Chapter Text
False looked delirious. There. That’s it. That is all that is happening.
Well, no, not really.
False had just finished her first lesson, Maths, after being shown the way by Gem. False was good at Maths, clearly exceeding the teacher’s expectations despite it being her first day. Again, she was sat with Gem as her partner had, obviously, moved. However, at the last second as the pair were heading out of the door, Gem was pulled away by a group of giggling girls, all dressed in the same bright clothing and jewellery as Gem. She had protested, before being let go and something was whispered in her ear. Clearly, this changed the girl’s mood as she called over to False.
“I gotta do something really quick, I hope you don’t mind, just head outside to the court! It’s around the back of the building, I’ll meet you there!”
False had, of course, been confused but nodded and started to weave around the babbling students through the hallways. This was when she began to look a little weird. She had a friend! Already, within the first lesson of the first day and someone was already her friend! False couldn’t help the corners of her mouth tugging upwards as she hummed and did a small skip through the hallway, earning some questioning glances from other people.
This drunken mood continued as she made her way outside the building and into the concrete court at the back, fences keeping the children inside. Looking around, False swiftly went and sat on an unoccupied bench as she swung her legs and kicked at the ground. Shaking her head, False sighed and calmed down, slumping against the metal fence as the rectangular patterns left a mark on her back.
“False!” A familiar voice rang out, and False perked up as she looked for her friend. Unfortunately, Gem was dragging someone else behind her, someone who was protesting but giggling at the same time.
“Hiya Gem, um, who’s this person that you’ve brought kicking and screaming?” False chuckled as Gem slouched down onto the bench, pulling the other girl down next to False.
“False, I am determined to have you meet all of my friends! Even the… unusual ones… Anyways, this is Katherine!” Gem was certainly enthusiastic as she nudged the new acquaintance towards False, making her giggle nervously.
“H-Hi False! I’m very happy to meet you, Gem hasn’t stop barking about you, which is rather strange for her.” Katherine smiled warmly, something so sweet that False couldn’t help but smile in return.
“Nice to meet you too, may I ask more about you?” False spoke politely, feeling as if it were necessary to such a well mannered girl.
“I can handle this, thank you Katherine, but you’re too humble. So, False.” Gem laughed as Katherine looked at her with disapproval, crossing her arms and pouting, but with no real annoyance behind it.
“Katherine is the absolute best person for bullies! No joke, she has taken down about twenty bullies, and she won’t even admit it.” Gem’s manner of speaking was lousy compared to the usual, but False waved this away as she listened curiously.
“Oh, really? You must be rather brave then!” False looked over at Katherine, who hid herself behind her hair as she flushed red in embarrassment.
“I-I suppose so b-but I really wouldn’t call myself all that fearsome.” The girl stuttered, her face having turned a bright pink behind her black hair.
This continued for a few moments, Gem happily nudging and chatting about Katherine as False nodded and asked questions. Surprisingly, it had only been about five minutes before Gem quietened down.
“Gem? You alright there?” False leaned forwards to look around Katherine at Gem, who was watching something on the other side of the playground.
“Yeah, I’m fine, just looking at him.” Gem nodded her head, making False and Katherine look over to see a tall boy surrounded by girls giggling and tugging at his shirt.
“I- Who is he? Seems like a bit of a chad, what with all of them girls hanging around him.” False tilted her head a little to the side, looking at the boy as he chuckled at the girls around him.
“That’s Joel.” Katherine scowled as she looked at the tall boy in disgust.
“Oh, why are there so many girls? He must be pretty nice.”
“Yeah, you think that until you realise what a façade he’s putting up. Says he’s there for you, then treats you like dirt.” Gem and Katherine both turned their heads away, looking at False as she continued to observe Joel.
“Really? Oh, he must be the first nasty person I’ve seen then.”
Katherine’s eyes suddenly lit up.
“Wait, nobody has said anything bad to you yet? That’s so lucky! I try to stop that sorta thing, really quite difficult though. Brightens up my day to know that nobody has been an idiot yet!” Katherine giggled and grinned brightly at False, incredibly pleased.
“Yeah, I s’pose, but can you tell me anyone I should avoid?” False had been meaning to ask this question for a while, but had forgotten due to the fact that she had been meeting Katherine.
The two other girls glanced at each other, before Gem began to speak.
“There are a couple, definitely Joel… maybe… well, to be honest, there really aren’t that many bad people anymore. Other than that ‘squad’ of boys who think they own the school.” Gem rolled her eyes, waiting for False to ask more.
“Who? Who?” False looked eagerly at Gem, making Katherine giggle before adding
“You sound like an owl False, calm down!”
Gem sighed as she began to describe the boys.
“Well, there is this guy, really big, and an even bigger idiot. Always got this hoodie covering his eyes, and three minions constantly hovering around him. They are all triplets, actually, and look the exact same. Usually blue clothes, dark skin, and white dreadlocks that hang over their eyes. Will bully you, will embarrass you, will get karma.” Gem sighed, dragging a hand down her face as Katherine bit her lip.
False’s eyes were wide, taking in this information and making sure to remember it.
“O-Oh… W-Well thanks for the info, I’ll make sure to watch out for them…”
The trio were silent, the last few moments of break dripping away before the bell rang out in a shrill shriek and they all moved in unison. False went with Gem, beginning to talk about her next lesson again as people streamed into school.
First break was okay.
Then again, in a high school, you never know who’s listening.
A small figure slowly retreated from the shadowed area behind a wall near the girls’ bench.
Oh, this would be useful information...
