Chapter Text

As was his habit, Ennoshita made sure the quran shelves were neatly aligned.

Don't stress.

Ennoshita remembered a time these words would have crushed him. But he and the imam had several conversations like these in the past. Bokuto had given Ennoshita a spiritual book as a gift. Bokuto said it was his favourite thing to read when he was feeling down.

There is something calming when all your thoughts fit into place as you read a book. So, Ennoshita read it to its completion. Then he kept rereading it to his heart's content.

A laugh rumbled inside of Ennoshita. Last week, an old man who had sat next to him waited for the imam to leave before he turned to Ennoshita with real surprise in his eyes, 'May God bless the Imam, he’s always motivated and loud!'

A hand reached for the shelf above and he met eyes with Daichi’s eldest son. The boy looked warily past Ennoshita’s head at Kuroo.

Ennoshita assessed the situation. Ustadh Kuroo had been calling Tsukishima for extra quran lessons for a few weeks now. His father Daichi felt like Tsukishima needed to improve so that he could become a hafidh at a young age, and Kuroo was perfect for teaching the quran. He had a patient and careful ear with his students. Maybe he wasn't the nicest since he teased mercilessly, but his way of pushing tended to help students.

Tsukishima was interested in learning, and quite fast at it too. But he was much quieter when the other boy was there too. Kuroo was listening to the boy recite right now. His name was Ushijima, and he was the boy who was a new Hafidh.

Tsukishima regarded the younger boy just a little hesitantly as the younger offered him his seat.

Ushijima got a chair for himself to sit down, and Ennoshita felt a smile pull up on his face as he watched this scene unfold. He adored children who were respectful to their elders. He made a short dua for the little boy, a dua so that the Quran remained in the little boy's heart for the rest of his life.

Ennoshita's heart was lighter after making dua for others. What he didn't know was that others were making dua for him, too. And that maybe one day his hardships would be eased.

Notes:

Hinting at a Tsukishima arc where he's going to get competitive about memorising Quran.

I self-inserted into Ennoshita. I have had bad anxiety and the Quran and dua helped. So, looking forward to writing about his character development.

I was hoping to make this chapter focus on Ennoshita and Akaashi but maybe in the future I will write about how maturity like Akaashi’s is helpful. Bokuto is very blunt so hopefully this chapter shows there are no hard feelings between Bokuto and Ennoshita.

But, will Ennoshita’s mental health keep improving? (Hint for future chapters)

Thanks for reading!
