Chapter Text

Third Person POV

Nate saw the wreckage of the helicopter. Luckily, it was in mostly one piece. But it was dangling off the side of the ship. Nate had to get to Elena and Avery.

It had started raining as Nate jumped down off the balcony and onto the deck below. He got out his shotgun and made it to cover behind a wooden box. He took out the goons.

Nate chased Navarro to another deck, got behind cover, and took out the goons, having to time his shots. Once again, Nate had to chase Navarro.

An explosion happened, and the storage containers toppled over.

Luckily, Nate avoided them, but he ran into more goons. And Navarro shooting at him. This time, once Nate took out the goons, he followed Navarro up the stairs and right by the helicopter. Nate saw Elena and Avery knocked out, hanging off the side of the helicopter.

Just then, Navarro fired a grenade right at Nate’s feet, knocking him back, causing him to lose his gun too. Nate luckily found cover. Nate timed it just right, and was able to close the distance, throwing punches, and disarmed him. But Navarro got Nate back, and reached for his shotgun.

Before Navarro could get a shot off, Nate charged him. He got a few hits in, getting Navarro to the ground.

Nate then ran over to the burning chopper and got Elena and Avery out. Nate was able to stand both of them up as they gained consciousness. After checking they were okay, Elena and Avery yelled for Nate, as Navarro had gotten up. Nate and Avery both saw that the rope loop was at Navarro’s ankle, so they both told Elena to watch out as they pushed the helicopter in the ocean. Nate then held Elena as him and Avery both looked at Navarro.

“Adios, asshole.” Nate gave the one-liner as Avery just smirked, groaning a tad and holding her chest.

Navarro got whipped to the ground and they moved to the side as Navarro and the statue, sunk to the bottom of the ocean. Then the trio saw a small boat approaching. They saw it was Sully and started waving. They leaned against the railing while Sully drove up. Avery chuckled.

“Well, not my best idea.” She quipped.

“What a day.” Elena quipped.

“Yeah-yeah, save the world, triumph over evil-pretty typical.” Nate looked over at Elena, chuckling.

“Really.” Elena chuckled.

Avery could see it in their eyes, the attraction.

“It’s a shame we’re leaving empty-handed, though.” Nate seemed upset.

“Well, we are alive, so I’ll take that win.” Avery leaned against the railing, facing the ocean.

“Oh, well, you know, I… I did manage to save one small thing.” Elena went up to Nate and handed him his ring necklace.

“Here. I…I thought you might miss this.” Elena put the necklace on Nate.

“Thanks.” Nate thanked her, touched by the gesture.

“Yeah.” Elena had her hands on Nate’s chest.

They went to lean in for a kiss, with Avery smirking as she watched them.

“You two got a funny idea of romantic.” Sully interrupted, stopping them.

“Sully! Wow. You-you look like hell.” Nate looked at Sully.

“Just a tad.” Avery teased.

“You should see the other guy.” Sully had his cigar in his mouth and had the shotgun over him shoulder as he teased them.

The girls laughed.

“Got us a boat.” Sully told the trio.

“Uh, we already have a boat.” Elena pointed out.

“Yeah. Big boat.” Nate teased.

“Really big boat.” Avery added.

Sully laughed, and walked up to a tarp covering pallets.

“I like this one better.” Sully tore off the tarp, revealing boxes of treasure.

The girls gasped as Nate chuckled.

“Sully, you beautiful sonofabitch!” Nate was amazed.

“Borrowed it off a couple of pirates who were too dead to care.” Sully told them.

Nate and Avery laughed.

“I mean, that one is looking better. Just saying.” Avery chuckled again.

They made it down and started heading back to the docks. At least this time, they weren’t leaving empty handed. This would pay off a nice chunk of Sully’s debts, plus a down payment on some gear, maybe even a car, Avery thought.

As Sully was driving the boat, Nate leaned against the back railing. Elena joined him as Avery just watched.

“Sorry you didn’t get your story.” Nate apologized to Elena.

“Ah, it’s all right. There’ll be other stories. You still owe me one.” Elena nudged Nate.

Avery couldn’t help but smile at them. She liked seeing Nate happy. And Elena was a good friend. Nate put his arm around Elena.

“I’m good for it.” Nate told her.

Avery looked at her locket again, thinking of the man she loved. He would’ve loved this whole thing. Maybe they could’ve used the treasure to buy a house. But she will always hold onto hope she’d see him again.
