): All of this author's FE3H stories are worth a read, but this one made me bawl my eyes out. So absolutely beautiful, poetic, and human.
Gods by Imaginationstarie13 (Xenoblade Chronicles, gen, spoilers): This may be my favorite fanfic of all time. A beautiful love letter to XC1.
Beyond the Skies Collection by Kneazle-Chan (Xenoblade Chronicles, gen, spoilers): Another little cheat by linking a fic from FFN, but this is genuinely such a fantastic series of one-shots. Every now and then I think about The Impossible Test or Shulk writing notes on his skin. Bummer it was never finished, but happy for what I did get to enjoy.

A beautifully-written canon divergence to the Lewis arc that packs all the hurt/comfort one could want along with the SA recovery. I read this before I really knew the fandom and adored it so much I had to read it three times in 24 hours, so I can testify that you'll get a lot out of it reading fandom-blind.
[Leverage, Eliot/Parker] Feels Like Home by daniellemydear, 80k
A very well-written slow burn that will show you just why this ship works so incredibly well.
* [Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, mainly gen with background Lois/Clark] Fictitious Persons by classicalgal, 146k
This fic has an extremely well-written child MC who travels to an alternate universe. Excellent fandom-blind choice for anyone who loves gen, child characters, and superheroes. You won't get lost as long as you have a basic idea of Superman. Suitable for younger readers.
[Lord of the Rings, gen] The Long Road Home by scribblesinink, 95k
A Boromir Lives fic that is all about guilt and redemption, with some adventure thrown in. The last line gets me wanting to cry every time.

Even without a chapter the author removed (I saved my copy with that chapter in it), this is still a wonderful look at Neo/Trinity and their love from every POV imaginable (if you love outsider POV, this is the fic for you). It takes films 1-3 as canon but was written long before film 4 came out so is not compliant with it.
[The Pretender, Jarod/Miss Parker] Toxic by MMB, 82k
I'd link the magnum opus this author wrote of six fics that wrap up the story post-TV films, but in the interests of sticking with only 10 fanworks I'll just rec this fantastic fic full of A-plot.

Nice and long! Character with a shady past who still has a heart of gold! Team dynamics and found family! Well done build-up to a believable relationship! This one has one chapter left to post, which according to the author is currently being edited.

Learn about the Crusades and love it! Have your heart broken by the tragedies of war! Develop strong opinions on the sacking of Constantinople! Written by a real historian! If this wasn't one of the first fics you read in the fandom, then you've been seriously missing out.

Pining! FWB to lovers! Morning pastries! I know a lot of people talk about The Other Matter by Survivah, but The Dragon is my favourite of theirs.
