Chapter Text
“That was so cringe,” Sasha said flicking some of her short hair off of her face and slamming the yearbook shut. “No, I thought it was cute.” Marcy laughed. They were sitting in the Thai Go. No customers were there at the moment, so they had the place to themselves.
“That’s because your Marcy and of course you’d think that’s cute.” Sasha replied. “Oh come on Sash, I can see you blushing.” Anne teased. “I am not!” Sasha argued back. Marcy laughed. “I missed you guys” She said happily.
“We missed you to Marbles.” Anne replied, tightly squeezing if her. “So that was high school for both of you?” Marcy asked. “Pretty much. There was some other stuff that went on, but I tried to keep it as positive as possible.” Sasha replied. “I wish I was there.” Marcy muttered.
“Hey, you’re here now. That’s all I want.” Anne replied. Marcy smiled. “As far as I’m concerned this is the third best birthday ever, just because you’re here.” She added. “I’m sorry, third best?” Sasha asked, with a sarcastic frustration in her voice. “Yeah. Third best.” Anne repeated with a laugh.
“Then what’s the first and second best?” Sasha questioned, the same tone in her voice.
Marcy laughed at it. “First best being the day I was actually born.” Anne began. “Makes sense.” Marcy replied. “Thanks, stole that from Sprig. I asked him about why his 11th birthday, which I spent with him, wasn’t number one, since he said it was third, and he told me the first was the actual day he was born.” Anne explained.
“Ok, ok. Then what was the second best?” Sasha inquired. “My thirteenth birthday.” Anne answered without hesitation. “But, that was the birthday that…” Sasha began but was interrupted. “We got sent to Amphibia, yeah.” Anne finished. “How come that one’s your second favorite?” Marcy asked.
“Because we went to Amphibia. That birthday brought me to the Plantars. I don’t care if it was our unhealthy friendship that made it happen. It was worth it.” Anne explained. Both Marcy and Sasha found themselves smiling at that.
There was a short silence between the three. Marcy tapped Sasha on the shoulder. She mouthed a few sentences silently. Sasha looked at her smiling for a moment before responding. She mouthed back a response, then Marcy nodded.
Anne looked back and fourth between the two of them. “What was that?” She asked curiously. Marcy slid some of her hair behind her ear. “Nothing, We just have something to tell you,” Marcy replied.
“Yeah, you can tell me anything. I’m just glad you’re here.” Anne responded. “You act like I’m just visiting.” Marcy answered, a large smile escaping her face. “What!?” Anne asked, excitement and confusion washing over her. “I’m kinda in LA permanently now.” Marcy exclaimed loudly.
“Ah!” Anne screamed in excitement jumping up from her seat. Sasha laughed. “She’s moving in with me until she finds a place.” Sasha explained. Marcy jumped up and wrapped her arms around Anne. Anne tightly hugged back. “I missed you so much!” Anne exclaimed loudly.
“Everything ok in here?” Mrs. Boonchuy said, entering from the kitchen, followed by Mr. Boonchuy.
“Yup, everything’s fine.” Anne replied, still hugging Marcy from behind. “Anne’s just a little over excited about some news Marcy has.” Sasha explained. “Sasha, how did you react when Marcy told you she was moving back? Heartless as usual?” Anne teased. “First of all I’m not heartless. And I did scream over it for about an hour.” Sasha responded with a laugh.
“Wait, Marcy’s moving back?” Anne’s dad asked. “Yeah…” Marcy began but paused. She turned her head back at Anne, who still had her in a tight embrace. “Anne, you know I love you, but can you please let go of me?” She asked. “Sorry, sorry.” Anne let go of Marcy. “Anyway. I’d still have to travel for work purposes but other than that the goal is to be in LA. There’s more Comic-Con stuff here anyway, so it works out better. Ever since we moved I’ve wanted to come back here, so here I am.” Marcy explained.
“The girls and I are gonna go out and get drinks, but I’ll be home to celebrate my birthday later.” Anne Said, snatching her bag off from her chair. “Ok Anne, we’ll see you then.” Her mom replied. Marcy snatched up her jacket, sliding it on.
As the girls reached the door they were stopped. “Oh, and don’t disappear into a another frog world.” Anne’s dad yelled jokingly. “We won’t!” Anne yelled back.
The warm summer sun beat down on LA. August had brought warm heatwaves throughout the city. Luckily, most buildings had Air Conditioning. The heat wasn’t to awful, especially if you’d been living in LA your entire life. “I oddly missed this unbearable heat,” Marcy laughed. Sasha grabbed Marcy’s jacket by the sleeves, yanking it off. “Better?” She asked. Marcy nodded, turning around, now walking backwards to face Anne and Sasha.
“The Midwest made you soft.” Sasha teased.
“No. Just the hot weather was just in summer and it got really cold in winter and the wether changed like every other day. Like, In may it could be 98 degrees one day and be like 40 the next day. It could be snowing and then a day later be completely melted and thunder storming. It was super tornado prone to…” Marcy continued. Anne couldn’t help but smile at that. It was just like old times.
“Woah! Marcy look out!” She yelled grabbing for Marcys arm. Marcy slipped backward, but somehow managed to grab Annes arm. Anne pulled her back up to her feet. “Maybe lets not walk backwards.” Anne laughed. “Yeah, that’s a good idea.” Marcy replied, slipping back in between Anne and Sasha. Sasha rested her arm on Marcys shoulder.
“Anne, I can’t get over how your parents restaurant looks the exact same! How does it look the same?!” Marcy questioned. Anne laughed. “Not much has changed since you left Marce.” Sasha responded with a slight chuckle. “We have,” She mumbled back in response. It was to quiet for Sasha and Anne to hear.
They soon reached Sasha’s car. “I call Shotgun!” Anne yelled as they approached it. “What?! No fair.” Marcy responded, back to her normal energetic self. “Sorry Mars, just the rules. Besides, you sat there earlier.” Sasha replied, tossing Marcy’s jacket into the backseat of her Convertible.
Sasha climbed into the drivers seat, as Anne ran around to the passengers side. Marcy took a seat in the back. Nothing felt like it really mattered right now. It was the three of them. Friends. Forever. Together.
