Chapter Text
"Ranboo." Tommy replied, intensely staring at him. Out of nervousness, Ranboo let out an awkward chuckle, avoiding Tommy's gaze. "What..what are you doing here?" He cursed at himself for stumbling over his words.
"What am I doing here? I think it's pretty obvious why I'm here, Ranboo." The seriousness in the blond's tone sent a shiver down his spine. "No? What are you talking about?" He answered uneasily, fully aware of the fact that he wasn't being very convincing right now.
"You told me I didn't love you, after we had a wonderful date together." Tommy urged on.
Ranboo only let out a shaky sigh. "You didn't forget." He mumbled in shock.
"Why would I forget that?" Tommy asked, the confusion evident in his voice. The silence that followed was overwhelming. While Tommy was expectantly waiting for an answer, there were thousands of alarm bells going off in Ranboo's head. To put it simple, he was panicking.
How do you tell your best friend that he had been under the influence of a love potion and thought he was in love with him? A horrible thought snuck itself into his mind: Has the potion even worn off yet?
Out of panic, Ranboo frantically reached for the door handle. "I'm sorry, forget what I said. I have to go now its really important, thanks for coming over though, see you later." He stuttered out quickly.
Unfortunately, Tommy reacted faster than him. Before he even had the chance to close the door, Tommy put his foot between the gap of his door, and reached out to hold the door open. "Please don't ignore this, Ranboo. I've been trying to talk to you for 2 days now." Tommy begged.
"Running away from this won't solve anything. Please, let me in so we can talk this out. I promise no matter what happens we'll still be friends in my eyes."
Ranboo blinked, letting the words sink in. There was still a cloud of dread looming over his head, fearing what could happen if he let Tommy in. But, he was sick of worrying over this. It was messing with his head and he'd rather face Tommy now than suffer several more days with the fear of what could happen. He's done being a coward and running away from his problems.
Ranboo nodded, wordlessly opening the door a little wider. When Tommy was inside he gently closed the door and turned towards Tommy's direction.
"So, what made you think that after everything that happened, I didn't love you?" Tommy asked, being straightforward with it.
Ranboo panicked once again, his gaze wandering around his room. How was he even supposed to start explaining this?
"Ranboo." He was snapped out of his thoughts as he felt a hand on his shoulder. "Look at me, please." The soft voice continued. Ranboo finally let his eyes wander to Tommy's gaze. He felt his face heat up at the soft look Tommy was giving him, and did everything in his power to block out any crush related thoughts.
"Be honest, and tell me everything in detail. I promised you we will still be friends, no matter what happens, and you out of all people should know that I keep my promises." Tommy mumbled softly. The soft smile that he recieved from the blond comforted him, so much so that he finally got the courage to talk.
"So, 2 days ago I got a call from Tubbo. He said you two found a random potion and you decided to drink it to see what would happen."
Ranboo saw Tommy's face contort into one of confusion. Despite growing nervous again he forced himself to continue. "Turns out it was a love potion. I don't know how and why, but instead of falling in love with the first person that you've seen, which would have been Tubbo, you fell in love with me instead." Ranboo paused, waiting for some kind of reaction. When there was none, he continued. "You got extremely clingy and didn't want to leave my side. So, I took you home with me because we couldn't think of anything else. You're constant affection was messing with my head and um.." He trailed off. As if sensing his hesitance, Tommy gave him a reassuring pat on the shoulder, and a small nod.
"I decided to act as if we were dating because.. I couldn't take all the pining anymore. The truth is, I've been in love with you for 2 years now and when you started being really affectionate, I don't know.. I guess I lost control, I couldn't resist anymore. What should have been acting turned into genuine affection. I completely forgot about the potion." When he finished, Ranboo squeezed his eyes shut. He fidgeted with his hands, feeling the courage that had suddenly overtook him leave in an instant. Just what had he been thinking? This was a terrible idea.
Could he play it off as a joke somehow and never talk about it again?
The longer the silence stretched on, the more nervous he got.
When he heard a laugh, Ranboo glanced at Tommy in shock. What was so funny about this? Was that his way of rejecting him?
As if sensing his shock, Tommy rushed to explain himself. "I'm sorry, so sorry that I'm laughing but-" He chuckled again. "I just think the excuse that Tubbo used is really stupid."
"Excuse? What do you mean?" Ranboo asked in confusion.
Tommy took a deep breath after calming down. "I think its time you find out what really happened."
......
"I'm telling you Tubs, this could work!" Tommy exclaimed.
Tubbo let out a groan of annoyance. "Do you really think you have to go this far, just to confess to Ranboo?"
"We both know I won't do it on my own. That courage potion would really help me out." Tommy pointed at the book they had found, where a full instruction on how to brew it was written down.
Tommy gave Tubbo a pleading look, brainstorming for reasons to convince him. "Aren't you sick of my pining? If I confess he would at least know that I love him. It would be out and no secret anymore."
"True, I wouldn't have to deal with your whining anymore." Tubbo grinned in amusement, watching Tommy yell out an angry "hey!" with a pout on his face.
"But, we both suck at making potions. You know what happened last time; I don't feel like trying it again." Tubbo added.
Tommy grimaced, shaking his head to get rid of those memories. Determination flamed in his eyes. He was not going to give up anytime soon. "Nothing is going to stop me from doing this. It is by far the best solution I've found for this and we both know I'm going to do it anyway."
Tommy cheered internally as he saw Tubbo's eyes fill with uncertainty. He was finally convincing him.
"I'd rather do it with you, since out of us two you're better with potions, but if you're not going to help I'll do it myself."
Then he turned around, getting ready to gather the ingredients for the potion. "Just pray that I won't accidentally posion myself or something."
The annoyed groan from behind signaled that he had won. Tubbo walked up next to him, helping him gather everything they needed. "Fine you jerk."
Tommy gave him a sly grin to which Tubbo rolled his eyes. "I hate you."
"I know Tubs, I know." Tommy replied.
"If something bad happens you better not blame me." Tubbo mumbled.
"Don't worry, if something does happen you can pin the entire blame on me." Tommy answered.
....
"So, turns out Tubbo was right. Something did happen." Tommy explained.
"I don't know what exactly happened, we probably used the wrong ingredients or made a mistake, but as you can tell it turned out to be a completely different potion. At that point we both didn't know that though, so I drank it."
Ranboo stared at him in disbelief, trying to process all of this new information. His mind was pure chaos right now, a mix of squealing, yelling and more uncoherent stuff.
"So, you do love me? Like, really?"
Tommy chuckled, reaching out to take his hand. "Of course I do."
"Promise me that you aren't under the influence of the potion." Ranboo begged.
The blind flashed him a soft smile.
"I love you, I always have. It wasn't the potion that made me love you. It's you, your personality and looks, everything about you."
Ranboo snickered as he saw an embarrassed blush form on the blond's cheeks. "That was so cheesy." Tommy mumbled.
"It was. Lucky for you, I'm a hopeless romantic."
In response, Tommy's smile widened. He raised his free hand to gently place it on Ranboo's cheek and then slowly leaned forward. "Yeah?"
Ranboo risked a glance down at the blond's lips, feeling his heart beat increase rapidly. "Yeah."
"How cliche would it be for us to kiss right now?" Tommy mumbled, as if it was only for him to hear. He kept on moving closer which made it hard for Ranboo to focus.
"Very cliche." He answered.
Tommy's smiled. "Good."
They're lips met. Considering the fact that they both had little experience, it felt perfect for them. Everything was perfect.
Ranboo glanced at his eyes, finding no heart-shaped pupils in them.
Finally, after all those years of pining they confessed. And it was all real, everything they felt for each other was real.
It wasn't fake at all. It never had been.
Agh, curse that stupid insecure mind of his.
