Chapter Text
Where the hell am I going.
Tenma Saki walks the white tiled halls, she was on her way to meet her boss, she was supposed to return and report back once every week, it didn't take long but Saki wanted to get back home as soon as possible. She definitely didn't fit in with the rest, black cloaked figures walked next to her and angels with halos shuffled aside. Saki didn't fit in for more than 1 reason and one of them is that she's not like them.
In a normal world of monsters and magic this would sound like a normal day to day experience but Saki didn't belong to a world of monsters and magic. She belonged down in the real world, where her friends are, where her brother is and where the stage was. She didn't belong here in this medieval white hospital like place.
Oh great, as if I needed another reason to hate hospitals...
Saki has been to many hospitals during her life, she was rendered basically useless since she was born, only announced fit when she was 6. When she was 12 she was readmitted into another hospital due to the same issue, her body was too weak to handle the stress of a normal life. She finally got back on her feet when she was 16. Saki enjoyed the rest of her years performing with her friends, until she died.
A car accident that occurred the day after Saki's twentieth birthday spun her life out of control, she was brought to another hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead for 2 minutes.
It was the longest 2 minutes of her life. And within that span she was picked up by who Saki now knows as Momoi Airi. Given the longest brief of her life and thrown back into her body with almost 0 bodily harm. The doctors were all about to give up when Saki's vitals returned to a healthy state and the doctors were able to save Saki from the brink of death.
That was no more than a week ago.
And she has no idea what to make of all of this. Saki was supposed to be dead, she wasn't supposed to be here. Saki continues on her path, apologizing to any soul she might have bumped into on the way. Her name was called a couple a minutes ago and Saki needed to find a pair of large bronze doors.
Which should be easy enough, given how big the doors were supposed to b- Oh, there they are.
Saki marches towards the door, rolling up her sleeves, pushing the giant doors open, sweat dripped down the side of her brow as the door creaked open. Inside hasn't changed her last visit and the blinding white interior was not doing the décor any favors.
"Airi-san? I'm here as you asked."
"Oh, Saki-chan, it's good to see you."
The pink haired girl popped her head out of a cupboard, her hands full of papers. Well, the whole room was full of papers. A seemingly endless room of white filled with an equal amount of papers. The girl was not the tallest and but her voice was one of a kind. She wore a simple doctor's outfit and her pink hair was let down instead of tied up like she normally would.
"Oh, do you need help with them, looks like a lot of trouble."
"No, don't worry about it."
Airi sighs, throwing the stack of papers in her hand away, snapping her fingers. The mess suddenly cleared up and a small coffee table appeared. Around the table were seats for 4 and a impressive stack of biscuits and pastries. A boiling kettle steaming hot and a pot of tea already brewed, Saki helped herself to a glass, pouring one for Airi as well.
"Please, take a seat, I hope if it's no too much if I have 2 more people join us."
Saki nods in response, this is her second time Airi had invited her for tea. The first time was to check up on her and ensure that the conversion process was smooth. Human to reaper conversion business has more paperwork than you'd imagine. Saki thinks back to that day, less than a week ago. How the hell was she supposed to explain all of this to Ichika. Saki had a feeling that Shiho was already onto her new secret and Honami was more worried about Saki than usual.
But what matters the most was Ichika, she can't just go up to her friend and say she died and came back to life. That'll absolutely freak the shit out of her. Or make Saki look like the coolest person in Ichika's life. Saki wouldn't know, Ichika did pick some green hair, twin tailed robot over her once and it made Saki rather jealous that she was so easily replaceable.
Of course, Saki still loved Ichika, and with good reason, Ichika did so much for her and it would be unreasonable to hate her over something so trivial. As Saki shoved a biscuit into her mouth, careful not to get crumbs all over herself, the giant doors behind her opened.
"Hi, Airi. Sorry but we have a crasher."
"I thought if the conversation was about me, I ought to be present."
"Oooh, Airi-chan brought cakes!"
Saki spun her head around to see 3 rather familiar faces. Shiraishi-san wore a casual white polo, striped jeans and a cap over her long black hair. Kiritani-san donned a one piece white dress, making herself look nothing short of an angel. And of course, Hinomori-san wore her full reaper uniform with the cloak and all covering her otherwise casual turquoise dress.
Airi smiles, glad to see her friends, casually materializing another chair for Kiritani-san.
"I guess "Operation: Haruka needs a Holiday" was a success."
"Oh, Haruka-chan was so cute, you really love that girl don't you..."
"Mhmm, she makes me want to pamper her like how you pamper Airi-chan."
"Well, well, Airi-chan is very cute after all~"
Saki watched Hinomori-san walk up to Airi as she very obviously pushed Airi into her chest before rubbing her cheek on the top of Airi's head.
"Gah! I get it!. Let go of me, Shizuku!"
"Look at Airi getting all red, I'm gonna need to take a picture of this."
"Don't you dare, Shiraishi."
"Do it An, I'm gonna need this."
Saki giggles, if anyone were to tell her that this table sat 2 of the strongest beings known, a extraordinary healer and a her childhood friend's older sister who died 3 years ago, Saki would find a hard time just believing the last claim.
"That's what you get for setting me up without telling me anything."
"To be fair, if I hadn't convinced you to take up the job you might still be at home lazing around."
"Yeah! You know how much convincing it took me to convince that stupid ass to let you take a holiday."
"Oh, I'm so sorry Saki-chan. You look uncomfortable her, would you like a hug as well."
"Eh! No, it's fin-Aaah!"
Saki had her head pressed into Hinomori-san's chest as well, a weird experience given that she was Shiho's older sister.
"Stop that Shizuku, or I'll kill you again later."
"Alright~"
"See, Haruka, I told you those 2 were dating."
"You make it sound like I didn't know that already."
Saki blinked listening to An talk about relationships was a funny one, given the context of the relationship An was in.
"Eh, An-san, do they know about your plans with Azusawa-san?"
"Oh, you mean the small blonde one that An loves to hold her hand?"
"Shut the fuck up, Haruka."
Haruka laughs, Saki follows suit soon after. The atmosphere was a relaxing one Airi wanted to get 4 of them without Haruka to discuss about whether Haruka would enjoy this break and plan out future plans for themselves. But with the appearance of the girl herself, topic naturally shifted away from Haruka and with information from Hinomori-san, Saki wasn't sure if she wanted to know what happened.
But Haruka looked a lot better, at least better than the time Haruka picked her up when Saki died. Her eyes were brighter and her steps were lighter, as if something heavy was taken of her shoulders, or as if someone is with her, pushing her along.
"Anyway, Saki-chan, you know why you're here right."
"Yeah..."
"Ara, take care of Shii-chan for me okay, I'll miss her so much."
"I will, Hinomori-san."
"If you need any help you can look for either me or An, Tenma-san."
"Mhm, thank you Kiritani-san. I have a feeling I'll be needing both of your help."
The girls nod in union. Airi and Shizuku was going to be off service for the next couple of days or maybe even up to a week, so for Shibuya district C7 had only Saki, An and Haruka to take care of things, which in hindsight might be more than enough.
"Don't worry Saki. One day I'll get Haruka to teach you how to control magic better."
"I'm free on Tuesday next week if that's ok."
"Ah, that would be great, Shiraishi-san, Kiritani-san."
"Ah ha! Don't mention it, it's what a good senpai is supposed to do no."
Haruka seemed to had something on her mind, Saki didn't want to prod but An beat her to it anyway.
"What's up Haru-chan, something on your mind."
A pause from Haruka. Saki scoffs, she has a bad feeling about this. Haruka digs around her pocket for her wallet, retrieving a piece of cardboard. Flipping it around, double checking the information.
"Tenma-san, I have something for you, it would be great if you can help me investigate this."
Saki accepted the card from Haruka, the pink border shone in under the white sky and it read:
