With a stack of files and papers in her hand again, she quickened her pace to meet those of Mrs.Johnsons'. It was the day of the business deal. The day which decided the final fate of the almost sunken company.
Ever since that night of the party, her life returned back to normal,as it should. But there was an addition of something else. Something that always bugged her mind and tugged at her heartstrings as if it were a guitar, crooning out the melodious but tragic tunes of buried romantic feelings. The player being none other than the Platinum blonde haired aristocrat named Draco Malfoy.
Unfortunately, he was just a memory to her now. No matter how much she yearned for them to meet again, she had to move on with her life. She has her family to take care of and he has his own work and his own life. She will have to keep on looking after her brother until he gets a job and he will inherit the company and be married to someone who is his equivalent in terms of looks and most importantly, inheritances.
She pushed down her thoughts and buried it back to the deepest corners of her mind so that she can pay attention to the meeting. But,she knew well that thoughts of him would resurface again,no matter how much she tried to avoid them.
Pushing open the door just like how she pushed down her feelings, a group of elite businessmen and women sitting around a long table, clad in the most expensive suits and formals , came into her view. Not paying much attention to the members present, she sat down next to Mrs. Johnson. She was busy checking the files for any sort of mistakes in her arrangement that she might have made. Heaving a sigh of relief at the discovery of none, she finally looked up towards the members,only to find those very familiar icy blue eyes looking at her in a mesmerized manner. The same platinum blonde hair and aristocratic features and the same expensive cologne again got her distracted. Draco Malfoy was sitting exactly opposite to her, grinning like a teenager who just saw their crush, with a merry glint in his eyes.
Her heart fluttered up in excitement again as she sent him a small but noticeable smile but quickly withdrew so that no one could notice. Her efforts to stay professional throughout the entire meeting almost ended up in a failure as they both stole glances at each other and sent small smiles.
Two hours. Two hours flew by ,filled with yawns and eye rubs. All she wanted by then was the end of the meeting. The graphs and presentations were tangential to her brain and the constant negotiations and bargaining were pushing her to take a nap right then and there
"With this,we'd like to conclude our meeting. We, the members of Malfoy Inc. are elated to invest in this company. Thank you to one and all present here." Malfoy Sr.'s monotone voice drawled in her ears, making her alert again. She had no clue on what just happened. Throughout the entire meeting, she had been too busy blindly taking down notes which might be important. Taking deep yawns and sending flirty smiles to Draco, somehow kept her away from completely dozing off.
The Heads of the companies got up from their chairs and ended the meeting with professional handshakes and smiles. Draco rushed to reach out to the girl sitting opposite to him and whispered "Wait for me" to her.
In no way was she going to deny his request. As everyone left, Y/n stood back at the entrance to wait for him. Within a few minutes, the young blonde man joined her with a huge grin which seemed to get plastered on his face every time he looked at her.
"Hi!"
"Hi! So…?"
"So what?"
"Any thoughts on this entire thing? I have none, I barely heard anything."
"Yeah,I took notice of that, your yawns weren't as subtle as you may think."
"Wait, I wasn't loud right?"
"No,you weren't, but I sat across from you. So, I obviously got to see those pretty yawns."
A laugh erupted from the both of them. The laughter of the other person, sounding so euphonious to both of them.
"That's one way to phrase someone's yawns. Pretty!"
"Well, at least I'll get to see you everyday from tomorrow!"
"How?"
"Oh,obviously you didn't hear that part! I am taking up an executive position here."
"Wait, what?" She exclaimed with surprise written all over her face.
Draco was speechless, he didn't know how to react to that reaction of hers. He had no idea what to say. She obviously wasn't asking him to repeat himself again. She heard it loud and clear.
"So you're going to be my Boss?"
"Sort of. Look, do you not like the idea….of me being….?"
"No,No,why would I be? I'm just surprised, I didn't expect that to happen. When your father talked about investment, I thought he meant Capital assets,not labour force."
"He meant both. My Father wants me to keep tabs here, to make sure that our investment is used properly . We can't be saving a ship which is already sinking unless it has some gains for us."
"Well, you're not wrong there."
A silence fell between the two. A comfortable one again, but silence nevertheless.
"So, are you going to head home now?"
"Yeah, but I need to first hand over these notes and files to Mrs. Johnson and maybe then I will."
"Would you like me to drop you home?"
"Wouldn't that be a bother to you?"
"Oh no! Absolutely no! I would love to give a lovely lady a free ride. It would be an honour to me, rather."
"Are you flirting with me?"
"Maybe I am. What's wrong with that?"
As soon as that sentence left his lips,she felt her legs turn into jelly, that weird feeling in her stomach returned, her heart was banging against her ribcage as if it would burst out through her chest and blood rushed to her face.
"I should really go and submit these."
"Yeah sure, I'll be waiting for you at the parking lot. See you there."
"Okay."
"Okay."
Him leaning on his expensive car, that too in his formals, wasn't helping her situation at all when she came down a few minutes later. She knew that she could easily die because of the sight of the man in front of her, and she wouldn't have any regrets. It was not just a sight for sore eyes, but also to please an empty heart which had been closed off for many years.
"M'lady."Like the gentleman he was raised to be, he opened his door for her and motioned her to make herself comfortable inside.
"Oh what a gentleman!"
All her life, she had only seen luxurious cars, being close to one was a far away dream for her,let alone sitting in one. Coupled with the fact that the man next to her was breathtakingly beautiful, she could feel her nerves about to explode.
The entire way ,they chatted on random topics, but not once did they feel uncomfortable in each other's presence. Draco ,on the other hand, was doing a victory dance inside his head, at being able to successfully flirt a little with the beautiful girl and give her a ride back home. When he said to himself that he was determined to make her, his; he meant every single word.
"Thank you so much for dropping me Malfoy."
"You don't need to thank me for that, M'lady. Call me Draco from now on."
"Alright then, Draco it is. Bye, see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow."
