Chapter Text

Newt doesn’t know how but he ended up at his apartment after stumbling through the city for god knows how long. He let himself in using the spare key under his doormat – probably not the best place to hide a key but so far nobody has ever broken into his apartment so he takes it as a win.

He lied down on his bed hours ago, just staring at the ceiling and trying to escape his thoughts. He’s pretty sure that he broke up with Thomas, or that Thomas broke up with him, either way: it’s over. That was exactly what wasn’t supposed to happen. They were supposed to work it out and find a way to make their relationship work, they weren’t supposed to fight. Did he make a mistake by leaving the house? Maybe they could’ve worked it out if he had stayed. Shit, he really needs to do something against his impulsiveness.

He keeps running in circles, unable to stop himself from thinking the same few things over and over again: Thomas didn’t fight for him, he shouldn’t have left, maybe they weren’t supposed to be together. He feels like he’s trapped in a vicious circle and he wants out.

What is Thomas doing right now? Is he cursing Newt out for leaving or is he regretting how everything went down? Is he wondering if there is any way for them to save this sinking ship or does he think that they weren’t supposed to be?

He hears the front door of his apartment slam against the wall, announcing someone’s present but Newt doesn’t have the strength to get up and check who it might be, besides he’s pretty sure it’s Minho. Who else would barge into his apartment like that? Thomas would probably break in over Newt’s balcony (but Newt doubts that Thomas would come over at all) and an intruder looking for money or who’s there to kill Newt wouldn’t be so loud.

Newt’s assumption proves to be right when Minho storms into his bedroom. “Thank God you’re okay!”

The blond is too exhausted to sit up, so he stays lying in bed, staring at the endless white of his ceiling. “Am I?” he asks emotionless. Minho probably already knows what happened, otherwise he wouldn’t have run in here like that. He feels more than sees Minho lying down next to him on the bed after kicking off his shoes, mirroring Newt, and looking at the ceiling. The Asian takes one of Newt’s hands in his, offering Newt as much support through this simple gesture as possible. Part of him is immensely grateful that Minho is here, supporting him to the best of his abilities, the rest of him wishes to be alone. He must be a terrible sight right now after crying for hours on end and he feels emotionally drained, not capable of having an actual conversation. He feels like he lost Thomas again and this time it’s his fault.

“What are you doing here anyway?” Newt forces himself to say after minutes of silence in which he was hoping that Minho would just leave. But the Asian isn’t like that, he will stay by Newt’s side for days on end, waiting for him to be ready to talk about what’s on his mind and Newt really appreciates that but sometimes Newt just needs to be alone, something Minho doesn’t seem to understand.

“You weren’t answering any of my texts or calls so I went to Vince’s place but you weren’t there,” he explains softly. “Thomas was a mess, he said you left earlier and he doesn’t know where you went. I drove through the city for a while but I couldn’t find you, so I was hoping you’d be here, and well, here you are.”

Newt flinches slightly when Minho mentions Thomas’s condition. It’s his fault. He screwed up again. He hurt the person he cares most about. And he didn’t even realize that he doesn’t have his phone with him, it’s probably still at Vince’s place but he really couldn’t care less, he will simply buy a new one.

“Did he tell you what happened?” Newt’s voice is rough as if he was screaming for hours, and maybe he has, he isn’t sure. The last few hours took forever to go by but at the same time, they went by in a blur.

“He told me his version of the story, I’d like to hear yours whenever you’re ready.”

Newt should’ve seen this coming. Of course, he would have to tell Minho what happened, he should’ve been prepared for retelling everything from the moment he left the house but he was a bit preoccupied with trying not to fall apart right then and there.

“I wanted to work it out and he wasn’t willing to do that, so I left,” he concludes, shocking himself with how true that was. He wanted to fight while Thomas was ripping holes into a sinking ship. “I had no reason to stay if he doesn’t think I’m worth it.”

Minho grips his hand a bit tighter, probably trying to calm Newt down, though the blond doesn’t need to calm down, after realizing that he was the only one fighting for their relationship earlier, he calmed down surprisingly fast, turning into a broken, emotionless wreck.

“What makes you think you’re not worth it?”

“He said so himself,” Newt says. Though Thomas technically didn’t say it like that, insisting to continue his life like he did the last decade and not adjusting in the slightest to reassure Newt was enough to show the blond what he means to Thomas. “And he didn’t even try to stop me from leaving or attempted to go after me. I think that proves how much I mean to him.”

Minho sighs. “Maybe he is trying to give you some space?”

The Brit frowns. Which side is Minho on, Newt’s or Thomas’s? Because right now it feels like he is supporting Thomas more than Newt.

“Or maybe he just realized that it was a huge mistake,” Newt points out.

“Do you think it was a mistake?”

Newt feels like all the thoughts rushing through his head suddenly stopped and were replaced by memories. He remembers what it was like to meet Thomas for the first time in the park and how persistent the brunet was to befriend Newt. He remembers how quickly they became friends and spent every free minute together. He remembers how lost and helpless he felt while Thomas was gone, only feeling like a ghost of who he once was. He remembers trying to move on by dating other people but internally comparing every one of them to Thomas. He remembers meeting Thomas again in the hotel room and not believing him until they sat down together and talked. He remembers how Thomas chose him over and over again over everything else. He remembers how caring Thomas was and how comfortable he felt when he was around him. He remembers how much he loved Thomas ever since he first talked to him. He remembers everything.

“No,” he breathes. “No, I don’t.”

Newt feels Minho staring at him but he doesn’t have it in him to reciprocate the look, he feels like his heart is falling apart more and more by the second every time he thought about how much it hurts to not be with Thomas right now, how much it hurts to maybe never be with him again.

Minho lets go and sits up, patting Newt lightly on the shoulder. “C’mon, let's go out together. You need a distraction.”

He might need a distraction but he doesn’t want one. He wants to stay in bed and drown in self-pity. Though, knowing Minho, the Asian won’t back off until Newt agrees and this is actually Newt’s own fault. They made this agreement shortly after Newt got out of the hospital after the incident, Minho was allowed to drag Newt out of bed whenever the blond wasn’t feeling well mentally to distract him and get him out of his head. There have only been a handful of times where Minho didn’t try to convince him to get out of bed and these were the times where it was really bad, where Newt couldn’t even get up to use the bathroom. Minho apparently thinks that Newt is in a good enough condition to leave the house so the blond only sighs. “Will you accept it if I say no?”

“Nope, I won’t,” the Asian is quick to reply. “Now get up, I’m gonna call the others and we’re going out."

~*~

He finds himself sitting at their go-to karaoke bar with Minho, Fry, and Sonya. Gally wasn’t in town at the moment and well, Teresa can’t attend for obvious reasons. The three keep throwing him concerned glances while Newt only sips on his drink and doesn’t engage in their conversations. He doesn’t understand what he is even doing here, partying with his friends after he just came back to his senses after nearly dying and going through a breakup right afterwards. He should be at home, lying in his bed, sleeping if he is fortunate enough to stop thinking for a minute otherwise staring at his ceiling until his eyes fall shut by themselves.

His friends are trying their best to cheer him up but nothing seems to work. He just wants to be alone, he doesn’t deserve to be here right now. Luckily, Minho doesn’t try to make him sing anything with him, as a matter of fact, none of his friends enter the stage, all of them stay by his side and offer their support in ways that might seem weird to others but mean the world to Newt.

Fry talks to him about some new recipe he tried but blew up in his face – quite literally. The cook doesn’t expect Newt to respond, he just wants to distract Newt even if it’s just for a minute or two and it always somehow works. Fry has a way of talking that makes people want to listen.

Sonya makes him braid her hair, claiming that he can do it better than her which is an absolute lie. Newt is terrible at braiding her hair but Sonya knows that he loves doing it and she always lets him do it even though her hair always ends up looking like a mess, but it makes Newt smile every time.

Minho is just being himself. Teasing him and making jokes about anything and everything around them while telling ridiculous stories about things that happened at work lately.

His friends aren’t doing much, but they’re doing enough and Newt is so incredibly thankful to have them by his side, they always manage to cheer him up somehow. They’re like family to him and he loves them dearly.

Though he isn’t in the mood for any of these things tonight, too exhausted by the events of the day, so he chooses a moment where nobody is saying anything to quietly speak up. “Would you mind if I go home early today? I’m pretty tired.”

“Of course not,” Minho immediately replies and gets up. “I’ll walk you home.”

“No, it’s fine,” he wants to be alone right now, maybe taking a walk through the cold night will free his mind a bit.

“You sure?” Minho asks, concern clear on his face. Newt puts on the most convincing smile he can muster and nods slightly, hoping that Minho will understand.

“Alright,” Minho says slowly, then he pulls Newt into a warm hug. “I’m here for you, man. Take a break for a bit and maybe talk to him tomorrow if you feel up for it, don’t let it end like this.”

’Don’t let it end like this.’ How is Newt supposed to do that when it’s already over? It’s too late to fix it. He might’ve been able to fix it if he had stayed earlier and forced Thomas to talk, but it’s too late for it now. He can’t even go back to Vince’s house to talk to Thomas because he doesn’t know if the brunet is still there and he also can’t remember how to get there since he was half out of his mind when he left.

“Yeah, maybe,” Newt decides to respond, not wanting to give Minho an insight into his thoughts. “Talk to you tomorrow, yeah?”

He quickly hugs Fry and Sonya before he leaves the bar and makes his way home.

His apartment is only a fifteen-minute walk from the bar so Newt decides against calling a taxi, feeling like he needs the walk to clear his head a bit, relishing in the quiet of the night since it’s shortly after midnight and nearly no one is outside anymore. But after only a couple of minutes, he regrets his decision to walk when suddenly the feeling comes back that he thought he’d be rid of forever; he feels like he is being watched. His blood pressure is going up and he walks a bit faster. He doesn’t know if someone is actually watching him or if it's just his paranoia acting up, but he doesn’t want to take any chances. It feels like someone is drilling holes into the back of his head, watching him intensely. After another couple of minutes, he decides to look behind him, making sure that no one is actually watching or even following him.

He wishes he would never have done that.

Only a couple of feet behind him is a person, dressed in dark clothes with a hood covering their head and half of their face. His fight or flight instinct kicks in, leaving him with the option to confront the person or to run away, but confronting doesn’t seem like an option. Maybe the person is just taking the same way as him and isn’t actually following him, so confronting them might seem weird if it’s all just a coincidence. He forces himself to stay calm and keep walking, trying not to think about how much this person reminds him of Ben and the time he was watching and following Newt without the blond’s knowledge.

He takes a different way than he normally would to get home, making sure the person isn’t actually following him. Though when the person keeps following him after Newt walked around the block of his apartment nearly two times already, he knows he has to make a decision.

Fight or flight?

Thanks to Thomas he knows a few self-defense moves but he doubts that he will be able to use any of them against an unknown attacker. If the person only wanted money, they would probably have let off of Newt already instead of following him for nearly twenty minutes, just walking in circles. So flight seems like the best solution, to just run and hope to be faster than the other one until he gets to safety, but where could he go? His apartment is not an option, he doesn’t want this person to know where he lives and the closest bar is the one where his friends probably still are but would he be able to make it there before the other person catches him? He doubts it.

He dares to quickly look behind him to find the other person just being an arm-reach away from him. Feeling like the blood inside his veins turned into ice, he started running, trying to get away from whoever it is that is trying to get to him. But before he even manages to take another step, his arm gets painfully yanked back and he gets harshly pushed against the rough wall of an apartment building. A hand has a strong grip on his throat, restricting his breathing meanwhile the person’s other hand keeps pressing him hard against the wall behind him.

Newt freezes when the street light next to him illuminates the person’s face.

“Hey there, haven’t seen you in quite some time.”

“Back off, Garret,” Newt croaks out. He wants to wipe the menacing grin off of Garret’s disgruntled face. A scar stretches over Garret’s cheek, it hasn’t been there the last time Newt saw him and he can’t help but wonder what happened.

“I want to talk to you,” Garret says, grin still imprinted on his face.

“But I don’t want to talk to you, so back off!” Newt tries to shove him off but Garret’s grip is too strong and the hand on Newt’s throat only squeezes tighter. He wheezes, trying to get more air into his lungs but Garret just presses harder and harder.

I said, I want to talk to you,” he growls.

Newt keeps trying to push Garret off, he manages to push him away enough to lessen the grip on his throat a bit. “I don’t want to talk to you,” he croaks out.

Garret makes a disgruntled noise before he surges forwards and presses his lips harshly against Newt’s. Newt’s eyes go wide, the harder he tries to push his ex away, the stronger the grip on his shoulder and throat gets.

Garret bites Newt’s bottom lip until it starts bleeding, causing tears to well up in Newt’s eyes but the blond refuses to give in. Is now the wrong time to think about starting to go to the gym? Probably, but Newt really needs to gain some more strength.

He thinks about giving up, to just let Garret take what he wants so the whole thing goes by quicker but then the man gets ripped off of him and now it’s Garret who gets pressed against the wall next to Newt with a hand tightly around his throat. Newt breathes in deeply, savoring the feeling of air floating back into his lungs for a few moments, then he looks to the side to see who saved him from the unspeakable.

Newt’s heartbeat speeds up when he realizes who saved him.

It’s Thomas. Of course it’s Thomas. The guy who saved him countless times before once again came to his rescue.

“He told you to back off,” Thomas says in a dangerously low voice, rage burning in his eyes when he stares at Garret.

Garret has the audacity to huff, pressing his hands against Thomas’s chest to get him off. “And who are you to care about that?”

“His boyfriend.”

Newt’s breath hitches. Boyfriend. So Thomas thinks they’re still together? A traitorous spark of hope flares up in Newt and he hates it, he hates it so much but at the same time, he doesn’t. Despite everything, he still wants to be with Thomas.

You are his boyfriend?” Garret asked, looking Thomas up and down in disgust.

Thomas stays awfully calm, everything inside of Newt screams ’threat!’ But not for him, no, for Garret. “Yeah, got a problem with it?”

“I do, actually.” Newt frowns, either Garret is too stupid to see the threat right in front of him or he has a death wish

“Too bad,” Thomas deadpans, then he releases Garret’s throat, swings his fist back, and brings it down against Garret’s face. A loud crack can be heard and Garret cries out in pain. Did- Did Thomas just break Garret’s nose? Newt pales slightly, not because he feels bad for Garret or anything but because he can’t comprehend how powerful Thomas’s punch must’ve been to break a nose. “Are you going to back off now or do you want to repeat the same thing from last time?”

Garret frowns in confusion, staring at the brunet intensely before realization seems to set in. “Wait, you’re- you’re him?”

Newt can only assume that with ‘him’ Garret is referring to the guy who pulled him off of Newt a couple of months ago at the bar, who then apparently beat Garret up until the ambulance arrived.

“Yeah,” Thomas says simply. “Now I advise you to back off.”

Garret complies immediately, holding one hand over the bloody mess his nose turned into while running away, whimpering slightly.

Newt leans against the cold, rough exterior of the wall, staring at Thomas in disbelief. He is here, he saved Newt from Garret, again. Newt was so sure that they were through, that they are never going to talk again, but now Thomas is here, standing in front of him, staring at him with an unreadable expression.

“Are you okay?” the brunet asks in a low voice laced with concern.

Newt only nods, not trusting his voice. He doesn’t know what to say to Thomas, the way they left things lies heavily on his chest. Why is Thomas even here? If he had followed Newt, then he would surely have interfered before Garret even dared to touch Newt. So what was he doing here at this time around Newt’s apartment building?

“Newt, I-” Thomas stops himself, running a hand through his hair and breathing out sharply. “Can we talk? Please?

Newt scans Thomas’s face. He looks troubled, sorrow etched into his features. It wouldn’t be fair to not give Thomas a chance to explain, it would be wrong to reject him after he just saved Newt. It would be wrong to reject him at all, Newt doesn’t have the heart to do it. So he nods, relief settles over Thomas’s face.

“We can talk,” he says, voice rough from the pressure Garret put on his throat just minutes before. “But not here. My apartment is around the corner, we can talk there.”

They walk in silence. Newt isn’t sure what to expect of what is to come. Is Thomas here to actually talk about what went down earlier today or does he want to make a clean cut and break up with Newt? But why would he tell Garret then that he is Newt’s boyfriend? The pieces don’t fit. Luckily, the walk to the apartment doesn’t take more than two minutes so Newt doesn’t have to deal with his thoughts for too long before they sit on the couch in Newt’s living room, both of them avoiding eye contact while drowning in uncomfortable silence.

Newt feels like the silence is crushing him, pushing him down into a dark abyss he never wanted to end up in again, so he speaks up, trying to get through this as quickly as possible. “Why were you there?”

Thomas seems startled by the sudden break of the silence, fidgeting on his spot on the couch before he responds. “I wasn’t following you or anything, I promise. I went on a walk to clear my head then I saw this guy attacking you and I couldn’t just ignore it.”

Newt nods curtly, having no reason to not believe him.

“Are you here to break up with me?” Newt says what has been on his mind ever since Thomas asked him to talk.

“I’m here to work this out with you.”

“You had the chance to do that earlier and you passed up on it,” Newt can’t help the bitterness lying in his voice. If they had worked this out earlier, hours of misery could’ve been prevented.

Thomas sighs, it looks like he wants to grab Newt’s hand for a moment before he decides against it and lets it drop again. “I’m sorry. I- I didn’t know what to say, I have never been good with words. I felt pressured to say something and I was so overwhelmed, everything was just too much and I couldn't deal with it.”

“You could’ve said anything, Thomas,” Newt states. It feels weird to call Thomas by his actual name but calling him Tommy also doesn’t feel right in this situation. “You could’ve told me that you need time to think about it, instead you shot everything I said down and made me feel like I’m not worth it, like you don’t want to be with me. You made me feel like as if I was just a game for you.” He lies his head in his hands, pulling on his hair in frustration. “So if any of these things are the case, please just leave,” his voice breaks and he fights hard to hold tears back. He hates this. He hates a lot, he realizes but he certainly hates this the most.

“I didn’t mean to hurt you,” the brunet responds weakly, voice thick with regret. “I just- I don’t know what to do. I feel like I have to choose between you and The Right Arm and I can’t- I can’t choose.”

“I’m not asking you to choose.”

“Then what are you asking for? Because it sounds like you want me to choose,” Thomas sounds frustrated, but not nearly as agitated as he did during their conversation earlier.

“I want to be with you, to have an actual life with you. I don’t want to worry all day long if you’re going to make it home at the end of the day or not,” Newt chokes out. Talking hurts, Garret had a tight squeeze on his throat. The blond hopes that he won’t have any bruises because he is supposed to go back to work in a couple of days, having a bruise on his throat wouldn’t exactly make a good impression.

Thomas doesn’t hesitate to take his hand this time and hold on gently. Newt slightly turns his head to the side and meets Thomas’s soft gaze. “I will make it home to you every day. I can’t promise that I will never get hurt but I will do whatever it takes to make it back to you at the end of the day. I might not always make the best decisions and I might be reckless at times, but I love you, Newt. You are all the motivation I need to make it back home every day.”

The hope Newt felt betrayed by earlier fills up his whole body. They still have a chance, after all, they can still make this work.

“What am I supposed to do if you get hurt?” he asks quietly, staring at the hand Thomas is holding. Fixing this is not just on Thomas, he realizes, he has to put some work into it as well, so he takes a step in Thomas’s direction again by repositioning his hand in Thomas's and intertwining their fingers, hoping that Thomas understands that he is willing to fight for them.

“I don’t want you to think about that. So far, I only got hurt a handful of times and it has never been anything life-threatening. I promise I will do my best to keep it that way.”

Newt nods slowly. It’s not a lot but it’s better than nothing and he supposes he can work with it. “And what about the times you will have to leave New York?”

“Technology is advanced enough for us to make it work,” Thomas responds, seemingly having a response for anything Newt might bring up. “And I will never leave for more than a week or two at a time before I come back,” he promises.

“You really think we can make it work like that?” Newt asks desperately. He wants this to work, he needs this to work.

“Yeah, I’m sure about it,” Thomas gently lifts Newt’s face with two fingers underneath his chin, initiating eye contact before he speaks up again. “Are you though? Because this can only work if both of us are okay with it.”

Is he sure? He thinks he is, he is almost certain that he is sure but there is still fear lingering in the pit of his stomach. Though he realized in the last few days (as in the days he didn’t spend restrained to a bed, half out of his mind) that sometimes you have to channel your fears to grow because if you keep running away from your fears, you will keep running in the same spot and never get what you actually want.

Thomas’s eyes are filled with fear of rejection and hope, so much hope.

“I don’t want to lie to you, I’m scared but I’m willing to try,” he says slowly, watching the fear leaving Thomas’s eyes. “I want a future with you, Tommy.”

Thomas leans his forehead against Newt's, leaning forward until their lips brush against each other. “It won’t always be easy but it will be worth it. We are going to make this work.”

Newt smiles softly. Yeah, they are going to make it work, they will work through whatever gets in their way, and they will be okay. “I love you,” he whispers against Thomas’s lips.

“I love you,” then Thomas seals their lips in a soft kiss. All the tension in the room suddenly leaves, only leaving space for the love blossoming between them.

~*~

“But, Min,” Newt whines over the phone while unlocking the door of his apartment. “We planned this for a month already and I was really looking forwards to it!”

“Sorry, mate, someone fell sick at work and I have to take their shift,” Minho responds, not even sounding the slightest bit sorry. He and Minho had planned to drive away from the weekend since Thomas is gone for the second weekend in the row and Newt gets bored being alone all the time. Ever since their kind-of-break-up and make-up conversation shortly afterwards two months ago, Newt and Thomas have been going strong and they actually manage to make it work. Thomas got informed that he has to take a job with a newbie somewhere out of town, he couldn’t tell Newt exactly where he was going, he only knew that it would probably take about two weeks. Newt spend the first weekend without Thomas sitting at home and watching old movies since Minho was visiting his family then, so they planned to spend time together this weekend. They just wanted to drive away until they get someplace they like and stay there until Sunday since both of them had to work again on Monday and Thomas would return on Tuesday. But now the Asian canceled which means that Newt has to spend another weekend by himself. Great.

“Don’t they have someone else who can do it?” he pouts while kicking his shoes off in the entrance hall. He accidentally drops his keys and groans in annoyance before bending down to pick them up and drop them on the little table next to the door.

“No, I’m sorry,” his best friend says. “I tried everything to get out of it but it just wouldn’t work.”

“Great, now I have to spend another weekend alone,” Newt complains while taking off his jacket and hanging it up on the hook behind the door.

“I’m really sorry, Newtie, but I’ve gotta go now. I promise I will make up for it!”

“You better do,” Newt grumbles. “Take care, man.”

“You too!”

Newt makes his way towards his living room after hanging up the call while thinking about what to do on the weekend now that Minho canceled on him. He could ask Sonya if she has time to hang out, he hasn’t seen her in quite some time, and hanging out with her is always a lot of fun, or he could convince Fry to come over and beg him to cook dinner since Newt really doesn’t feel like cooking anything.

He stops in his tracks when he enters the living room, his jaw falling slightly open in shock. It takes him a couple of seconds to finally react, rushing forward and falling into the arms of the person who definitely isn’t supposed to be standing in the middle of his living room, smirking at him.

“Oh my god, Tommy!” Newt breathes against Thomas’s neck, burying his head in the crook of his boyfriend's neck and holding on tightly.

“Hey there, gorgeous,” Thomas mumbles in response, pressing Newt flush against him and kissing all over his neck, causing Newt to release a content hum.

“I thought you were supposed to come back on Tuesday?”

“Left the rest of the work for the greenie, I couldn’t stand not seeing you any longer.”

Newt lifts his head from Thomas’s shoulder and scans his face for any new injuries, but there luckily weren’t any, the only thing that changed is that his hair got slightly longer and he is spotting a beard once again, though not nearly as long as the one he had when Newt saw him in the hotel room all this time ago. He can’t stop himself from pressing a soft kiss against Thomas’s lips that quickly grows more passionate with Thomas’s almost immediately trying to gain access to Newt’s mouth which the blond won’t protest against for even a second.

“I missed you so much,” Newt whispers against Thomas’s lips.

“I missed you too,” Thomas is quick to reconnect their lips, seemingly starving and Newt lets him, feeling just as starved for the brunet’s proximity.

Both of them breathe heavily when Thomas gives Newt a break after a couple of minutes.

“You’re lucky that Minho canceled our trip for the weekend,” Newt says, his lips lightly brushing against Thomas’s since neither of them wants to move away any further than they have to.

“Yeah, what a coincident,” Thomas smirks and Newt looks at him in mock shock. This bastard planned it and Minho was in on it.

“You planned this,” Newt says, playfully offended. “Bastard.”

“Maybe, but you love me anyway,” Thomas hums. “Also that means that he won’t come over and walk in on us again like he did last time.”

Newt laughs, blushing slightly in embarrassment when he remembers how Minho accidentally walked in on them once when he came over to visit Newt. “I think he learned from it, after all he started to give us a head up over text before he comes in.”

“That still doesn’t prevent him from walking in on us if you don’t check your phone,” Thomas mused, trying to draw Newt in for another kiss which the blond cheekily blocks. “He definitely won’t walk in on us this time thought,” the assassin purrs, settling on kissing and sucking on Newt’s neck when the blond keeps blocking Thomas from actually kissing him. Sue Newt for wanting to have communication after not seeing his boyfriend in so long, though he guesses he can’t really blame Thomas for not wanting to communicate right now, after all, they still have time for that later. He subconsciously tilts his head to the side to give Thomas's more space which the brunet happily uses.

Newt smirks. “What gives you the impression that we will do anything this weekend?”

Thomas only grumbles at that and grabs Newt’s ass firmly, making Newt squeal when he lifts him up. “This,” he simply says when he starts carrying a laughing Newt towards the bedroom.

Their relationship might not be perfect and it’s far from the norm, but Newt couldn’t care less about it. He is here, with Thomas, the guy he has loved for so long already, the guy he was willing to die for. He knows that he will be okay as long as he got Thomas by his side.

For the first time in his life, Newt is truly happy.

Notes:

Well, that is it, the main story is over. I'm already planning another Newtmas AU and I'm definitely going to write some additional pieces to this one (you will find them in the series this story belongs to), you're not getting rid of me that easily ;)
Don't forget to leave prompts/recommendations/wishes in the comments on what you would like to read in addition to this story, it might take me some time to write everything but I promise I will do my best to make all your wishes come true (uh regarding the story, of course).

I had so many amazing opportunities to kill Newt off in this story and I was always sooo close to do it but decided against it in the end haha, I just couldn't do it.

Now. I'm so thankful for everyone who read this story and all the kudos, bookmarks and especially comments mean the world to me. A huge thanks to Sanctum_Sanctorum, hagaren_site and Scilles, you commented under every single chapter and you were my main motivation to keep writing, I'm so incredibly thankful for you three and I'm going to miss you :(
