Chapter Text
It had been years since the former members of class 1-A had graduated and moved on to the bright future they all were destined for. Some students remained in contact with each other while others drifted apart. Unfortunately, the pair of Shoto Todoroki and Izuku Midoriya had disbanded and lost their prior connection. Though, that was about to change with a singular phone call.
Todoroki was currently working for the hero agency led by the #2 hero, Hawks. Hawks was eager to take Todoroki in as soon as he graduated because of his close relationship with his father, Endeavor. While on the other hand, Todoroki was happy about joining forces with Hawks simply because he just wasn’t Endeavor. The pair of heroes started patrolling for the day, no different than any other day, when Todoroki had received an unexpected phone call. The name appearing on his phone was no other than Izuku Midoriya, one of his closest friends from UA.
“Uhm… h-hello?” Todoroki answered.
“Hey Todoroki! Long time no talk! I hope that you’ve been holding up alright after all this time. I know it’s been a while since we talked but I had an idea that I wanted to run by you if that was okay.”
“Sure? What’s up Midoriya?” He responded.
“Well… I was actually going to ask if you wanted to team up for a mission? I was gonna reach out to you one way or another and figured this would be a convenient way for us to finally see each other again!” Midoriya stated with a bright tone.
“Oh- I mean…give me one minute.” Todoroki responded. “I’ll discuss the idea with Hawks to get another opinion on the matter.”
“Okay! Yeah, no pressure. Take your time to decide on the best course of action.” Midoriya reassured him.
“Okay, one moment please.” He muted the call and turned to Hawks, who was eagerly eavesdropping on the conversation.
“Ooooh, an unexpected turn of events for the day.” Hawks said with intrigue. “What do you plan on doing then?”
“Well…” Todoroki started. “I wanted to know what you think I should do. I would love to reconnect with Midoriya but we ended things off on an…awkward foot and I’m worried about not being able to fix things with him.”
Hawks bursted into laughter. “After all this time, you’re still focusing on the past this much? You haven’t changed one bit Todoroki. You of course have to take the offer! You might not get another chance to talk things out with him. You never know when it’ll be too late.”
“You’re probably right… I’m just worried Hawks. I don’t want to mess things up again like I did in the past.”
“Well don’t worry. It’s that simple!” Hawks continued. “Just go with the flow and things will turn out alright. Trust me, I’m amazing at giving advice!”
Todoroki sighed. “Okay… I’ll tell him I’ll do it. Are you happy now?”
“Absolutely. I promise this is gonna be amazing!” Hawks said with excitement.
Todoroki then unmuted the phone call with Midoriya to let him know about their decision. “Okay Midoriya, I’ll do it. I think it would be beneficial for the both of us to team up.”
“Really?!” Midoriya blurted out. “I mean… yes, I agree! I’m glad you feel the same way. Let’s plan it for this day next week if that works for you?” He asked.
“That sounds good to me.” Todoroki responded. “I’ll come over to your agency and we can plan the rest as we go.”
“Sounds good to me! I’ll see you next week then. Talk to you later!” Midoriya exclaimed.
“Yup, same to you. See you then, Midoriya.” He then hung up the call and put his phone back into his pocket while letting out a sigh. “Well…there’s no going back now I guess. If this goes wrong then I’ll be blaming you, Hawks.”
“Hey, I didn’t do anything!” The winged hero yelled. “It’ll be alright, I’ll be rooting for ya the whole time!” Todoroki looked down while his thoughts raced about the possibilities of what was to come. A slight smile appeared on his face.
Meanwhile, on the other end of the phone call.
“WHAT? I can’t believe I actually did that! And he agreed!” Midoriya screamed out as he was attempting to catch his breath. Next to him stood his long time mentor, All Might. Who also was the culprit for coming up with the whole idea.
“Midoriya, it’s fine! Everything worked out and now you have the ability to really make amends and tie up any loose ends you have with him from the past. This is a good thing.” All Might stated.
“I know, you’re right. I’m just worried about things ending how they did back then.” Midoriya responded as his thoughts raced. “Though, we’re older and have been through so much on our own. Maybe that’s all that we needed, time. Time to figure ourselves out. Time to go our separate ways. Time to mature and reconvene when we were ready. And now is that time.”
“I’m glad you think that way, Midoriya. And I’ll be here through it all if you need any advice or help with a situation. Even if it’s not hero work, I’d be happy to be your mentor.”
Midoriya smiled and thanked his long-time mentor, and friend. His mind was clouded with thoughts about what was to come in the next week. Though, underneath all of the stress and panic, was a sense of excitement about the possibility of changing the past, and finally being able to be honest with Todoroki. No more hesitations. No more second thoughts. And no more holding back.
