Chapter Text
The noise of the pond and fish moving the water made the soundtrack of that environment, although full and each of the chairs occupied, the eyes followed from one direction to the other in absolute silence, no one did anything, they were however always turning their sharp eyes to the same point of origin, it wasn't as if it could be ignored.
Sayaka was looking at Kirari also waiting for her to take some action, but in front of the clan members the secretary didn't even dare to breathe. Rei on the other hand remained impassive in front of them, it wasn't as if she had served them the rest of her life and was now free to literally stab one of them through the throat through no fault of their own.
She wasn't the only one with murderous thoughts in the environment, some members also had it tingling in their minds, collectively this feeling was transferred from one to the other, eyes strained, glazed over, ears wide open and no sudden movements being made, but that was all a little to that, were on the brink waiting for the chance to change the game.
Except, well except for the only soul present there that wasn't in any of those states, on the contrary it was of an unconditional calm, it was like a snowflake falling on a busy highway, although everything that happened around was enough to scare away what had happened if he dared to function neutral there, the snowflake kept falling in its own time, in its own fluidity, without fear of contact with the ground, light, just light like Kirari's laugh that continues to be heard and yet ignored.
— Hi cousin, it's great to see you better! — Yumi was the one who took the initiative in the face of the uncomfortable silence of the environment, taking a step forward in that direction.
— It's been three days and you haven't let us see — who comments is Erimi with a beak the size of the world, which immediately brings the same repressive looks from the elders.
— We thought Kirari was just deceiving us. — says Ibara, taking the lead.
— Who likes to tell lies is Rin! — Nozomi protests defending her cousin.
The masked figure reacted to that conversation by turning his head like a dog looking towards the girl standing beside him, then turned his eyes to Terano who was still silent just looking at her and checking what he needed for himself. If any of them had any doubts about the veracity of the facts they had no more, there she was, Ririka Momobami awake, standing there looking at each of them behind that smiling mask while the sound of laughter was still heard in the room.
— Why are you laughing? — Rin asks, suddenly getting annoyed with the sound to break that mood.
— It's very funny. — says Kirari merely looking at her relatives pointing.
— What's funny about this situation? – asks Terano, drawing attention to himself.
— You are funny. — he continues with a soft laugh and now turning to his desk and without saying a word if he wants the same nod, understanding.
— Concluding that, as announced, the elections are proceeding as normal, betting is still allowed.— explains Sayaka for the umpteenth time, as it was clear that no one had paid attention to it when he repeated the first five times.
Not when there was something more interesting, but palpable, to pay attention to at the moment, not something, someone, attention was still on the figure standing behind Kirari, quiet and motionless as a mere shadow, some had not yet sunk in, although the subject had to come up, everyone was avoiding him, it was still fresh in his memories of the last clan meeting and from Kirari's words, no one not even Terano would dare defy their leader's orders, so everything that nipped in the buds. tongues and ran wild through heads in trains of thought that needed to be contained until further notice.
— If you need more time, the elections can continue to be postponed — Terano looks at Ririka surprising some for her altruistic layer appearing — We were all worried about you, it was hard times, but your health should be priority at the moment — now continues staring coldly at Kirari as if to give you a message.
At that moment something happens that surprises those present. Kirari look over her shoulder discreetly and directly at her sister, the one who makes a nodding motion just as discreetly, which makes the younger one agree and continue, for some brief minute they were dazzled that the leader of the powerful Momobami clan was just waiting for instructions of her sister, before they laughed at themselves for having interpreted it that way, maybe it softened Kirari's heart.
— Without more time, elections resume immediately. — her announces, now directing his attention to the door, returning to his usual posture.
The eyes then turn to the figure standing behind Kirari who continues in the same position she was in, not showing any kind of reaction to that. At least someone, since Rei was sighing heavily and Sayaka could barely open her eyes as she had her head turned to the other side preventing their eyes from meeting. The Bami look at each other sharing the joint confusion, something really wasn't right there.
Terano was about to say something when the sound of the doors opening roughly interrupts her, there was some discussion going on outside, but it stopped when the causer's firm steps steadied into a steady rhythm.
Rei stood in front of the masquerade, she was not expecting an invitation, she simply entered as she did with the meeting itself, which was never invited, but she promptly felt the need for protection there, facing the others and observing that the masquerade turns to her automatically and the ex-servant had to contain the smile she wanted to expose, being there made her feel more relieved.
The steady steps stop, first the amber eyes meet the bold piercing blues, which she scrutinizes closely with a certain contempt, then they turn to the acrylic, there is indeed a small run, and Rei needs to be discreetly pulled by Sayaka away out of the way to avoid the collision.
The silence that ensues is deafening, only the sound of shoes stomping on the ground sounds uncomfortable, for some it was not necessary to understand the moment, it was obvious and therefore it should be respected. As if the tectonic plates were colliding and the tide had receded far enough, the tsunami was the promise of a flood, as predicted would have drowned, total loss.
When approaching, Mary feels her chest beating erratically, as if she was trying to establish a rhythm that she couldn't, her breathing had hitched in a way that the sighs needed to respect a certain space of time between one breath of air and another so as not to suffocate her inside the her own oxygen, her fingertips were itchy to the point of burning, her throat was already dry to say the least. One more step and the sense of urgency overcame her, running her fingers in the air she noticed the recoil of the body in front of her, but she didn't remove them letting her fingertips touch the solid material as gently as she could, she feared that everything along the way around it went up in smoke, melted right in front of her, how many times had she imagined it happening after a night of nightmares.
Close enough his eyes look into the dark holes, actually looked into the soul and reflected in a mixture of emotions, there was a moment of hesitation, it was so brief that it didn't even seem to exist. Feelings existed, always existed and never went away, she would deny to herself that she would not take care of feeling them, that she had followed resigned with the course that had happened until that moment, she would have ignored them and made herself forget that one day felt so much that she couldn't contain herself, she wouldn't ignore how it filled her, how it terrified her and at the same time calmed you like nothing ever had before.
The palms then firmed on the sides and little by little the macabre object that prevented her from believing in what was happening was removed giving the uncomfortable vision that she had not noticed before, from a sharp look, dull without conviction, the skin was still clear, but that usual it was possible to easily find each vein present in his face, as well as his bones, he was almost or as skeletal, below the eyes dark and swollen edges, the mouth cut and colorless, there was a band over his head protecting her, not before noticed because it was being hidden by the volume of the candid, lifeless and limp hair, yet definitely Mary felt the beats become more tachycardic, her fingers moving so slowly along every feature of her face that it was painful to torture herself so.
Sayaka looked at Rei when she pressed her hand, calling her attention, with her head indicated that one by one the members present left the place in silence, even Kirari was already retreating towards her private room and the servant understanding the message from Sayaka walks side by side with her, leaving the room in absolute silence and closing the door behind her before spying the last moment where the blonde buried her face on Momobami's chest.
— Don't ever let me leave again. —Saotome whispers, sinking her face even further, letting the soft scent of cherry blossom invade her nostrils.
Momobami felt the heat return to her body every time the arms around her body became more possessed, she was surprised, but even though her heart started to change she kept everything else neutral, it took a lot for that, her body didn't she followed the mind's orders and the way she felt the little vibrations coming from inside her was enough to spill all her dignity, her vision had been turning cloudy, white and flickering.
She only noticed what was happening because a drop carrying everything that moment stood for slipped up her chin and the tingle made her realize her face was wet. - Feelings rained through the eyes in pure droplets, there were no lies there, and as difficult as it was to admit that place could serve as an abode and nothing that would happen from now on would need to happen, she wanted to believe that, she wanted to stay in that moment for always, but the reality that awaited her was already different, she regretted that.
The eldest knew that feeling, the butterflies in her belly told her that no matter how pure you were, the world would always be busy trying to eat you away, so in that hug she allowed herself to forget about it, it would be brief, the first waves to come. they hit as she planned, cold, strong and salty, the rocks wouldn't stop more water to reach, a low sob was heard and she didn't stop this time, merged into the hug pulling Mary's body even more against hers, she needed to From the heat, she needed to find a way to breathe, to feel, and she felt it, allowed herself to be there while it was still raining and when it rained it spilled over and she thought she liked that.

Rei continues to tap her fingers anxiously on the table as she continues to look at her watch impatiently. Of all the things that made her nervous, delays were never forgiven no matter what the excuse.
— Would you like some tea? —Sayaka asks, also present in the living room, sitting on the sofa and having tea.
— No, thank you. — answers the girl ignoring the secretary who raises her eyes in her direction.
Silence returns over both of them. Sayaka attributes this to the fact that they were waiting for the Momobami twins to return from their respective meetings, the two were actually nervous about it, Rei took out her anxiety on the nails she tapped on the table or her feet on the floor, Sayaka chose to make tea to calm down. There was no reason to be so worried, I mean Ririka was with Saotome and Kirari was with Terano, why would they be worried?
— What they could both be talking about — her says, changing the rhythm of the beats.
— Kaicho and Terano? — she asks even though she knows it's not them Rei was talking about.
— Fuku sachõ and Saotome — she corrects, crossing her arms over her chest, staring at some empty spot above Sayaka's head.
— Are you worried that Saotome will do something or…
— If she opens her mouth and says something she shouldn't? – Rei interrupts her now getting to her feet. — That would definitely not be good.
— But what if it is? — the secretary ponders thoughtfully — That is to say, the fuku-sachõ's memory could be recovered, if Kaichō told Saotome — she continues, suddenly feeling hopeful.
— Or make matters worse, we wouldn't know how fuku-sachõ would react to that. — her says, sitting down on the couch opposite the girl and pouring himself tea.
Again silence.
Sayaka wanted to be able to argue against it, but at that point of events, maybe Rei was right, if Saotome said something, everything would be lost, although she wasn't the only one who could end up ruining things, there was still her clan and all the people who witnessed what happened. Any one of them could comment at some point on the matter. Igarashi swallowed hard now with this new fear unlocked, too many people, too many possibilities for everything to go wrong.
— She called a meeting the day before her sister was released from the hospital, the entire complex attended at her orders — Rei rambles on after noticing how worried Sayaka looked — She forbade the incident to be mentioned, guaranteed severe punishments for those who disrespected her order, moreover, the same was said to the members of the Student council — she explains, noticing the surprise in the youngest's eyes.
— You mean… that no one is going to say anything about fuku-sachõ having… — she makes the gesture and Rei agrees.
— She won't say. — guarantees a third voice that comes from the girl who enters the room and is sitting on one of the tables in the place leaving her feet loose in the air swinging from side to side.
— Who's to say she won't yell atFuku sachõ and ruin everything, that's usually what she does! — Sayaka points now crossing her arms and joining Rei to face her.
— You don't know Mary, if you did, you'd know she's not like that. — she shrugs.
— I wouldn't even bother to meet, Saotome is one of the last people I want to contact in this institution. — Sayaka smiles falsely, standing up looking at Rei who looks at her thoughtfully.
— She can figure it out on her own and keep quiet, Saotome is no fool— Rei points out, looking a little more relaxed now.
— Or she doesn't notice anything and spoils Kirari's whole plan, you know... she barely noticed Fuku Sacho's collapse, who guarantees she'll realize that now that she thinks she is...
— Igarashi-san you should mince your words when referring to Mary-san — Yumeko walks over to the girl stopping in front of her — Kirari don't have the right to demand silence from anyone, if Mary notices and wants to comment she will,” she guarantees looking in the back of the secretary's eyes, who was much smaller than the brunette, needing to lift her head to face her.
— If I had been in her shoes this would never have happened, I would have noticed, I would have stopped it. — the secretary's small body seemed taller and stronger as he tensed towards the taller girl.
— This isn't about Kirari. — Jabami smiles in that annoying way.
— Even less about Saotome. — says Sayaka.
— What's not about me? — the three turn to the door that had just been opened by a blonde with red eyes and nose making it clearly visible that she has been crying.
— Mary! — Yumeko runs to meet her trying to hug her — Nothing, we were just talking about betting — she says but the blonde gets rid of her arms, fixing her eyes on the secretary.
— What's not about me? — she asks again demonstrating that she would not leave there without answers.
Sayaka immediately looked towards Batsubami trying to get some kind of help. However, Rei didn't offer much, putting herself in silence, causing the girl to turn her eyes to the blonde who was still waiting for explanations. Igarashi knew that Saotome had no idea what they were talking about earlier otherwise she wouldn't ask, so she ponders, tell or not tell?
Her Kaichō would be annoyed with her if told, meaning it wasn't Sayaka's duty to do that, let alone choose who should know or not about something that could be used against Momobami. These thoughts came and then disappeared as soon as the girl observes how Mary was, she had just come from a date with Ririka, it was visible that she had been crying, that was not the first time, the scene of Saotome discovering the truth on the day of the game between Terano and Kirari was still fresh in his memory.
It was hard for the girl to admit that although she wasn't one of the loud blonde's biggest fans, she managed to put herself in her shoes briefly and understand that Momobami must mean something, have some minimal importance that was to the girl, because of that she kept lying to her and hiding things didn't seem fair, it wasn't enough all the months that they hid her about the albino accident, it wasn't fair to hide things because she suffered, or at least she was a great actress when she looked downcast while walking through the halls of school at that time, and thinking that way, the secretary wouldn't like to be the last to know about things, even more about something she cared about, someone, if that happened to her and Kirari, it was certain that she would like to be warned. Because of that, she made herself sigh and look back into the amber eyes, unable to lie, to be unfair.
— Sit down, there's something you need to know, Saotome. — Sayaka says, waving.
🃁🂮🂲🂣🂻🃅🃖🃌🃟 🃟 🃓 🃍 🃄 🃎 🃑 🃝 🃙 🂫 🃁 🂥 🂢 🃁 🃆 🃅 🃄 🂸 🂵 🂲 🂴 🂵 🂢🃁🂮🂲🂣🂻🃅🃖🃌🃟 🃟 🃓 🃍 🃄 🃎 🃑 🃝 🃙 🂫 🃁 🂥 🂢 🃁 🃆 🃅 🃄 🂸 🂵 🂲 🂴 🂵 🂢
Ririka had eyes fixed on the dark ceiling, daring her own eyes to see beyond that darkness, it had been like this for a few hours, all because she needed this moment of rest, not needing to think about anything, just flow with the tide. Today had been exhausting, not to mention extreme exhaustion, it had drained all the energy out of the girl so that she refused to breathe more than five times in a twenty minute interval to save her breath, her body aches and the feeling of displacement still made her shiver.
Everything was quiet until a light that invades the place comes straight from the hallway behind the mass that was moving to where the girl was, she doesn't say anything as she leaves her slippers on the floor and passes the first part of her body into the bed, her sister follows the entire movement, cringing as the heat and contact makes her move to fit beneath the bed sheets.
— Didn't make it to dinner — mutters the girl, moving around pushing her sister in the process to get the perfect position such as more room on the bed.
— I was resting — she replies, feeling cold hands move over her body.
— Don't you think you've slept too much, four months weren't enough? — murmurs the girl reaching for her fingers and intertwining with hers.
— Looks like… — the girl begins and her voice exceedingly weak and husky — that things have gotten messed up around here — she manages to smile a little, allowing her sister to practically straddle her with her legs then her arms and sink her face into your chest.
— Your sister kept order as long as she could, it was not an easy —justifies the girl quietly.
— I have no doubt about that, you did a good job — he agrees now turning his eyes to the same one that even in the dark knew exactly what his expression was and the silence returns.
The sound of breaths was the only thing in the air, for some time in that silence the sound of them each at their own pace was enough to distract them, after a certain moment they merge into a single sound working in sync, it was automatic none of them controlled when it happened, that's why they weren't noticing it they barely noticed, in fact the rises and falls of the chest were only noticed because Kirari kept putting weight on her sister's stomach which didn't bother her at all.
— You shouldn't have gone back to school so early, you need to rest — suddenly the sister's voice comes to life.
It sounds low at first after that silence they could have both fallen asleep, but judging by the way her sister's breathing kept up with her Ririka's dismisses that.
— The clan wouldn't allow it, besides we have an election going on. — she replied calmly.
— You heard Terano at the moment the election is the least of it, if you need some time…
— Sister. — this time the voice sounds firm — Did you know that time is a relative principle?
— Yes, you've talked about this before. — Kirari sighs, this was so convincing that she herself is surprised.
— Then I don't need to repeat that — she assures, closing her eyes and trying to focus on her sister's face, — just like I don't need to repeat that I don't need a babysitter — she grumbles and this time her sister pokes her in the stomach causing her to spasm.
— Rei is very dedicated, and will be at your disposal for whatever you need — guarantees.
— And why not…
— It would be weird if Sayaka were in your place — her replies, reading his thoughts and anticipating them, his tone dropping as he spoke — and I don't think our cousins or anyone else will approach you while she's around — her assures and this is almost funny. .
— Shall I ask what offered you for such subordination? – her asks, finding the fact curious.
— She is only grateful to you, you don't remember but you were the one who gave her life back, she was reliable the whole time you were hospitalized, anyway I'm keeping an eye on her too — assures her sister seriously.
— I trust your judgment. — she says and that was true, Ririka has always been great at reading people and detecting intentions. Both knew it.
— There's a meeting tomorrow…— Kirari announces, looking uncomfortable. — I can handle it if you let me. — offers, even in the dark Ririka could read her expression.
— You've already taken care of everything anyway. — she sighs getting a nod.
When the silence returns to the room, the new one is squeezing the sister's body hugging it tightly, that would be a reason for mockery if it weren't for a pure gesture that both shared only between them, when they needed to express themselves but there weren't enough words for it, the bodies moved, breaking any resistance or concern to allow themselves, it was not read as weakness, but strength, that meant fortress, walls so high and consolidated that there would never be invasions, it was just theirs, their imposing construction.
Brick by brick being piled up in what protected them from the outside world, no one from the outside was invited, inside there were only the two of them, their space, their privacy a world that no one would ever understand, because it was created by both so that no one else would be they don't understand it. Thorns, traps, gates, reinforced guard, everything to keep it pure, like the feeling of one in relation to the other.
Ririka noticed the silent tears rolling from her eyes, she noticed the ones that were also wetting her pajamas, that was unexpected, her chest accelerated the beat, seeing this kind of thing was not common, but it worked for her to understand that the reason for existing was there, to witness things like that, that didn't please her, because she never wanted anyone to feel bad for her, seeing it happening like that certainly made her swallow hard and feel bad, but it was okay, she pressed her body against her more tightly. force bringing you further inside those walls, no one would reach them, if you allow it, he whispered mentally, I'll be here for you.
My sister, my responsibility.
— I missed you, Kirari. — whispers Kirari to the older one.
— I felt your Ririka. — agrees Ririka sliding her fingers through the platinum strands starting a caress in the youngest.
Which one of us was I?
Ririka closes her eyes and lets her thoughts travel far away to the day she woke up and wishes she could thank her sister again for finally breathing, things changed from that moment on. She knew that this game would not be played alone, it would have consequences and it could end badly, anyway she needed it, until she could breathe on her own.

(Before)
The sound of the pointer working inside the machinery was soft enough not to irritate the sensitive ears of the young woman lying staring at the ceiling. While everyone else seemed irritatingly noisy there was a familiarity to what the surroundings produced of life running rampant. This should be a relief, definitive proof that she was indeed awake and not trapped in some kind of weird dream.
— I'm sorry I can't give you more time to rest, but I need to run some tests to make sure you're okay. — the doctor announces, breaking the silence in the room.
In response he manages to wave his hands, he directs his attention then the girl sitting next to the armchair wearing a mask, asking for his authorization and she waves discreetly for him to proceed.
— Miss Momobami, how are you feeling right now? Can you speak? — he asks, pressing the pen button to start taking notes.
— Yea. — she answers without looking, her voice was very low and potentially husky in a rude way.
— Um right, you can talk — he notes and approaches from the side — do you know where you are? What year are we? – he asks looking at her.
— At a hospital, 2022.
— And do you remember how you got here? – he asks and with that question the air changes, the masked girl gets to her feet.
He shouldn't have asked that question, it's visible how the girl's eyes change, her mouth twists and she finally faces the doctor in front of her.
— No, I don't... — his voice trails off now, looking at his sister standing beside him on the gurney.
— So you don't remember… — the doctor looks at her curiously, now writing down other things on the clipboard — Miss Momobami, what's the last thing you remember? — he asks.
The girl's eyes change again, this time it was pure chaos, there was something there, a mist when they meet her sister's eyes behind that mask, even though there is a spark, they both knew that moment was important, the head the older one works a little slower than she'd like when her lips start to form a smile, a simple smile.
— Our bet — he points to the girl who nods over the doctor's gaze.
— A bet... how long is that bet? — this time he turns to the girl in the mask.
— About four months — her replies.
— So you don't remember anything after that? — insists the doctor.
— I vaguely remember things that I don't know if they are dreams, visions or just distorted memories —her admits and this catches the attention of everyone in the room.
— Can you describe any of them? - question.
— There's a strong light above me, I see shadows like silhouettes three or four of them, they suffocate me and I can't breathe — she narrates, narrowing her eyes as if making an effort to think.
— Okay, we can try that later, to proceed, this girl in question do you know who she is? — he asks, catching the attention of both twins now.
— Obviously, she's my sister — she says nonchalantly.
— As for these others here, who are they? — this time he points to the corner near the door where two figures were standing there just waiting for instructions.
— It's Igarashi-Sayaka and Batsubami-Rei — her says with a weary sigh.
— And you... who are you? — he asks and the exhausted smile that used to take over her fades.
Her eyes turn to her hands and a sudden feeling of bitterness overwhelms her, the world crushes her and it felt wrong, extremely wrong, it was as if the square didn't fit the circle. Her eyes close and she breathes and breathes in again and again looking for some strength to make her think, but that also felt wrong, if she allowed herself to think, it was painful, her head ached.
That's when she felt her fingers being covered by icy fingers, as much as hers, she didn't need to open her eyes to know who she was, her sister approached and squeezed her palm, was encouraging her to face her situation.
Opening her eyes those impossible blues were stuck to hers even through that mask, the connection was so deep that at that moment the whole environment disappeared, there was only one entity there, Ririka felt her own heartbeat, her organs inside her working and her head associating with a fine line of thought, she wasn't asking for empowerment, she already had it.
Sayaka and Rei watched the interaction silently, for each one meant something different.
Rei was seeing a partner and complicity, affection and also care on both sides. They might not be praising or hugging each other like they should after being away from each other for so long. Yet there was this feeling emanating from them, it was surprising coming from the younger Momobami. The ex-servant never thought she would live long enough to discover that that stone woman had a heart, and it beat for two. Kirari never showed affection to anything or anyone, for the first time this happened Rei started to think that she didn't really know even one percent of those two, the enigmatic twins, which made her fascination for both of them only increase, they were like a whole universe to explore, Batsubami was ready for this adventure, she was excited, more than she thought she was.
Sayaka was frozen in her place, there were many times she observed them both talking by looks or mixed signs of a twisting mouth or a smile appearing, the secretary could tell that she already had special training to understand and understand those two. From the beginning even before you even want to imagine that they were both sisters, Igarashi was already watching their interactions even though he felt he shouldn't, as it was something personal, a line she shouldn't cross, understand how or what her precious Kaichõ and Fuku sachõ both talked and understood each other, and what that meant took more time than she admitted to having spent snooping around in matters that weren't hers.
Looking at it that way now, she wasn't even feeling so guilty, if it weren't for that, she wouldn't be understanding what was happening right now. Deep down, he didn't want to understand, he was five seconds away from starting a protest against his conscience, but he held back, he watched Kirari's eyes complete their total metamorphosis and that of her sister, when they turn to her Sayaka felt nauseous, that look meant that she moved a piece and the secretary needed to trust her even over extreme risks, the way she held their gazes conveying the message was a punch to the girl's stomach, for the first time in her life she felt scared, she would always trust the girl Kaichō, would always be on her side, no matter risks, gains or losses, without ever having thought to hesitate, the thought that ran through her mind in fear makes her back away, looking away, it had to be recomposed.
Trust her, just trust her, she knows what she's doing, she always does!
She repeated it in her head in an attempt to make it become an absolute truth in her mind. The silence of the room makes her breathe loud and audible, that's what Sayaka felt all this time, the signs that she tried to ignore and go on with her normal life finally became an event, now in progress only the secretary was left to witness its unfolding and pray that by the end of this tsunami she would be on safe land.
Little by little the mask began to be removed until that face so clean and familiar was fully exposed. The message was clear, both were staring at each other, twin sisters talking without a sound coming out of their mouths, contrary to everything they believed to be a myth, popular belief, those two really could do it.
Ririka felt a current passing through their bodies, they were merging again, that hadn't happened in a while, not that far away yet, it was too natural to be ignored, too strong to try to be pushed away in another direction, at that moment there was a Momobami, then two, the smile reappeared on the eldest's face, Ririka was no longer Ririka.
— My name is Kirari Momobami.
