Chapter Text
Amity rose from her sleep. They had been in the human realm for weeks now, and she had nearly adjusted to the human schedule. She’d wake up at 8am exactly, and waited for the others to wake up. (except Hunter, he always felt the need to get up at 6am for some reason). She carefully removed herself from the lower bunk on the bunk bed she shared with Luz, and walked as quietly as she could out of the room, closing the door behind her. She went down to the kitchen, where Hunter stood with a cup of brown liquid Amity assumed to be coffee. He was staring out the window, evidently deep in thought. Not wanting to disturb him, Amity took some bread and made a quick PB&J. She took her sandwich to the living room and sat down on the couch. She took out her phone, Luz had gifted it to her not long ago. She opened Instagram, the human equivalent to Penstagram, and started scrolling through cat pictures until Gus and Willow finally came downstairs, occasionally saving a few pictures to share with Luz later. Willow came to sit in the living room with Amity, while Gus went back into the kitchen. “Good morning.” Willow spoke, her voice still drowsy. “Hey Willow! how’d you sleep?” Amity responded. “Horribly. I couldn’t stop waking up in the middle of the night from these random noises.” Willow yawned. Amity silently prayed that she hadn’t been one of the “random noises” Willow had woken up to. “You probably have a few more hours to sleep before Luz and Camila wake up if you want.” Willow took a second to think, but quickly dismissed the idea. “I’m fine, It’ll just be even easier to sleep tonight if I stay up anyway.” Amity nodded in understanding. She wasn’t sure where to take the conversation next, but Gus and Hunter emerged from the kitchen to save her from trying to figure it out. “So.. Is Luz still asleep then?” Amity asked, noticing her girlfriend was nowhere to be seen. Hunter shrugged. “I thought she was already awake?” Gus said. “Well, she isn’t down here. Hunter and I would have seen her.” Amity said, trying to keep her fear down. “She wasn’t in her bed when me and Gus woke up…” Willow mentioned. Amity was starting to get worried now. “I’ll go look upstairs a bit, you guys can stay here.” Amity ascended the staircase upstairs and entered the bedroom they all shared. “Luz?” Amity climbed the ladder to Luz’s bunk. It was empty. “Luz?!” Amity said, louder and with more concern than the last time. Amity jumped off the ladder, skillfully landing on the floor. She checked every nook and cranny in the room. Luz was nowhere to be seen. She checked Vee’s bedroom, but still Luz was nowhere. Finally, she ran out of Vee’s room and went to look in the upper bathroom. She lost her footing on the way, and face planted on the cold, hardwood floor. From the floor, she saw Luz’s yellow tamagotchi. She picked it up. The screen was scratched, and it refused to turn on. She placed the tamagotchi in her pocket and opened the door to the bathroom. Nothing. That was, until she saw the open window towards the top of the wall. Usually, it was blocked off. But this time, it was not only unblocked, but open. Amity stood on the toilet seat in order to reach the window, and looked out of it. There was no sign of Luz. Amity rushed out of the bathroom, walking at a slightly faster pace than normal. By now, Willow, Gus, And Hunter had gathered on the stairs waiting for Amity. "Is she up there?" Willow asked. Amity shook her head. "No, but I found this." She descended the staircase to meet the rest of the group and handed over Luz's broken tomodachi. Willow took the tomodachi. "The window in the bathroom was also wide open." Amity reported. "Could she have been kidnapped?" Gus spoke. The room drew quiet as everyone stopped to think. "Well.. Let's not jump to conclusions." Willow noted. "She might have just gone on her own adventures again and forgot to tell us." Hunter nodded. "Yeah… probably.. " She responded. But Amity knew it wasn’t true. Luz had always, without fail, left a note or told someone whenever she had gone anywhere on her own. Amity didn’t want to admit it, but she knew Luz wasn’t just on any old trip.
