Chapter Text
A cold stillness envelopes the space surrounding you. Your eyes open to a blindingly white room blurry people in blue gathering around looking in awe. Suddenly a searing pain stabs through your chest like a hot poking iron. As you are freaking out you notice the skeletal shape of your body and the lack of breath you are able to take. The fluid in your test tube tank drains as you are unceremoniously dumped into a collection bin. Hands begin to grab and prod you while giving you a checkup. Exhaustion and pain are pulling you down making movement feel like walking through mud. Celebrations of excitement murmur within the crowd of humans. All of their words are lost on you. A few things stand out. Hybrid and human are some of them. You hear stable and first as you rest your eyes,
( What happened… Where? ) Your thoughts are cut off as the darkness fades into a numb dreamless sleep.
Eye sockets snap open to what looks like a testing chamber. You are given a series of puzzles to solve. Each move you make is being recorded by cameras and notepads. You are starting to feel self-conscious. To get started, you take a seat and start messing with the items left out on the table. There are a color cube, some worksheets, reading material, and science books. You systematically go through each one starting with the worksheets. After finishing you turn it over to find it blank. Tapping the pencil on the table you stare at the cube. While you try to figure it out your mind starts to wander and you start to sketch out the cube. Maybe your brain thinks it will help to solve the puzzle. Each item is gone through with careful consideration.
You are standing in a room, targets are laid out in front of you. Magic attacks are sent flying toward the center. Projectiles are sent towards you causing you to have to shortcut away. Something on the floor cause you to stumble as an attack is aimed directly at your position. Your mind flashes with the image of violence and you react without thinking. The offending object bounces uselessly on the floor. Gasps from the scientist lead you to look up at the wall of magical bone shields as the simulation stops.
In a room by yourself, you stand wary of what they are going to do to your brother on the other side. Nothing about what the scientists are doing feels safe. At first, they started with simple things touch, food, healing, and thoughts, but since then they have become more aggressive and complicated.
( why can't they just leave us alone? ) it was then a shooting pain that goes through your body. Panic grips your soul as you try to find a way out. ( no no no no what are they doing to him?!! )
In the bitty cafeteria, you stand with your tray. It has been a while since you last interacted with the scientist. They left you to your own devices with lots of stuff to mess with. You are starting to feel uncomfortable. It is the first day you have been taken out of quarantine and made to interact with the others. There is a line to grab your food, the sign saying “seconds are encouraged.” There is a baby blue Bitty in front of you getting his head patted. He leans into the white coat's touch. As the line gets closer to the lunch bar you notice that there are stairs for those who want to climb most prefer to teleport or jump. It was the select few who didn't have those abilities or wanted to use them as training. When you get your food the scientist seemed to not notice you. All of the tables seem to be taken up by type. You feel very nervous. None of them looked right so you go off on your own. You are filled with loneliness.
The steady trickle of foreign magic seeps in, burning hot. With the sharp pierce of the needle still embedded in your soul, your being writhes in agony.
( Make it stop. )
Your body trembles as you step your way into a room with recreational stuff scattered about and on shelves. The last experiment left you feeling sick. Now they want you to interact with people, why? Everything hurts and they just want to get data.
( What did they put in me? ) Each time, you were sent out to interact after an alteration. You know they are watching and looking for something.
( What do you want? Just leave me alone! ) Then after all of the testing, you are sent back to your quarters as the foreign magics’ side effects work their way into you. Sweat drenches your bones while your internal temperature heats up. Personality and physical shifts occur. You start to cuss more, your teeth appear sharper, you feel energetic and motivated, and the list goes on.
*Implied Fluff and Stuff Warning Between the Lines*
Your body is feeling awful. The flashes of the last experiment permanently burn a spot in your memory. The tar-like magic feels all-consuming full of hate and malice. It felt like hot metal being poured over you. Today is definitely a strange day. Your face had a permanent glow and everyone around you made you feel uncomfortable. Strange thoughts seemed to intrude on your normal day. And you think you have a fever. Do monsters even get fevers or are you different? They have said you are part human so maybe there is truth to that. Your magic is telling you to sleep in while also being all over the place. It is unpleasant. By the time you are sent to your room, you try playing games, drawing, and even reading to distract you from your mind but nothing is working.
( Why is it so hot? ) As soon as the lights went out you take off as much as you can to cool off. It is then that you notice a glow. ( No why? This is not how I want to spend the night. Go away heat. )
Something coming from your magic sprouts out of you and holds you down. It feels slimy like vines covered in vaseline. Struggling to break feel, your magic seems unresponsive. You do not want it to do anything to you… your brain on the other hand.
( You know it will feel nice. It will be fun. ) All of your body goes stiff as you notice the glow of your magic coming from a drippy tendril.
( No what is this where did it come from? ) Fear swallows your mind as it travels up to your rib cage leaving a slimy residue on your bones. Shudders travel up your spine as the glow brightens and your soul is removed by the new appendages. You can’t help but stare at the strangeness of your soul. It is red and white with swirls of strange magic. It doesn’t look like a monster or a human soul definitely not what you were expecting. Magic collects down to your pelvis and other sensitive areas. Waves of anticipation reverberate throughout your body. One tentacle plays down lower and the other caresses your soul.
Papyrus stands in a room watching the thing in front of him. He hasn’t moved from his spot. A clattering of trembling bones echoes within the chamber. His brother was on a screen sitting in a chair while the scientist dripped some substance into him. It looks like some kind of human soul energy. Papyrus feels the burning creep up his arm. Sans thrashes around as best he can while being tied down to a chair to prevent him from hurting himself. Papyrus found himself on the floor curled up in the fetal position after the pain hit…
Some Bittys are fighting in the cafeteria. A fell is yelling at one of the other Bittys as an encounter ensues many others watch, some get help, and others want to break it up. A stray magic attack hits the ceiling. Before anyone can react a fixture on the ceiling falls crushing a Bitty. Everyone stops. The scientists rush to save and mitigate what they can. Papyrus screams for his brother after being taken away from the scene.
In the dark of his room, Papyrus stays curled up in a ball. He still doesn't feel the shattering of his brother's soul. The pain of his brother falling to pieces settles in his bones.
( IS HE STILL ALIVE? WHY CAN’T I… HIS SOUL DIDN’T BREAK. WHY CAN’T I REACH HIM? ) Like a cruel twist of fate, his mind kept replaying the memory continuously, and no matter how much they try to connect with him he can not reach them.
